Google is the reason why so many reactors think Angelina is 7 years old for this. She was 9 years 2 months old. Angelina is a music prodigy unlike any other. She is the Mozart of vocals. NOBODY forces or tells Angelina to do anything. Just the opposite is true, her family has done so well to keep her career in check, holding her back. Angelina has always chosen to sing songs which are highly emotional because she is drawn to them. Born with the most soulful voice of my lifetime so the emotional songs fit her very well. Angelina is the ONLY vocalist to ever make me cry. Emotion from the universe is far greater than from life experiences on Earth. Angelina is a once in forever musical artist. There is NO other you can compare her to so all the old arguments about child vocalists fly out the window.
Angelina has always been the one who wishes to sing. Her family have kept her on the ground, priority childhood and school first. Her grandma, Mery Zamani, a famous painter and a prodigy herself must have heard her talent very early and supported her wisely.
Great reaction. Thanks for taking the time to listen to this awesome young artist. To answer a few of your observations... Angelina selects and arranges all of the music she sings, as well as deciding where, and for what events she performs. There are many videos of her out there where she is interacting with the musicians and letting them know exactly how she wants the song arranged. Even in this video at 9 years old, the paper she hands to the band director at the beginning were her notes about changes in the arrangement. Her grandmother got her interested in jazz at the age of 3 by introducing her to Billie Holiday. Since then, and for the next 12 years, she has been listening to and studying the jazz greats such as Billie Holiday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Screamin Jay Hawkins, Dina Washington and many others. Her timing, style, and inflections come naturally to her since she has immersed herself in the genre for years. She won Norway's got Talent at the age of 8 singing Jazz classics such as Summertime, Bang Bang, Gloomy Sunday, and I'm a Fool to Want You. Between the ages of 8 and 15 she has sung all over the world from small charity events to Quincy Jones' 85th birthday celebration at London's O2 stadium (by invitation of Quincy). She has a catalog of over 140 videos including 5 original songs, 3 that she was the original artist on, and 95 unique other unique covers. With her new music she is releasing with Republic Records she has begun to carve out her own style of Jazz that is purely hers. I would encourage you to continue your journey of discovery with this amazing young artist.
Well, if you want to know if she had damaged her voice, you should check her last cover of Adele song « All I Want » 4 days ago at 15 or any of her 132 covers and 6 originals between 7 and 14...You will better understand her extraordinary vocal abilities. I only hope that you will do more reaction and analysis of Angelina because they are really on point about young kids but if you read about AJ life you will see that those warning comments does not apply to her.
If you listen to original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version. you'll see she knew exactly what she was doing. By the way, she's never sung this song the same way again. Angelina is a phenomenon. She's been in charge of her music since the beginning. The band referred to her as 'The Boss'. If you are familiar with her Bohemian Rhapsody performance you should know that her voice has been perfectly protected. It's a good rant, but totally inapplicable to Angelina. . She's 9 here, by the way, not 7.
Good comment. Listening to Screamin' Jay would answer his question. But I don't think hardcharge reads his comments. Or perhaps he's just too cool to respond or acknowledge with a like.
Absolutely no exploitation. She is 9 here. She started begging her parents to let her go on Norway's got Talent at 3. They wouldn't let her and she was, obviously too young. She finally got her wish at 7 and won at 8. In her pre-performance interview she told the interviewer she was going to be a superstar. And she is. She is indeed a 'vunderkid'.
@Gus Erland She obviously enjoys singing this song and I'm pretty sure she understands every meaning. And there are no overt sexual meanings. A nine yr. old wunderkind understands what "I love you, I love you...." means, etc. etc. You would want a prodigy like this to sing "I had a little lamb..."?
@Gus Erland Angelina is not exploited - she has been the driving force as to what she sings and how she sings - she almost always controls the arrangements and has written several original songs. Her parents care so much that they have actually held Angelina back somewhat so that she has a normal childhood and schooling - They turned down many offers (including Simon Cowel and Disney) to sign her to a studio and finally allowed her to sign with Republic Records with a trusted producing group Stargate, and has released several performances on that label - Due to Covid restrictions this past year an album and more concert appearances have been delayed.
Is she “the Mozart of Jazz singing”. To answer your question, yes. She started singing at the age of one and a half years old. No one in her family is a singer, although her grandmother listened to lot of the jazz standards. She was 9 years old in this performance. She did perform this song several other times and yes she toned it down. Angelina Jordan performs the songs the way she thinks they should sound. It is 100% her. She entered Norway Got Talent at the age of 7 and proceeded to win the finals where she received 46% of the votes while the remaining 9 finalists combined received 54%. She was flooded with offers from major music labels as well as Disney. They were all turned down until late last year when she signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. It was important to her and her family to have a normal childhood and to have the space to explore her artistic creativity. Angelina singing is as real as they come. Thank you for your reaction from a new subscriber.
