I 👏 want 👏 a slice 👏 of that 👏 mythology!! 👏 I know so much about Greek, Norse, and Egyptian mythology, and I draw a lot of it. But I want to know more of these lesser taught myths!!
According to the "DC Nation Presents DC Future State" promotional magazine thing that I found online, (if you want a copy just say so and we'll figure it out) Superman of Metropolis happens in 2030 and Superman Wonder Woman happens in 2070, so yeah, Jon is hopefully a bit more mature. Both are looking really spry for being almost 60 years old? guess not being kryptonian enough still comes with some perks, just as being a demi goddess or something.
I started to get into comics and then New 52 happened. I was started to get into them again with Rebirth and now there's Future state and the Omniverse. Can DC please just stop completely rewriting canon on an editorial mandate everytime I started legit getting invested in the comics again? Lol
This seems like the same trick their doing with the Batman books where you have to guess that 1 of them is happening before the other. This is the whole problem with the omni verse that you were commenting on earlier. The reader has to do all the heavy lifting to try to make it make sense and then the community creates a consensus for the publisher. I call Shenanigans on this. .
@Will N True. I feel like this whole non-consistent personality of adult Jon is like a further extension of the problem Bendis created by aging him up for no reason and not clearly defining him as adult once he did so.
I hope that they smooth out these books. It would be nice if DC can allow for legacy characters to take over, people grow up and grow old, but if it is a mess then no one will want it.
A Legacy character did take over. But then DC brought his mentor back after 20+ year, erased him from existence, brought him back, made him an accidental villain, then made him evil here in future state.
Yara Flor is the best thing to come out of Future State IMO. Please get a Brazilian mythological consultant publicly on this project so it’s understood any deviations are a creative choice & not done out of ignorance. 😩
This event feels like a mix of DC One Million and DC Tangent. The story is "alternate versions of the future" and while some stories seem to mix well, others are just there. In One Million there was a through line for a story, though most of the issues didn't really follow it. In Tangent there was no through line, but they more often did feel to be happening at the same time.
Jon reminds me a bit of Jacen Solo from the old EU StarWars books. Had a Jedi Academy series where he was a silly kid always cracking jokes. Then they fast forward to the Vong saga and he’s more of a grumpy emo kid. Eventually, he turns into a villain. So, my prediction is that Jon goes villain at some point... not for any real reason, just because I see parallels to a different character in a different (now defunct) universe. Also, can we talk about how weird he looks in that diner scene? He looks enormous and really weird. Maybe that’s what WW is talking about. “You don’t look so good... you keep changing shape.”
Great, another Superboy that replaced a previous, won the fans over, then went evil when DC brought in some timey-wimey-new-universe nonsense. (Referring to Chris Kent, not Conner.)
I like the new wonder woman though I was initially skeptical. Conversely, while I really wanted to like Jon Kent as Superman they just haven't given me anything to care about regarding him. So far it feels like the header needed a firmer hand guiding it, maybe with slightly different headers for different groupings of comics.
That may be the best explanation of why continuity and cannon are important. You can tell perfectly fine stories without it, but the stakes are different. Imma think about that for a bit.
I like future state honestly. I like to see it as "here's a new character/new version of a character and a few of their stories as a hero". Kinda like an anthology or an annual. My favorite future state books are those that use this kind of tone and don't try to take themselves too seriously. I overall like this comic too but mainly for Yara and her mythology. Although I've heard that the Portuguese used in this book is very bad and needed more research done which is disappointing.
It took the entire week, but I have finally watched through ALL THE VIDEOS on the channel and I do have some suggestions for possible non-future state videos; Man Bat, Dawnbreaker and 52!
marvel always plays loose with mythology for example i couldnt stand reading moon knight 2018 for it. also i guess i need have a tangent but they break egyptian mytholgy ok but also what is changed doesnt work with koshnu in comics. like ı understand you wanna force moon knight and ra to fight but if you cant work with it just change ra with aten.
I only have one title on my DC pull list (Catwoman), so for me, Future State is just an odd diversion from the main story for a couple of months, similar to the type of books DC used to put out in September to mark the anniversary of the New 52.
A) Thank you for providing this information. Entertaining as always. 🙂 B) The needles of both of my "interest in these versions to real characters" and the "percentage chance the 'Omniverse' concept will turn out to be a good idea" dials continue to be resting comfortably on the 'zero' peg.
So far the standout is Amazonian Wonder Woman. Jon is supposed to be a bit thin as per his earlier FS issue but in the diner he looks like the time his dad got overcharged after his resurrection. Maybe that was the visual clue, inconsistent rendering? I am looking forward to Retro State myself.
