Thank you for being the first person to point out that you can just rotate the camera horizontally to get the full vertical 4k! It was driving me crazy that no one else even tried it! My Pocket 1 can do that, so I figured surely the Pocket 3 could do that too.

I LOVE that there is a touch icon on the screen to switch from selfie mode to front facing mode. On my P2 I found doing the triple tap to be hit or miss and by time I would get the darn gimble to rotate I had managed to jiggle the camera all over the place thus ruining the shot.

I felt exactly the same way about the Joystick! I think they should have a setting in there to adjust the ramping up to the set speed. There is a tiny bit of ramping but being able to changing it to 1, 2 or 3 seconds would this more useful, and the same ramp down once you let go of the button. The work around is to not use the button at all and use follow mode on the gimbal
Yeah. The workaround is some even steady movement with follow mode for sure.

Thank you for covering the 90 degree turn of the camera for the selfie mode. DJI clearly wanted a talking point to be "look how fast you can make portrait content without any hassle!" A nice feature, but just rotating the camera makes the video quality exponentially better
It's good to know for sure. But in reality, the 3k is plenty for 90% of vertical video situations.

Nd filters are a must for outdoor shooting. I ordered the Skyreat ND Filter set. They won't be here til middle to the end of November, though. The tripod that comes with it works well, but I like to use a flexible tripod for a lot of stuff. My favorite is the Ulanzi Mt-33.
Nice review. Good point about it not having a variable aperture. I shoot my zv-1 in shutter priority and let the aperture change to maintain my 180 shutter.
You can't beat a variable aperture.

I just got it and it's a dream. I also have the Pocket 2 and this is a giant leap forward. Amazon had a January delivery date. Direct from DJI it was four days.

Great video Eddie, i got mine but havent played with it yet since im currently traveling. My question is, when you were shooting your video, the sky looked super washed out. I thought i saw other videos where it didnt do this. Do you know if their is a setting for this or was this fixed in post? The other videos made it seemed like it was out of the box setup like this to show the sky and clouds and what not. So just curious. Thanks again
My exposure was off, but there was also full cloud coverage during the pumpkin picking.

Thank you for your helpful video. I have a question: I understood that there is no tracking in the slowmo modes (4K 120 fps and 1080 240 fps), but does the auto focusing work correctly? I have seen some blurry shooting of subjects in movement in slowmo. Do you think that was accidental? Did you make any test beside the 2 very short ones that are included in your video? Thank you in advance!
I'm still testing and plan to do a video on all the slow mo stuff very soon. I have a lot of test footage but wanted to get a first looks video out as soon as I could. So expect to see a lot more from me in the coming weeks.
Hi. Very nice review. Got mine since 3 days as an already addicted user of pocket 1 & 2. Completely agree with you about this double direct access to Selfie mode instead of having a direct access to gimbal mode . Pocket 1 & 2 with their buttons were better on that. Please DJI, give us a software update on that point. The best would be to make this bottom right screen button an customized access where we could chose what we want as a quick access . I’m looking to replace my iPhone on a gimbal and I record my kids band and vocal concerts and I need zoom. Nothing major, zoom wise, but I’m wondering what your thoughts on the zoom is? I can’t seem to find any user experience with the friggin zoom, lol.. I just need to know if this camera can replace my iPhone w/ gimbal.. It is a 2x digital zoom in 4k, and it looks pretty nice still zoomed. Most won't be able to tell. The problem is, if they record in low light mode, the zoom isn't available. I'm not sure where your kid performs, but that could be an issue.

It's something to be noted. But the 3k cropped looks nice anyways so I probably will just use that.

