@@edwindobner8069 I left a nice detailed comment earlier, but here's an addition. I believe there should be an Vet Pro class as it would be awesome to see former factory and factory support riders hauling ass on the track. I love the idea of being an amateur, vet rider and being able to go up against former factory stars and champions. I think these former pros should be allowed to mix it up with, let's say A class, or Vet 40 or 50 plus riders who are equivalent to B class racers. Former pros should have to sit out a certain amount of time, like at least 10 years after they retire. Obviously, it would not be o.k. to have Ryan Villipoto retire from a factory ride and the next season go and race Loretta's. It could easily be done where you have 2 classes together on the same track. Vet pros with 40 plus or A or B class. It would be cool to see how fast one thinks one is or was when riding against the former pros. Technically, pro means you're getting paid. Amateur, no money involved.

I was a good local rider. Doing the 1980s I lived next to a lot of factory riders. We built a track that part of it was on my land. I got to ride with them and know their mechanics. I watch them work out. Some of them gave me a lot of advice. I did become faster and my bike became better. I didn’t need to worry about replacing parts. I also got to ride a number of works bikes. Some of them were what you dream of owning. Some were set up real firm or had power bands that were strange. I may of had the best riding school ever. But what these guys are is what many dream of being. I can tell you they did not have that easy of a life. Hard work and do you have a job next year. But for many seeing these guys and watching them ride is amazing. Finding out how fast they can go is shocking. But measuring yourself against the best is what it is all about.

My only question is why he didn't race a Triumph since he's heavily involved with that brand and has ridden the bike for a while now. He'd have to ride a 250 instead of a 350 but he obviously needs the challenge (i.e. Andrew Short). To me it feels like a lack of confidence in the Triumph making it all week.

I just asked this in a different post asking how/why are Pro's racing at LL's which I thought was a 100% amateur event? I may not all the rules. IDK, great to see these former Pro's race, I want to see them ride but let's create a class just for them. If they were ever top 20, etc. or something. I know there is probably not an easy answer and whatever is chosen if any, all will still not agree. Now, back to your regular schedule program...

The reality of former top level racers who had factory rides or factory support is most of them, even in their fifties, are still fast enough to enter a national or supercross. They may or may not qualify for the main. Most don't race pro because they will lose money without serious sponsorship. Some had to retire do to injury, but with many years off, have had time to heal. They don't want to come in 32nd and be beaten at a national when in their glory days they were in the top 10. I like the idea that an amateur can ride with their heros from the old days. But, at the same time, they are taking glory away from amateurs who never made it to the top. I think it's kind of cherry picking. Should Jeremy Mc Grath be allowed to race Loretta's? Should Mike Tyson be allowed to enter the Olympics at 57? I think Chad Reed has been appearing at Red Bud amateur races. What would this class be called, Veteran Pro? It seems winning is the most important thing to a racer and a former pro would likely rather win a lower class race than come in last at a national. Ahh, if only I could win a race and get my first trophy. But some former team Honda racer is going to steal it away from me, so he can add it to the hundreds of trophies he has sitting in his garage. 😊

I went to the regional at Budd's and got thoroughly smoked. sorry bud. you never had a shot regardless of the occasional Emig or Brown in your bracket. Mixed brackets (even if it's just B/C) are really only for the top level riders when it comes to national races like Loretta's. No "C+" rider is qualifying for Loretta's unless there wasn't enough interest in the class to fill the regional gates, and even then, he'd have zero shot at a decent finish in the national.

I'm not trying to shit on you, but Loretta's is the biggest amateur mx event in the world. it's a very competitive event. did you see the 250C race? those guys were TRIPLING every lap. it's disengenuous for you to point to ex-pros 25+ years after they've retired and say "that's why I gave up on Loretta's," which you did in your first post.