"you are the old sun,..." Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!! YOU are on FIRE!!!!!,.....you know what i mean. OH, I am all for the "Retro State Event" brewing!!!! PEACE dear sister, and God bless.
I was done with "Death Metal" before it was over, and going into Future State I had a very strong, "meh" feeling. Then I found out they were stopping print on all their regular issues and EVERYTHING was going to be Future State.... Damn DC. I just want "regular" superhero stories again. "Endless Winter" was the best thing they wrote during all of this and I wouldn't have minded if they had extended that story out a little. "Wonder Woman" wasn't bad, I'm curious for "The Immortal Wonder Woman." When I picked up "Superman / Wonder Woman" and got to the "Hello Metropolis!" page I was like, "wait...what? Is this after he let the city out of the bottle?" I'll keep getting the Wonder Woman issues. I missed Swamp Thing (my comic store didn't order a lot of the Future State because there wasn't a lot of hype for it where I am). I'll probably pick up Kara "Zor-El Superwoman," but when I was flipping through it, it didn't look like the same person from "Superman of Metropolis." I think DC is trying too hard to be clever and it's just coming off as having a mediocre idea dragged out.
I was eating right when you inserted that joke about Retro State. Luckily I didn't choke but now I am wondering about how that might look. So would it be taking the Future State heroes and redrawing them in different comic ages? Do they end up in the stories dealing with the possible problems of the time but in the same comic logic of the same age?
Just to clarify. At first there was a book called "Solaris". Also thought provoking. I highly recommend it and other Stanisław Lem's books aswell if you're in to retro sci-fi. Great content Sasha.
First and foremost - BEST wig ever. Love it. I could care less about Future State. Altering existing characters can't make up for poor writing. If they want new characters, they need to make new characters. Stop slapping lipstick on a pig. (That means, giving a bad character a good name.) Giving her the name of Wonder Woman doesn't make her character amazing, nor does slapping the title of Superman on someone who isn't all that super to read about. I invite you all to the TKO (The Kindred Omniverse) - I have two books. The first is called Kindred Lives and details the adventures of Jason Todd as he lives several different lives and gains power along the way, becoming my own original character named Kindred. The second book is a prequel to the first called Beyond Her and explains where Kindred comes from and why he is so powerful. You can find links to both books on facebook by searching for the book titles. Kindred Lives & Beyond Her
I want to point out that the expression "Baixar a bola" was not well used This expression is like "hold your horses", but it used to say "lower your ego" So when Yara screamed this to the other guy it didn't fit at all, especially when the verb tense wasn't correct ("Baixa a bola")
I think it's possible that Yara (re)learned Portuguese as an adult, so may not be entirely fluent in it. Even though the real reason is probably the writers not speaking the language!
Yikes! I came back to this video to look through the comments, and UA-cam served up a mid-video frame of Sasha apparently flipping the bird and looking like she's about to start a fight with me. Eek!
Ah! You explained the problem I also see with the omniverse. Canon doesn't matter - uh... ok. Timeline doesn't matter - uh... ok. Costume doesn't matter - uh... ok. Characterization does not have to be consistent? Hmmm. If anything goes, it seems to me that means you can have characterization that varies - just not within the same book, I guess? I agree - that lowers stakes. Take the 1950's Superman TV show - the stakes were supposedly low (gangsters, corrupt bankers, thieves instead of the Source Wall, Solaris and galactic threats) but the stakes actually seemed higher because we felt we knew Jimmy, Lois, Perry and Clark.
I have a theory, that Jon in this instalment is clone/shapeshifter. This explains why he looks different on every panel (he just can't remember how exactly Jon looks like and supplements from original Superman) and why his character is completely different (he just is a different person). This is why Yara is telling him that he doesn't look good.
I believe that sense Future State is practically just starting, it still has time to improve and we’ll just have to see where it goes along with some hits and misses 😁
Madame, HOOOOWWWW are you not writing and producing your own comic book universe. Your insight into what makes absolutely and charachters work is just outstanding💛👊🙌🌟
Future State is like a dress up montage. The publisher asking the reader to choose what they like and don't like and then dress accordingly. A good example is after the death of Superman where they introduce four new Supermen or character pitches for when Clark comes back. Secondly to me bringing mythology into DC comics as of after Death Metal doesn't really make sense. They literally fought one of the beings that created existence, they have a name "the hands". So any other mythological being can be explained as being a existing in some extra dimension whatever, by which people can figure out how to get there and go and punch it. Or it being some alien or creation of one. There is very little mystery left in the DC Universe.