@@lavender_granny @Lezlie R Her grandmother is not a singer. She was a child prodigy in her own rights as a poet and a painter. Today many of her painting hang in museums, palaces, and art galleries. The Emperor of Japan has one of her paintings. Here is a video showcasing some of her paintings. The lady at the beginning of the video is not Mery Zamani (Angelina's grandmother). If I'm not mistaken, she is her sister. You can see young Angelina standing at the doorway early in the video before she runs inside. I hope you enjoy watching this video. ua-cam.com/video/i9NxX0tSjS0/v-deo.html
@@davidtouma4878 well thank you for that. That’s what I get for reading/believing other people’s comments. I’ll be sure to keep my mouth shut next time
@@lavender_granny please don't. I wasn't criticizing you. I just wanted to highlight her accomplishments and give her credit where it is due. I've been following Angelina's progress since she was seven years old. I too have made some comments in the past that I later found out that they were inaccurate.
Her family has let her have a childhood. They demanded it and kept her grounded. They’ve managed her talent in the best way I’ve ever seen parents do for such a gifted child. She made all the choices. She made the arrangement and emulated Screamin Jay Hawkins. This is the only time she was allowed to go full growl. Every other recording of her singing this is much different. This performance is phenomenal and one would argue better than the 1956 original.
Angelina chooses the songs she sings. She makes the song her own but stays true to the original artist. You can see at the beginning of the video that she makes changes to the arrangement on the music sheet to the smiles of the director. Screamin Jay Hawkins is on the candle. She chose to perform it in black and white as the original by Jay Hawkins ( her request ). She started singing jazz as you will see when she won Norway's Got Talent in 2014 singing songs by Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. She won the competition at 8 years old singing " summertime ".
Angelina is very well protected by her family. Her uncle Michael Astar is her manager. They turned down several record deal offers in the past (Disney among them) until they signed with Republic Records when she was 14 years old.
Her parents try very hard to keep her from being exploited; they wanted to be sure she experienced a normal childhood. But she loves to sing and a recording studio is her playground. Nobody understands how she is able to empathize with someone 40 years older but she does so consistently.
Angelina has been the boss of what she wants to sing since she was a toddler. She picked "Gloomy Sunday" to audition at Norway's Got Talent. What other 7-year-old would do that, but one that's listened to jazz since she was 1-1/2? Thanks for your reaction. So interesting.
This is Angelina at 9 doing what SHE wants to do. No pressure. Check out Norway's Got Talent when she was 7/8. Two Billie Holiday covers, Bang Bang, and a superlative "Summertime ". Feeling Good at 10, Every Time We Say Goodbye at 11. Her originals at 11/12 and now at 14/15. More covers, I'd Rather Go Blind is Etta good. The list goes on, Stay, A Million Years Ago, Born to Die. Hope you continue with this amazing talent.
We told you this one was going to blow you away ;) Pretty much anything and everything you see from Angelina Jordan is going to impress you ...and in different ways every time. This is a singer that could be (and will be) studied for years to come. This is a high level artist at work. I see some comments about, she couldn't understand the meaning of this, or it is not suitable.... that is missing the point. Angelina interprets the songs she sings with her very own meaning. It certainly means something deep to her, or she would not be able to emote it as naturally as she does. You can't fake what this kid is doing here. This is coming from deep within her soul. Those that understand music, and understand art have an immediate appreciation for what they are witnessing from Angelina. She's as real as it gets. Just as you said... there is only one kid that sings like this.... this one. I hope to see you explore her more, because there is much more to discover with Angelina.
WOW after reading comments below there's nothing else to say! Welcome to the Angelina rabbit hole! She is our barefoot princess Queen of Jazz! She was sent to us from the heavens, our Angel. Great reaction keep them coming.
Angelina chooses which songs she wants to sing, no one forces her. She also does the musical arrangements. She plays piano, guitar, flute, and one other instrument. She works out the songs herself, picking where to put her runs, vibrato, and emotions. She began singing at age 1 1/2, and bugged her mother to let her enter competitions. Her mom finally relented when she turned 7, and she won Norway’s Got Talent in 2014.
the more you listen to her, the more sure you become that she is in complete control of her stylistic and tonal choices. she is 15 now, and already the G.O.A.T in my opinion. I am a practicing musician, for the last 30+ years and have never seen her equal in delivering emotional content on such a sonically sublime level. She has the most diverse voice I have ever heard.
I heard your comments and have a couple of my own. Angelina is 9 years old here. She has not experienced the adult events that she depicts in the song, yet she is able to convey the emotion as if she had experienced it! She has been able to do that all her life and is what sets her aside from other young artists. I have never heard a child singer have that ability and make it believable. She understands what she is singing even though she has not experienced it. Secondly, Angelina does not mimic other artists. She may take elements of things she has heard to respect the other artist, but she has always done her own arrangements, and has developed her own style of singing. She has listened to dozens of jazz singers since she was 3 years old, and certainly has learned different techniques and styles from listening. But nobody is telling her what to sing and when. This is the genius and prodigy of Angelina. She chooses what she sings and nobody tells her. I hope your concerns about her voice being lost as she gets older and her interest waning is unfounded. She was recently signed to Republic records and has released two new singles in the past few months. A million miles and 7th Heaven. She also received worldwide acclaim for her unique rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody on America's Got Talent the champions at age 13. Angelina's singing is in her blood and she is always thrived on singing. She has stated she wants to sing for the world for the rest of her life to spread peace and love. Angelina sang for the first time in her crib at age one and a half doing Whitney Houston in key! Her first studio recording is at age 6 doing I who have nothing and it is incredible. Her Talent is natural and inborn, although we believe she has had some vocal coaching along the way. Her lower register has developed unbelievably as she has gotten older. At age 14 or 15 you can hear her online singing How Great thou art, with her lower register at the same level as Elvis Presley!