You’re right on. Looks like this is an excellent upgrade and DJ did a good job with it. Planning on getting one when I know I’ll be using it a lot.
I really liked using the DJI stick with a pocket2. Any idea if the old stick is compatible with the Pocket3? I doubt it though and too bad. I’m expecting more accessories to be offered from DJI and also third parties in the upcoming months
I'm not sure about the stick. I never got one myself. I'm sure it will need a new one.
Spot on honest review 👍 I'm very tempted and will see what, if any, offers are on Black Friday. I just can't decide on getting the basic or creator combo. I've slready got the DJI Mic. Any thoughts? (Oh, and subscribed 😃👍❤️)
The old dji mic works with it, but you do have to connect the receiver to the pocket 2. You could always consider selling the dji mic you have and getting the combo. That's all up to you though. The new one does have 32bit Float which is pretty awesome. Tough call...

Although their are ways to work around the lens distortion its more prominent in thr wide angle lens but you still get it on the exsisting lens if you go to close to your subject

It can, but you have to adapt the mic receiver to the Pocket 3. It doesn't pair directly with it.

Great video. Question - you compared the pocket 3 with sony ZV quite a bit in the video (product showcase). My question is on depth of field - can the pocket3 do a good job on getting the depth of field and bokeh effect? Thanks.
It's not extreme on the Pocket 3, but in my opinion, it is a pleasant depth of field/ bokeh. I will do a direct comparison in the coming weeks.

It all matters how you're going to use it.
I like your review and style - looking forward to more videos. Just a little constructive criticism - maybe it's because I'm old but...the beat music detracts from all the great info you are giving out. I'm having difficulty zoning it out - otherwise maybe an extra few more dB less than your voice. I think the standard is 18dB less (although ditching it altogether would be awesome lol)

@@EddieStudios I had no idea about the 32 bit audio, another awesome feature! Great workaround for the negative comments on portrait mode. I’m the same as you though, it’s really a non issue. Who needs more than 3K on a gimble stabilised selfie camera?! Haha! That’ll be a feature for feature’s sake on future competitor gear.

Nope. Pocket 3 filters are magnetic.
I see it was answered, but no you can't. Like was already said they attach differently.
Can you use dji mic 2 for recording voice on iPhone/Android? Thinking of buying the combo pack if the mic can be used as wireless mic for other devices.
You can't record 2 your iPhone or other devices from it. But you can record onto it while recording on those other devices and sync the audio later.
Great video brother, new sub. I'm wanting this but my fear is it's so pricey, if the gimbal breaks your camera is toast. I've had my dji drone gimbal get "stuck" and now it's unusable. That aside I'd still really like to get this for all the advantages especially where audio is concerned.

you can find drone repair person that can reset your drone for the gimbal to fix itself.
Thanks for your inciteful review. My 1 big gripe is that there is no HDMI out. Could you try a USB C to HDMI adaptor and report back? I would like to feed this camera into an ATEM Mini and be able to switch inputs. Also, can you confirm if the DJI Pocket 2 wireless mic works with the Pocket 3? I am seeing mixed answers. And yes, I know I can use the DJI Wireless Mic kit with the receiver plugged into to USB C.
As far as I know, the pocket 2 mic doesn't. But I will attempt that and the USB to hdmi, and try to mention them in a coming video.
Great call out at 9:42 about not being able to switch gimble modes from the joystick! It seems redundant to have the triple-tap and a button on the screen to flip the camera. They should've kept the joystick button taps for gimble mode control. I've had a bad experience with the triple-tap, where it only flips 50% of the time and instead just changes the camera mode from video to photo or vice versa.
its for one hand use, that's why they added the triple-tap, for me its convenient to use, loving my pocket 3

Can you do a comparison of still photography between the DJI pocket 3, the Sony zv e10 and your phone? No one mentioned the photo aspect of it and I'm curious to see if this can hold up against the other
I will on a short. I doubt it holds up, though. It's only like 9 Megapixels. I'm hoping they do some firmware updates to get us some long exposure options past 1 second shutter also.
I ordered the creator kit yesterday. I always talked myself out of the other versions and this one looks so much better. Great video!! One question though, if you only shoot in landscape will it be in 4K? I've never shot with the vertical "cell phone" look because it's not something I like.
Yes. Unless you choose a lower resolution.