The art did not do Jon any favors but what's important is that Yora still looked good. According to the timeline guide, Superman of Metropolis takes place in 2030, Wonder Woman solo run is 2050 and this book is in the year 2070 (- ^ )
I like the idea of mixing and having alternate version of pantheons. I have an idea of a story with that as the main plot point. What if the gods punish their unkillable divine enemies by stripping them of their memories, symbol of power and title.by losing their titles and identity you take away their divinity leaving them quasi-mortals. They are forced to reincarnate and slowly remember who they are thus awakening their abilities. Once they reach a certain point and return to their villainous ways they are to be executed. This continues until they are forgotten and fail to reform. The system preaches forgiveness and redemption, but in the end the only end its death. Ps. Thw main character is a mentally unstable, Slightly yandere, Loki who became the trickster he is because the feeds on the attention of the strong. this leads him to do the worst things because the easiest way to get attention was to demand it. Once he focuses on you he will seek validation, but when that fails he resorts to petty tricks......like sleeping with your childhood friend while disguised as the partner. This leads to him being outed and being sent to a correction facility housing the former gods . Will he seek redemption or will he find the attention he wants by joining the titan lord and his schemes.
Ahh, Now it's Jon's turn to be shipped with a Wonder Woman. A family tradition.

Also "Ah, Baixar a bola"
I 👏 want 👏 a slice 👏 of that 👏 mythology!! 👏 I know so much about Greek, Norse, and Egyptian mythology, and I draw a lot of it. But I want to know more of these lesser taught myths!!
I’m excited to see this Future Team Up
According to the "DC Nation Presents DC Future State" promotional magazine thing that I found online, (if you want a copy just say so and we'll figure it out) Superman of Metropolis happens in 2030 and Superman Wonder Woman happens in 2070, so yeah, Jon is hopefully a bit more mature. Both are looking really spry for being almost 60 years old? guess not being kryptonian enough still comes with some perks, just as being a demi goddess or something.
Hair & outfit love! 💕 thanks for mentioning artists & writers consistently in your videos. 2 suns...Tatooine???
I started to get into comics and then New 52 happened. I was started to get into them again with Rebirth and now there's Future state and the Omniverse. Can DC please just stop completely rewriting canon on an editorial mandate everytime I started legit getting invested in the comics again? Lol
Wow, did you have any psych classes? Your character breakdown was flawless.
This seems like the same trick their doing with the Batman books where you have to guess that 1 of them is happening before the other. This is the whole problem with the omni verse that you were commenting on earlier. The reader has to do all the heavy lifting to try to make it make sense and then the community creates a consensus for the publisher. I call Shenanigans on this. .
I much preferred the solo Wonder Woman book to this, Justice League, and the Superman of Metropolis, but this was just kinda fine imo.
@Will N True. I feel like this whole non-consistent personality of adult Jon is like a further extension of the problem Bendis created by aging him up for no reason and not clearly defining him as adult once he did so.
Should be depicted without flaws my ass. I'm brazillian too, and guess what? We aren't perfect. Yara's got some personality, keep her that way.
"You can't just say things like that to me! I'll think about them!"
Me too, Sasha. Me too.
Feels like Jon is going to have an eventual Wally West placement issue in the world.
@@AustynSN You mean Wally? Yes, and I'm sad about that because Wally was my Flash.

"It's Wednesday."
~The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen (Terry Gilliam)
Neil Gaiman got interested in The Norse Mythology via reading Thor comics as a kid, his book on the stories of the Norse a God's is awesome
fun fact: the guarana soda uses guarana berry (obviously) and that berry usually contain four to six times more caffeine than coffee beans
Yara Flor is the best thing to come out of Future State IMO. Please get a Brazilian mythological consultant publicly on this project so it’s understood any deviations are a creative choice & not done out of ignorance. 😩
My take on Future State so far?
"Save me omnibus, you're my only hope."
The bouncing around is not fun, and my wallet says no.
You cracked me up whenever you got salty in this video! 😂😂
"You can't just say things like that to me, I'll think about them."
Oh man, that got me laughing for a while!😂
I’ll drink to how Yara, give me that Sugar cane juice. 🥃
I enjoyed this story and getting into it.
I wanna see that server age comic you measured in the intro
I like the new wonder woman though I was initially skeptical. Conversely, while I really wanted to like Jon Kent as Superman they just haven't given me anything to care about regarding him. So far it feels like the header needed a firmer hand guiding it, maybe with slightly different headers for different groupings of comics.
Also, the purples on Sasha are killer this issue. Kudos to whoever colored this one.
We were robbed in that we only got one instance of the Solaris distorted voice this video
I thot the title read "planet fitness"😂
The quip regarding the "Solaris" films made me chuckle with delight.
Is Jon’s plan to be so evil it makes Damian good into the future?