@@kentovewagenes1141 Thanks. I hope that helped. Here is a link to a chronological playlist starting at age 6 and going to the present at age 15. The first 10 songs include originals and special performances. After that you will see the video where she starts at age 6 doing I who have nothing. ua-cam.com/play/PL2v8kgVeo4EbQD6l_WAVjOfItquzW7oEc.html
She has always chosen what she wants to sing. The paper given to the director, is a polite note of the changes she wants of the arrangement. She knows what she is doing. You can see her 6 year old in her music school in Norway singing awesome
👩🏻🎤🎵🌎⭐️🇳🇴❤️ Your questions and concerns about Angelina and her development are all natural and much appreciated. Thankfully, the answers are both readily available and completely reassuring (many are found in the informative comments to this video from wonderful Angelina fans). Hopefully by the time of your next Angelina reaction your worries will be allayed, and you can simply enjoy her performance and give us your insights as a reactor. I look forward to that.

And she finishes with an eight seconds low register vibrato... Great performance at 9 years old.
Hi. Angelina Jordan has just released a new cover. ALL I ASK by Adele. Its in her cover channel. One should ask: if she at 15 years old is at that level, where would she be at Adele age.
If you start the video from the beginning there’s several things that you will see she’s holding up a prayer candle with a picture of the original artist screaming J Hawkins. Then She makes some adjustments to the version she wrote that she wants to sing and then the person who directs the musicians takes a look at the changes she has made. This song would not work if it was sung in a higher key by a child but because she can reach those lower notes she is able to sell the song.I think that a lot of people have a hard time believing is that she is a child prodigy she’s also nine years old in this video but she can change her voice to fit whatever type of song she wants to sing.
Angelina is one of the most addictive singers I have ever listened to, & one of the very few, that can pull you right into the song, making you feel, every word, every note, & every emotion. ❤️💙 I always have this feeling that Angelina is not only channeling some of these late great singers, but that they also pass through her, when she is singing their song ❤️💙 A rare beauty, in every sense of the word ❤️💙 Whether you are a believer in reincarnation or not, I find it very intriguing that Lou Rawls, the American Jazz & blues singer legend, passed away only a few days before Angelina was born 😊 Loved your reaction & commentary!!!
Rule !: This young lady never sings anything she doesn't want to. Rule 2: She is in command of the way she wants to sing a song. She never copies a song but always makes it her own.
She has this crazy ability to inhabit the emotional heart of a song without having that emotional maturity herself. She arranged this and it was entirely her idea. She holds up a candle with Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. This is her tribute to him. She is quite directive. At the beginning, I think the man is going over her instructions to the band. Just wait till you hear her extensive body of work. She's a prodigy. And a vocal genius. And a great human being. She performs barefoot because at 6 she met an Iranian girl who was a street vendor and gave her her shoes (after speaking to her in Farsi). She said at that time a door opened in her heart and she climbed a stairway heaven. At that time she vowed to always perform barefooted to remind us that there are children in need. And she still does. As a very young child, she said "Singing is as important as breathing to me." Her family has turned down 90% of the offers made to her. She has been very much protected. This piece is impressive and anomalous. I like her stuff from 10 up. She asked her mother if she could perform competitively at 5. Her mother held her back till around 8.
Here's my take: she was raised on Jazz. She listened to Screaming Jay Hawkins (the guy on the candle) sing this song and watched him and thought "I could do that". She is in one word: Fearless. Totally grounded with her family. And she knows she was born to sing. She loves Jazz. I would love to see you explore her career. Maybe start with her audition for NGT, Gloomy Sunday. She was 9 here by the way.
I don’t think it’s just a matter of Angelina saying or thinking “I can do that “, I think it’s more that she’s inspired by certain artists/songs and is somehow driven to want to recreate something beautiful herself, and always puts her own stamp on it and definitely changes it forever , as her own .
@@danieljodrey8863 👍🤗 I go beyond that in a way , I think she’s the type of person who has or has had such a positive concept of herself growing up , a healthy one , that there is never a thought that she could or couldn’t do anything , therefore the need for her to say , I can do that , it’s more an attitude of everything she is exposed to is pure data going in to her processing unit albeit musical data at the highest technical and emotional level , since she was born , and what it does is it adds to how she creates . And that is where here “genius “ for want of a better word , is born and works . Talent shows are full of “i can do that “ cover songs . I’m not saying that is what you meant , I’m just trying to explain how differently I believe her brain to be wired . I believe this is what you get when self doubt and comparison never existed . Combined with humility and grace . Very rare . Aren’t we lucky ? 🥰
@@izzyboot9408 true. I guess you could say that I was trying to highlight that any challenge she approaches, she does fearlessly. Whether instilled or inherent there is no denying it. She shouldn't be able to sing like this...except that she knows she can.
