Jeff...I'm glad you are still doing these travels. I stayed in the Blue Swallow many times when Lillian was still operating it. Her garages back then had doors on them so you could really put your cars 'to bed'. I believe I paid $13. & something per night. I got to know Lillian and she remembered me from year to year. I'd drive Route 66 just like you (are) and used a '77 Grande Lemans, a '69 Caprice 2dr HT and a '63 Corvette Roadster at differrent times. I'd always take my time looking for parts for my cars, liscence plates and cool souvenirs. My ultimate goal was Hollywood where I'd stand in line all day to be part of the studio audience for Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin and others TV shows. I attended car show & cruises and, of course, swap meets and auto-wreckers. I've done 9 'long-haul' Hot Rod Magazine PWR Tours from 1999 to 2008. Angel cut my hair at his barber shop many years ago. Your trips fuel my desire to get back 'on the road' which is now difficult due to my age, health, family commitments and Covid. Thank you for what the do...I most certainly enjoy your efforts. Paul.
Thanks so much @justpassinthruonR66 !! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. I can't believe we're almost halfway thru!! How awesome is it that you got the stay there while Lillian was still around?!? And she remembered you!! I've been the host of the Hot Rod Power Tour since 2015 - it would be awesome for you to come out and cruise with us this year. Thanks again Paul - I'm looking forward to seeing you out on the road again!!
Jeff...I would love to cruise with you this year but due to 2 replaced hips 6 &7 years ago, I sold all my collector cars due to difficulty with the clutch and getting in/out. However, I still have a '07 Mustang GT convertible, mint and automatic of course. I would love to bring some of my old Hot Rod decals and stuff I've collected over the years. I could also show you photos of our old '55 150 wagon that Dad bought new (with 265, and 3spd columnm shift). I'm sure Hot Rod magazine has all my old entries, mostly I used a blue '69 Caprice, then a '77 white Grande Lemans, a red '63 Corvette Roadster, and finally a '61 blue Corvette that I bought out in Coos-Bay, Oregon and jioned the Tour in Little Rock, Arkansas, finishing in Madison, WI and driving it home across the border to Oshawa, ON. Canada. I am open to joining the '24 Hot Rod Magazine Pwr tour just because of our connection...I've written you previously. Treasure your Father...I loved the vids when you included him. I lost my Dad 3 yrs ago, but, he did 'good'... he made it to 91, still lived in his own home up until a month before going into hospital AND was still driving! I'm still at the address I was at when I did all those Pwr Tours. I'm also in contact with a few of my old Pwr tour buddies and would love to see them again. Paul.
Very cool@@justpassinthruonR66 you had quite the collection of hot rods!! I hope you can make it for this years Hot Rod Power Tour. My Pop & I are planning to drive up to Montana to visit the Charlie Russell museum. So I'm hoping for good weather
Your little '55 is a real trooper, dirt roads, gravel, and all! Loved the roadrunner! When we were on Route 66, I couldn't get over all the abandoned cars in fields, parking lots, everywhere! Would love to have brought some of them home! The Blue Swallow was💙!
Thanks @UkuleleBetty!! The 55 is a running machine!! We had an incident in AZ but it's all taken care of so stay tuned. The Blue Swallow is one of my favorites and the new owners really take pride in keeping it up!!
Looks like it crosses I40 & runs to the Russel cafe truck stop. What a nose you have for finding / exploring the forgotten parts of America & our history. Thanks 🙏 again Jeff & happy new year 🎊 🥳
You're welcome @garygentzel7924 !! Thank YOU for coming along for the ride with me again!! It's pretty amazing out there in the middle of nowhere right?!?
We drove the dirt road from San Jon to Glenrio after 3 days of rain. The middle section was mud! Best memory of Tucumcari was lunch at Del's Resturant. good food, great service.
The Blue Swallow is amazing @johnserou6466 and the new owners take pride in maintaining it to the fullest. All the neon is lit at night - it's awesome!! Happy new year to you too - Thank you!!
The cracked tiles are like scratches on the 55', it adds character (-; I stayed many times at the Pow Wow Inn just as you're leaving town on the west side.
Thanks again! Do you remember seeing a Motel somewhere on Route 66 in Arizona where it looked almost abandoned but there were a bunch of Datsun 240z in the parking lot? My son and I pulled in there and it looked like someone was living there but we couldn't see anybody.
You're welcome @jmark7390 !! I dont remember that, but my Route 66 Arizona videos are coming up in a few weeks so I'll be sure to watch for an abandoned motel with some Datsun's in the parking lot.
The old first section of Route 66 in New Mexico was on the History Channel@@michaelgorman4229 ? I just saw Two Guns on "Mysteries of the Abandoned" a few months ago but I've never seen this...
@@jeffthistedI'm sorry, I should have led with that! Excellent video! I like your work and I Subscribed. I would recommend NM 104 from Tucumcari to Las Vegas, NM. and I-25 Scenery!
Kind of a sad comment on our times that a dispensary can be built new from the ground up, and be successful. Then the traditional businesses vanished decades ago, their buildings left in ruins. Is old dirt 66 still closed thru San Jon?....
Thank you so much@@mmahtnart8986!! If you like what you saw would you do me a favor? Gimme a like & subscribe to my UA-cam channel if you haven't already. I'd appreciate it.

The chenille bedspread at the Blue Swallow was divine!
Those motels that have a place to park your car inside are so cool!! Safe travels Jeff.
Thanks @keeb381 I think so too!! And when I look thru my window I've got the best view in the house right?!?

nice postcard, its all great
Thanks @michaeldrevdahl2292
What do you mean "nice postcard"?
NM 104 from Tucumcari to Las Vegas, NM. Where Rawhide was filmed 1960s. The scenery is nothing like I-40s. Close to landscapes!
Thanks for the comment @meandean222
Are you a fan of Rawhide?
Where was the motel / cafê? I love seeing all the abandoned buildings even though it’s kinda melancholy to see Americana gone by & somewhat forgotten
Which motel / cafe are you referring to @garygentzel7924 ??
@@jeffthisted I found the trading post in Glenrio - wish I’d taken that exit & ran 66 more But didn’t really have the time

It really is a sad commentary right @milojanis4901 ?!? Yeah it’s been closed since last April or May I think because of the washout.
need yo read the rest of the story that that cars been parked there these many years...
Sorry @kttexas34 I dont understand your comment.