That may be the best explanation of why continuity and cannon are important. You can tell perfectly fine stories without it, but the stakes are different. Imma think about that for a bit.
That wig is cute af though~
Sasha Wooo, you look like Raven from the Teen Titans with that hair!
The return of Solaris feels significant and glossed over all at the same time.
Whoever does your hair Sasha does an awesome job.
It took the entire week, but I have finally watched through ALL THE VIDEOS on the channel and I do have some suggestions for possible non-future state videos; Man Bat, Dawnbreaker and 52!
"it must be a Tuesday"
Ba dum tssss. Somebody had to do it.
At least it's "one issue, one story" this time. The multiple stories issues get exhausting. Except the Green Lanterns one. That I actually enjoyed.
marvel always plays loose with mythology for example i couldnt stand reading moon knight 2018 for it. also i guess i need have a tangent but they break egyptian mytholgy ok but also what is changed doesnt work with koshnu in comics. like ı understand you wanna force moon knight and ra to fight but if you cant work with it just change ra with aten.
I only have one title on my DC pull list (Catwoman), so for me, Future State is just an odd diversion from the main story for a couple of months, similar to the type of books DC used to put out in September to mark the anniversary of the New 52.
A) Thank you for providing this information. Entertaining as always. 🙂
B) The needles of both of my "interest in these versions to real characters" and the "percentage chance the 'Omniverse' concept will turn out to be a good idea" dials continue to be resting comfortably on the 'zero' peg.
4:58 ahh that is one of the best and most glorious Odin and son's moment! "For Asgard! For Midgard! For Myself!" Ahh family!
I’m so glad they were finally getting a new generation of superheroes!
teen titans, young justice and super sons: are we a joke to you?
Bleeding Cool actually has a timeline of most of the future state books. It’s a lot.
I kinda like this Jon more than the one in his own book 😂 the one that says goodmorning in the clouds and smiles
Also Jon looks like adult Superman here, and a teenager(19 or 20) in his own book 😂
And what’s the cape/no cape thing between the two books two
I was done with "Death Metal" before it was over, and going into Future State I had a very strong, "meh" feeling.
I'll probably pick up Kara "Zor-El Superwoman," but when I was flipping through it, it didn't look like the same person from "Superman of Metropolis."
I think DC is trying too hard to be clever and it's just coming off as having a mediocre idea dragged out.
Surprised by the lack of people familiar with Two Sun Tuesday.
Just to clarify. At first there was a book called "Solaris". Also thought provoking. I highly recommend it and other Stanisław Lem's books aswell if you're in to retro sci-fi. Great content Sasha.
‘SO THOSE WERE A LOT OF THOUGHTS’ 😂 yes. Yes they were😑
Future State seems like a painful mess that I'm glad I'm not spending money one.
Meanwhile, Sasha's wig game is on point.
Kindred Lives & Beyond Her
Off topic but anyone else think this is the coolest hairstyle she's had for the future state videos?
I want to point out that the expression "Baixar a bola" was not well used
This expression is like "hold your horses", but it used to say "lower your ego"
So when Yara screamed this to the other guy it didn't fit at all, especially when the verb tense wasn't correct ("Baixa a bola")
I think it's possible that Yara (re)learned Portuguese as an adult, so may not be entirely fluent in it. Even though the real reason is probably the writers not speaking the language!
Super Man's costume is different, this one has a cape.
Is his other costume at the cleaners?
@8:14 Love you 3000 for the reference, Sasha :)
hands down this is the best review !! Ive need recaps with some opinion but you, my dear. You are a scholar !
I don't care how Yara Flor is depicted. I'm just glad we have a new version of Wonder Woman. Nice video Sasha.
Seeing these characters makes me miss the originals so damn much
I'm here for the wonder woman stuff, but that's not unusual for me as she's why I read most of the DC stuff.
The art did not do Jon any favors but what's important is that Yora still looked good.
According to the timeline guide, Superman of Metropolis takes place in 2030, Wonder Woman solo run is 2050 and this book is in the year 2070 (- ^ )
Does that mean Jon doesn’t age?
@@koyinproductions9053 He does but very slowly due to being half Kryptonian
@@Iwillone I just realised something, when does the justice league future state book take place?
@@koyinproductions9053 2040
@@Iwillone If Yara was working in the justice league in 2040, but said she said she didn’t want to be a member in 2070..🤯
I'm ALWASY curious to see whats your next wig gonna be like!! Amazing video.
We have heard of various 'States" I say "What the State?!?!?!?" ;-)
The Future
I loved the vocal effects for Solaris!
Is Yara's outfit a reference to some of Wonder Woman's possible gear and color scheme from Injustice 2 or is it just a coincidence?