Did you catch that she is covering the man whose picture she is holding at the beginning of this video? Can’t ever remember his name. She went to a school that had an after school music program, and there is a video or two of her at 6 years old recording in a sound booth.
Can't wait to have you check out more Angelina. She truly is a one of a kind singer. Generally if I get in the car to drive, I have her on repeat, its simple 'Hey Siri, play Angelina Jordan' - while it doesn't give me her full 130+ song list, it gets me a good number. I could listen to her for hours and hours on end on repeat.
From what I understand Angelina started singing jazz at one and a half. She spent a great deal of time with her grandma a famous artist who would listen to jazz as she painted. In an interview she said that when she was very young her mother wanted her to sing twinkle twinkle little star and she refused. There is even a video as a pre -schooler and her mother has taken her to a childrens singing group. You see Angelina who was born with perfect pitch looking around most uncomfortably trying to signal to her mother that this was not for her. Those that have mixed with the family say that the family is incredible artistic close and supportive of Angelina. They wanted her to have as normal a childhood as possible. When she went on Americas The Champions she said she wanted to sing for Simon for 10 years. So that means she watched the show at 3. The parents repeatedly turned down offers to sign her, trying to limit her performances but at 13 they gave into pressure from her. They started looking around for who would give her the most artistic freedom and control. It is also revealing that the reason she is barefoot is a meeting in the middle east, when 6, where Angelina met a girl with scarred feet and no shoes she gave her the boots she was wearing. She then went on to donate a sizable chunk of her Norways got talent winnings to childrens charities. It also was a factor in which performances her parents allowed her to do after this.. She wrote a book at 9 and is Norways youngest published author. Angelina is quite modest in her every day life but as an artist she knows exactly what she wants. Norway has got talented worried that at 7 she was too young until they saw her talking to her accompanist about exactly where and how she wanted him to come in.
She sang this in honor of Screaming Jay Hawkins, I would recommend you listen to his version (original author /singer) which is the face in the cup she is holding. The one thing greater than her vocal prowess is her music intelligence and knowledge of the history of music. She grew up with the great Jazz singers of the 40's, 50's and 60's. She is a chameleon that transcends genres.
Angelina is a musician , not just a singer. I love that she explores almost every song she approaches. Her abridged version of "Bohemiam Rapsody" for America's got talent shows that well. To me it sounds like she is singing like this because she LIKES the feeling of singing like that. What a surprise. No comments on her timing. Children often have probelm with timing and rythym , her's is superb.
A bit patronizing, no? Part of having a Big Brain is recognizing genius when you run across it. 9 years old don't do this. Not even coached ones. 9 year olds oversing and undersing. They're either incredibly nervous, or desperate to show off. They drop in and out of key. They make mistakes, are ham handed, miss the emotional forest of a song for the trees of hitting notes. Mostly they are just out there trying to impress their parents with the skills they have been taught. Then there's Angelina, for whom this wasn't even a start, but a middle. A voice, interpretive ability, and emotional connection to music decades ahead of her time. She was never a child "performer". She was a full fledged musical artist while her baby teeth were still falling out.
Thank you. Loved your comment. She is a prodigy. But a prodigy that not only knows how to sing, but one who puts her soul in her renditions. We can all feel her. Further, you surely know the reason why she sings barefoot and her commitment. This makes her also an amazing human being. Thanks again ⭐⭐
Angelina found Jazz at a very young age. Of course in the internet world Angelina was able to find all the greats on You Tube and she learned from them. Some call her the bare foot princess of jazz. There are over 130 videos of Angelina singing on you tube and they are all worth a listen. There is even a video of her singing along to a Whitney Houston song at the age of 1 1/2. She became famous at the age of 7 with her audition of "Gloomy Sunday" on Norway's Got Talent which she ended up winning after turning the age of 8.
I've read that Angelina sang this as a tribute to Screamin' J Hawkings (his picture is on the candle she holds at the start). Angelina uses UA-cam to research her cover songs. This is the only song I've seen where she does this growling, in subsequent performances she tones it down a lot.
Her mum said, what and how she sang was always only Angie's choice. I think she learned a lot by ear. Later she had some training at the extracurricular program at school. They later got her some vocal coaching but not not teach her how to sing. They didnt want to train away that unique sound of her voice. Some vocal specialists in YT reactions voiced concern about thetechnics she used to create those growls. Incidently she never used them again in later performances of this song. So I believe there was some oversight to make sure she didnt develop habits damaging to her voice. All things considered I thing her mum mostly pulled all the stops to make sure she could have a relatively normal childhood. And that was probably an important thing to do. Major labels offered millions of dollars to sign her rightaway after Norways Got Talent. At age of 8! The family declined.
Angela began listening to old jazz records at age 3. She apparently took them and made them her own. Also, all of the changes to the musical arrangements are hers... Also, her parents wanted her to grow up relatively normal, so she was allowed to make UA-cam covers but never sign with a record company etc. Until recently that is... I sincerely hope she makes the music she wants to, for a long time.