I've seen others use it. It just plugs in to the usb-c
Can you use external battery bank, I have a grip with battery inside, and let you charge and record at same time? Might want to save money by getting standard version i stead of the combo packs. Thanks
U can record while it's charging, so I wouldn't see a reason why not.
Awesome video! i just have a question, is there a recording limit for 4k 24 or 4k 60? or can you record continuously with respect to the battery and card space?
As far as I can tell, there isn't. I recorded 4k 60 for 31 minutes, and the only thing is it got hot around the gimbal motors, and it split the video around 20 minutes, so I had 2 clips after.

polar pro has polar/nd filters shipping at the end of November. They've got solid glass and the pre-order is priced decently (save $20). I'd go that route.
I saw that, and Skyreat ships around the same time. I may order both and see which is better. I need nd though. I hate not being able to set my shutter speed where I want it.
So all the filters from Pocket 2 won’t work on Pocket 3?

Thank you for an honest, insightful video review. My unit warms/heats up pretty quickly, yet nobody mentions this… could you please confirm your unit tends to get hot after only a few minutes of recording time or file transfer whilst connected to a computer? Thanks in advance!
I noticed a little bit of warmth,
but not uncomfortably. If I remember correctly they had a problem with that in the beginning of the pocket 2 and they fixed it with a firmware update. I will do some long shooting tests this week and mention it if it's a problem with my unit.

Hey man. I just tested it with 4k 60p for 8 minutes. I used active track and moved the gimbal a lot. It got a little warm behind the monitor and by the top where the gimbal motors are, but nothing I would be concerned about. If yours is doing more than that, I would say it's a factory defect, and I would get a replacement.
Just look in the menu, you have joystick speed, you can adjust the fumble speed when using joystick

Yes I was certainly confused by a number of the reviewers “comes with” comments, I thought the magnet that came with the mic was one of them till I found it in a tiny pocket in the case !😀

Nice video. Yes I already see a bad review on amazon where the buyer was expecting the mist filter and the gopro style clip. Not sure why all the UA-camrs DJI asked to promote didn't make that clear. You'd think paying the extra for the creator combo they would just include it. That being said for my pocket 1 the best mounts i have are 3rd party. Would be cool if someone made an off-brand external battery that bigger. =)
Back in the day before face detection was a thing you'd just set it to close focus mode and the closest subject to the camera would go in focus. Or center focus and you'd move to the focus spot to show something. Glad we finally made a product mode.

My Pocket 3 is on order from DJI and should be here this week. I know that you can change the exposure compensation in video mode. But can you do the same with still pictures?
As of right now, no, you can't. That doesn't mean a firmware update won't be made.
What would you recommend for a gym/vlogger? A Insta360 or Pocket3? Id imagine one full video is better than it panning around? Wrong? I have zero experience with the insta but I did have a osmo pocket and although it was kindof cool it sucked how little width the camera caught you really had to use the stick.
I'd go pocket3 with the wide lens on it and have it active track if needed. There is less you have to do with the footage after the fact to get your framing.
and this is why i hste influncers! Thanks for the facts. I did wonder why they kept saying it came with ND filters and that clip. Im a bit peeved it does not!

Hi mate, just subscribed. Can you tell me if I wanted to film myself but keep the background in focus to show where I was like with an action camera is it possible. Cheers from the UK.
So, you can't do anything to close down the aperture, making more things in focus. What you could do is step back from the camera. When it focuses on you further from the camera, it would make everything else more in focus. Basically, the closer you are to the camera, the more out of focus the background will be.

I currently don't have any ND filters. I don't believe you can stack them with the dji ones. Freewell made a wide angle lens with nd filters for the pocket 2, so hopefully, they will with the 3.
Great video - thanks! Any word on overheating? I saw a video from another person who said his unit overheated and shut down after about 30 minutes of recording in 4K. So far that's the only thing I've heard about that. Guess he could have a defective unit since they were pumping these things out so fast to get them in everyone's hands. But one of things I want to to do is use it for a webcam...and overheating and shutting down would be an issue. Thanks again for the video and thanks in advance or any info.
I'm going to give it a long run test. But I ran it for 10 minutes in 4K 60 and had no issues with overheating.

