Use leaf ribbon or fresh aspidistra leaves to hide your mechanics when using clear vases! It not only is visually attractive, it enables you to use foam- free alternatives, like chicken wire or AgraWool instead of taping a grid.

I use leaf ribbon all the time! Love that stuff and waaay cheaper than aspidistra!
But I usually still do a tape grid more often than the foam just to keep the water more clear