Great reaction, more than understandable and that's what fans expect when they recommend this song, it's fun. It's a kind of investiture, the reaction to this song by Angelina, it's the watershed between simple listeners and fans. This is the homage of Angelina to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, the original writer and singer and isn't a imitation, er reinterpretation of a singer she has listened to and admires. Certainly not many adults know him, certainly the only girl in the world who knows him and who also thinks of singing him without any fear is she. This is Angelina, the incredible magical little girl. It's incredible that this adaptation is all her own (the sheets written) and that at that age she was able to evaluate and transform, according to her sensitivity, such a particular and powerful song 😊 If you like, is exit two days ago also the her new cover song Adele's, "All I Ask", she is simply amazing. ua-cam.com/video/8gJuprckBxI/v-deo.html This is her latest original, released two weeks ago, "7th Heaven", very interesting ua-cam.com/video/N0yK_07a1_U/v-deo.html
Go to the origin of the tribute. Screamin’ Jay Hawkins from the 50’s. Look at the candle she’s holding as it’s him. This is a one off as any repeats aren’t the same.
She is paying tribute to Screamin J. Hawkins who wrote this song in the 60's That is the photo on the candle at the beginning....All her own choices in this piece. She is instinctively sensitive. Just read about her encounter with a shoeless homeless girl when Angelina is 6 and the book she wrote about it. PS why she doesn't wear shoes. Actually, her vabrado is not fake. LIsten to Sommertime at 7.... and All I ask at 15.....
She is a child prodigy. This arrangement is done by her. She does exactly what she planned herself. She is known as ''the boss'' in the studio. The best voice ever. You do not need to check more from her, she is doomed to great success worldwide. She is the next level.
She was 9 in this and forget about all those kid singers that u have ever seen or heard she is totally different and she is 15 now and she is gonna be a living legend for sure great reaction 🙏🙏👍👍💙💙
An exhaustive and very correct analysis of the danger of forcing / exploiting the supposed talent of young people. Fortunately for the world of music, I believe that we are facing one of those exceptional talents that emerge every many years.
Angelina arranges most of her music. You need to hear her younger performances. Angelina is now 15 and is singing beautifully. Hope you do More of her. I like your reactions. Very great.
I appreciate that you raise ethical concerns for such a young artist. Once you've watched a few of her many video performances it's hard to believe she's doing anything other than something she love's doing, in a manner she loves doing it (wow, sorry about that sentence). Now that she's getting more deeply involved with the actual industry, it continues to be a potential concern, something I pray Angelina's parents are actively on guard for.
You have to know her history to understand that anybody is using her!..she loves to sing since she was 1 and half years old. She is just amazing, and it doesn't sound like a kid, she has a very mature voice for her age.
Charlie, you are not listening to an average kid singer. Trust me on this one! Angelina is a child prodigy musical genius. I dare you to name another singer of her artistry in the past 100 years. Angelina was not taught, coached or groomed to perform this song. Please review more. And welcome to Angelina's Rabbit Hole.
Thank you for a really good in depth technical reaction/analysis of this iconic performance of I Put a Spell on You by then 9 year old Angelina Jordan. This was a unique snapshot in time of Angie in full beast mode. The early Angelina Jordan performances on Norway’s Got Talent (age 7 and 8) will blow you away. It’s like she is channeling Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nancy Sinatra. For your audience members who say there’s no emotion in Angelina’s songs listen to her covers of A Million Years Ago, Stay, Always on My Mind, or Wake.Me Up all done when she was 12 years old; or her most recent works (at the current age of 15 ) her original Million Miles or her cover of All I Ask. If there’s not a tear in your eye, then you don’t have a pulse.
That was very interesting, thank you.You will find that Angelina had musical and vocal training very early. Also her family reigned in her young ambitions to allow her time to develop vocally and artistically. From her win at NGT at 8yrs of age she was pursued by AGT and music entities. To this point the results speak for themselves if you explore in depth who she is as a person and artistically.
I listen to Angelina almost everyday. She has full control over her singing career. She would have won AGT but she and her parents refused Simon's ridiculous contract. They signed with Republic Records because they allowed her and her Uncle Michael (her manager) to have control. She picks the songs. She picks the arrangements like she did for this song and 220 others on her channel before signing with them and she continues to do so. Republic, so far is being smart with her. A lot of us die hard fans watch everything. And most of us know this was a Character piece. We love the ones where it's just her and a guitar and the song is stripped down where SHE is the real instrument.
This is based on what Screaming Jay Hawkins did, but she’s rearranged the song, and put her own twist on it. Angelina picks what she wants to sing, but her mum occasionally vetoes. Her uncle is her manager and the lady you saw at the beginning is her granny. They held off signing a record deal until they got a deal they wanted. If you listen to her latest single, 7th Heaven, she is more powerful.
Jackie Evanco - still working in her 20's now and still sounds great. Patricia Janeskova - now a career opera singer from a 13 year old on a TV competition. There are plenty who started as kids that have musical careers. As for understanding? Well Angelina has a deep instinct for musical sound. Did she understand the lyrics? Maybe. Norway has a much more open culture than the US and kids learn and mature at different rates. In the end the song just works, big time!
Did you notice at the start of the video Angelina was writing stuff? That was musical direction for the band. Angelina takes charge in the studio of what she wants done. Angelina's parents only allow her to sing during school breaks
Hi Charlie. I love your reaction, analogies & breakdowns of Angie. You friend Elizabeth Zharoff really loved this too & Angie in general. Angie was 9 & 2 months when this was recorded & released a year later. Angie chooses all her own songs & does all her own arrangements ever since she was very young, even when she did Screaming Jay Hawkins “I put a spell on you” at barely 9, even at 7 & 8 on NGT (Norway’s Got Talent). Her grandma played a lot of Jazz around Angie when she was young. On AGT Angie made her outfit from patterns of her grandma's art work. She makes several of her other outfits for shows & concerts too. She also paints great, plays 4 instruments & speaks & sings 4+ languages, English being her 3rd or 4th. Angie turned 15 on 1-10-21 & she’s around 6 ft tall. Angie is a very kind, giving, loving, respectful, humble & big hearted Christian girl. Hi Elizabeth. Loved your reaction to this performance of "I Put A Spell On You" by Angelina. Hated this reaction. What was it you liked about it? Specifically? Please read my full (other) comment posted in response to this Angelina reaction video. Your reply would be welcomed. ... I noticed, after I originally posted this comment, that you recommended (above) Charlie react to Laura Bretan, a child singer, performing “O mio babbino caro” on AGT. Didn't you notice Charlie railing against children singing music that is "too advanced for their years," citing this very piece as an example. Three-quarters of his reaction to this Angelina performance was about just that kind of, so called, "child exploitation."
You need to learn more about Angelina. She started singing at 1 1/2 and has been singing ever since. No one has ever pushed or exploited Angelina. This was her interpretation and arrangement of this song. She was a lite over 9 years old when this was recorded, a year after she won Norway’s Got Talent in 2014. There are no recordings of her singing this later with the same level of effort. One of your commenters during this reaction was concerned about emotion. Tell him/her to watch any of her 130 performances on UA-cam and learn how.emotion flows out her body and directly into your soul no matter the genre. I think if you follow her career for multiple songs and you look at this reaction a few months down the road most if not all of you questions and concerns will be answered. Please follow her. The pleasure you will experience will enhance your life.
Angelina had a clear idea of what she wanted in her singing career and the path to take when she was five. After she won Norway's Got Talent at eight years old, recording companies where beating on her door wanting to sign her. Her parents told them all NO. She has to get her education and have a childhood before she can do any of that. Her mother said they turned down 90% of the requests for her to perform. They allowed her to do a few select shows that sounded like they might be fun for her or to raise money for charitable causes, but they weren't going to allow anyone to exploit her. Her career has always been driven by her. For what it's worth, Angelina has four other performances of this song on UA-cam. They are all much more toned down, but still terrific. This performance was a one-off tip of the cap to Screaming Jay Hawkins who wrote and first recorded the song.
She started composing her own versions at 8 years old..she sings how she feels. She mimics no one. Everytime she sings the same song she sings it a bit differently that fits her mood. Shes bright and to call her a prodigy is an understatement. Her parents have no instructions to her about how she should sing any particular song...which is amazing in itself
Love watching people try to make sense of Angelina Jordan. You can't. This is the only performance you will see of this nature. Angelina has sung many jazz songs that typically have darker lyrics but you will see that she rewrites the lyrics to be child friendly. She did this song at 9.2 yo after winning Norway's Got Talent at 8 with her first song at 7. Literally listened to jazz in the womb and started seeking out jazz on the net at 3. Her voice is unique at 15 today b/c of her jazz roots regardless of the genre, of which she can do any. Her parents have no musical background and record labels have tried to sign her since 8 but her parents wouldn't allow it so she may grow up as a "normal" child. She has never been forced to sing, she said at 7 years old on Norway's Got Talent that she wanted to be a superstar. Her family doesn't need the money. They are very protective of her. She has helped raise millions for children's charities since 8 years old and is the reason she always performs barefoot. This is now the 2nd song you've listened to and I believe as you delve a little deeper you'll come to appreciate her understanding of music and her ability to put emotion into a song that not many performers can. Angelina will be making music for years to come. Thank you so much for reviewing and analyzing this prodigious kindhearted vocalist.
This is nine year old Angelina singing a Screamin' Jay Hawkins song, in the same spirit as Jay's original version. The arrangement is absolutely brilliant, even though it's very different from Jay's flamboyant style, you can absolutely hear that she has understood the essence of the song and jay's voice and kept those elements in her own arrangement (yes, it's HER arrangement...). The parameters that normally apply to a young singer, do not apply to Angelina, she is in a league of her own. AJ is the soul driving force of her own career. She has a wonderful support team behind her, but make no mistake, when it comes to what, where and how she sings, AJ is the boss. In fact her mother has in some ways tried to gently hold Angelina's ambitions in check a little so she would have a normal childhood and not get exploited by the music industry, that has been knocking on AJ:s door since she was seven. To see what her wonderful voice sounds like today, at fifteen years old, you only have to listen to her two latest songs. The original "7th heaven" and her cover of Adele's "All I Ask". As many of Angelinas fans (Angels) will tell you though, her outstanding singing abilities is not her most impressive trait, it's her humbleness, beautiful soul and her social conscience. She is truly, one of a kind.
She watched a video or 2 of Screaming Jay Hawkins and arranged what she wanted to do with it, she also did a cover of his Portrait of A Man only she calls it Portrait of A Child. There are videos of her in the studio of her after school school for the performing arts in her native Norway reading the lyrics for the songs in English her 3rd language
You got spelled, no return and no antidote. The best explanation for AJ many talents is still to be found as you will find in the next songs you will listen. Don't forget to enjoy it.
I like your take on this as a music lover and vocal coach, really enjoyed that thanks. However, I did not enjoy all these 'questions' exploiting children, mimicing sounds, hurting her voice, singing inapropriate lyrics etc. Since you know nothing about her, why not assume the best and just enjoy this amazing vocal performance. I think you would do reactions alot better without your twitch chat influencing you. Now, I could say 'you just say nice things to get views, and do these reactions for money', or I could assume you just love good music and subscribe to you. I chose the latter, see you in the next one :)
Hi Big Brain. (Thought I would never say that. :) ) Yes, it's a tribute to the original artist Scream'in Jay Hawkins and it's very recognizable in many of her techniques. She mimicked him very well, but she also made it her own. To your cognitive health! Cheers!
This is based on Screaming Jay Hawkins version of the song. He is even in her candle at the begging of the video and I think there's no place where you can buy that ahua. I can totally visualize a kid watching it and find it amazing because it's so strange and fun.
Angelina chooses all her music, she does the arrangements and, in the case of Amy Winehouse, changes the lyrics to make them age-appropriate. She has been professionally trained since she was six and was raised on jazz records from her grandmother's collection. This is a virtuoso performance that few can equal. She has been singing since age two and her family is holding her back so she can have a 'normal' childhood. Quincy Jones says she is the greatest talent since Michael Jackson. Please don't make too many assumptions as you will have to eat your words as you go down the Angelina Jorday rabbit hole.
Angelina has always been the driving force behind her own destiny, She pestered her mother for years, before she was allowed to perform on "Norway's Got Talent". You might want to look at her first audition, and take it from there: ua-cam.com/video/d3gSho9yf88/v-deo.html
You will learn quickly to think Mozart - no exploitation in Angelina's case. The family is not looking for fame or fortune, they already have as much money as they need. The family has done a great job of protecting her from the vultures.
If you watch the beginning of the video, you'll see her writing notes on the sheet music for the music director, who in the next shot is seen smiling at her instructions. She knows what she's doing and it's all her, not someone manipulating a young girl. She's into Billy Holiday, Etta James, those kind of songs, so it makes sense she would pick this one. Go back and listen to the original song by Screamin' Jay Hawkins and you'll understand how it inspired her but she's not mimicking him. She's one of a kind.
I enjoyed your commentary, and I want to say that your questions about how Angelina participates in her creations are presumptive at best. In the larger context of her entire portfolio of music, you would find that she has had careful and nurturing support from her family (no hint of exploitation here), that she herself makes most of the choices about the songs to be performed and how the lyrics are interpreted, and that she has had professional training and care for her voice. I will heartily agree with one comment you made...she is a Mozart prodigy for jazz, but she is not bound to that genre alone. I am 78 years old, and in all my life I have never listened to an artist that could so fully interpret lyrics emotionally the way Angelina does habitually...no matter the genre. Anyway thanks for your thoughts. If you had listened to her portfolio again and again over a period of years as I have, you would begin to appreciate the natural skill and hard work that has made Angelina one of the best vocal artists in the last hundred years.
Im a fool is a must :D
Please don't short change this AMAZING musical artist with your preconceived notions.
It's 100% her, her interpretation, her arrangement. You can ask the band. She was 9 years and 2 months old at this time.
What he is smiling about is her "arrangment notes" (yes she arranges her songs at this age!)
She won Norway's Got Talent at 8. Just signed with Republic. She's now 15. She has more than a hundred covers and originals on UA-cam.
"All I Ask" ;-)
@@gregjohnston5684 And here is a lot more songs from she was a little girl and older... ua-cam.com/video/9TwFRt8JyZI/v-deo.html
Well, technically they couldn't let her because you had to be at least 7 to enter the talent show. Just wanted to clarify that. 😊
@@petersteenjensen1362 that's what I was saying just not as concise ha!
@Gus Erland She obviously enjoys singing this song and I'm pretty sure she
understands every meaning. And there are no overt sexual meanings. A nine yr. old wunderkind understands
what "I love you, I love you...." means, etc. etc. You would want a prodigy like this to sing "I had a little lamb..."?
@Gus Erland I believe David A. was simply trying to say that your comment was not relevant in the case of Angelina Jordan. 🙂
The most incredible part of Angelina's ability is to communicate emotion.
Thank you for your reaction from a new subscriber.
i believe her grandmother is a famous opera singer from Iran and has influenced/coached Angelina from infancy

Yes! People seem to miss that this is a single performance and more like a Character piece than her normal everyday singing.
I'll never get tired of watching reactions to this mindblowing performance of little Angelina
She is talented beyond our minds, she has listened to this kind of music all her life.
Her parents try very hard to keep her from being exploited; they wanted to be sure she experienced a normal childhood. But she loves to sing and a recording studio is her playground. Nobody understands how she is able to empathize with someone 40 years older but she does so consistently.
she had just turned 9,,,, she arranged this .. tribute and hit most all the key aspects, flair and tone.
She is 15. now and her vibrato is developing quite well. And of course her voice is more mature now. She is unique in the musical world!

A 9 year old doing her own arrangements. She grew up listening to this kind of music....so naturally she's mimicking PLUS doing her own style.

She has over 140 covers - she has listened to Jazz since 1 1/2. Angelina sang 4 jazz songs at the age of 7 to win Norway’s Got Talent.
Angelina is a modern-day Mozart a one-in-a-billion chance I don't know of any other nine year old girl that can come close to this
She has this crazy ability to inhabit the emotional heart of a song without having that emotional maturity herself.
@@izzyboot9408 I don't disagree, but she also has a place inside herself telling her Yes! You can do that.
All your questions will be answer if you go back to when she was 7 in NGT and won the competition when she was 8. She is 9 here.
I like your questions, I hope to see you discovering the answers.
Children often have probelm with timing and rythym , her's is superb.
here's a question.... who does she sound like? who did she copy? and who said sing like, "this"?
no one, no one and no one.
She is unique!
Totally right !!!
she is 15 now writing her own stuff and you have to do her latest cover "All I Ask" by Adell if you really want to see how she is developing
Her musicality makes her the MOZART OF THE VOICE.
I was amazed that at this time in her life she was composing her own arrangements of covers.
Check up on her back story, her life so far will blow your mind. Smart girl here. A real Angel!
It's incredible that this adaptation is all her own (the sheets written) and that at that age she was able to evaluate and transform, according to her sensitivity, such a particular and powerful song 😊
If you like, is exit two days ago also the her new cover song Adele's, "All I Ask", she is simply amazing.

1956
This song is based on the Screaming Jay Hawkins version.
Don't worry, they have guarded her since she started singing.and said no to millions of dollars so she could have peace and quiet and a childhood.
Angelina is a Vocal Goddess.
Ha ! So true Ted !!
Angelina put away her black wings after this. I think that she found out or was told that singing like this was dangerous.
If you want to see if Angelina has harmed her voice then you need to check out her cover off Adele's song All I ask. Spectacular!!!
She did her own arrangement. Been singing jazz since 3yrs. She is 9 in this video
In the end the song just works, big time!
you forgot one thing it is -- she was born with it !
Did you notice at the start of the video Angelina was writing stuff? That was musical direction for the band. Angelina takes charge in the studio of what she wants done. Angelina's parents only allow her to sing during school breaks
She arranged this song!!!! That's why she keeps looking at the musicians
Hi Charlie. I love your reaction, analogies & breakdowns of Angie. You friend Elizabeth Zharoff
really loved this too & Angie in general.
She always sings barefoot when performing & she wrote a book about it at 9 called “Between Two Worlds” & was/is the youngest to be published in Norway. Others will explain this or you can look it up. Angie never sings a song the same way twice, you could say they’ll all be 1st time reactions.
You should start from where it all began. “I who have nothing” Tom Jones & Shirley Bassey covers. She’s 6 in a sound booth at her school. ua-cam.com/video/RjQZKBpVaes/v-deo.html

“All I Ask” (Adele Cover) ua-cam.com/video/8gJuprckBxI/v-deo.html Angie is 15 here, released 3-31-21
Angie has always been the driving force behind Angie (Her mom Sara, just wanted her to be a normal girl) Angie 1st sang at 1 1/2 believe it or not there's a video sowing it (the song title to a WH song) & she wanted to sing for Simon at age 3. I gave you a info pact on your "Bohemian Rhapsody" reaction. I hope you read it.
Charlie will you please react to Laura Bretan too. She’s another child prodigy, like Angie but different genres.

These are just scratching the top of the iceberg she can even hit a high Eb7 & as low as D3-E3. Laura is 18 now (DOB is 4-7-02 will soon be 19) & starting to take off in her career.
When Laura won Romania's Got Talent in 2016. She donated half of her prize money (about 120,000 euros) to help the poor and underprivileged in that country. She has since gone on to do numerous concert performances and has released a number of singles. She donates half of the income from that to the poor and needy as well. She made it to the finals & she didn't sign with ATG just like Angelina Jordan & she got 6th place also. But now Laura & Angie are on their way to being bigger than AGT, In real life, Laura is a kind, loving respectful & giving Christian girl. She did great in Eurovision Romania in 2019 also.
She sings Opera Aria’s/Operatic Pop/Pop & Christian crossover. Laura just signed with Universal Music Family in Nov. 2020. Laura has over a 140 video’s out there too. Even David Foster invites her almost every year for his annual Foundation event. Laura has over 140 video’s out there.
She is real and authentic and introducing a young world to this. Read her history and your questions will be answered
This little girl is a natural, no one taught her, she follows what she's comfortable with
Ok. Watch her Adele cover "All I Ask" released this week (age 15) & hear if she's "lost her voice" (!) LOL
Yes I totally agree. Thank you !
A vocal master class..off the charts
Screaming Jay Hawkins was a trip.
He joined the Army in 1942 with a forged birth certificate, he was 13.
Great reaction, please check out her Adelle cover (All I ask).