Hopefully they can lower the shutter speed beyond one second on the still photo’s. I’d hope it would match Action 4.
That is a major flaw. The Pocket 2 gets to like 8 seconds and takes some nice, long exposure photos. Hopefully a firmware update fix in the future
Mine arrived today and I was initially PO'd about the big yellow message evertime I pressed record the SD ultra card might stop recording so I borrowed one of my extreme cards from my camera and it went away. But once woud be nice not every time you press record. I have the pocket 2 and it feels very different but a few shoots will get the muscle memory going.
I had to switch to a memory card with a faster write speed also. It really needs to be faster than 100mbps. It makes since though with 10bit color.

It's very easy to just turn on and start using. The automatic settings are really nice.
thanks for the video! How much footage can you shoot with a 128gb card at 4k 30FPS? Can you also power it via USB-C with a battery bank to extend battery life or can you only use their battery extension?
I haven't tried using a battery bank yet. But I was able to with the pocket 3. I would be surprised if I couldn't with the pocket 3. I will test it out and try to have that info available in a coming video.
It is over 2 hours with a 128 card. I switch between 30fps and 60 a lot so it changes.

A few telephoto lenses to make it closer to 50mm and/or 85mm will be nice

Thank you for the information you give. My only concern is about the overheating. With P2 I didn't have any issue even if I was shooting in 4K/30fps for 30+ minutes in the summer heat. I hope the P3 is doing the same great job and doesn't stop recording because of overheat. Do you have some experience with long shooting time?
The longest I have recorded straight is 10 minutes at 4k60 with no issue. I plan to test that further.

I just can’t wait for the day DJI puts every camera manufacture to shake with a hybrid camera like the A7Iv. They already own Hasselblad… so in my opinion it’s not a matter of if but a matter of when. They already beat every camera out there with a 1” sensor and 4k 10 bit 422 capabilities. Sony had its chance with the ZV1 II

How smooth are the walking shots? Does it have the infamous “DJI Bounce” when footage is played back?
They are as smooth as you try to make them. No gimbal lacks bounce unless you get the ninja walk down. Also, "Scotty Makes Stuff" makes a 4th axis for the pocket 2 that fixes that. I'm sure he will put one out for the 3.

One thing I haven't seen answered, is the bottom of the Pocket 3 camera comparable with the action magnetic mount adapters? It seems like it has similar clip slots. That is a huge feature if so. I have 8 different tripods/grips, selfie sticks and mounts with DJI magnetic adapters on them for my action 4.
It is not. The pocket 3 connection is smaller. If enough people want it, someone might make a step-down adapter that allows them to link up.
Ah, that's disappointing. I hope someone does make an adapter
This thing is excellent. I've been looking for a capable, compact camera that produces great results in low light that I can shoot real estate videos.
My Canon R50/Nisi 9mm f2.8 and Weebil S gimbal set-up is amazing but not great for work flow.
Probably only use the pocket 3 when I have 2 or more real estate and walk through videos in a day. Certainly great for work flow.
Is there bowing/warping with the wide angle adaptor? That would be the only thing that wouldn't allow me to use it.
I plan to use mine for real estate videos also. There is some barrel distortion with the wide lens, but if you edit in DaVinci Resolve, there is an easy way to fix it. I did some testing to make sure it makes it look good, and I believe it does. I'll be posting my first real estate video when I do it.

I love my pocket 2. Is this an upgrade worth getting?
In my opinion, it's one of the most significant upgrades I've seen in a camera in a while. That being said, if you don't have the money and your pocket 2 still works, you can create some pretty amazing stuff with it.
Have you been having any of the overheating issues? or is that just overseas?
I have tested mine at 4k 60 for over 30 minutes. It got pretty hot around the gimbal pan motor. I then tested it for more than 100 minutes on 4k 30, and it got warm but not as bad. From what I understand, other countries have laws that make it so that when it gets too hot, it will shut off, but in the US, they don't apply that feature. (I'm not sure how accurate that is.)
@@EddieStudios thank you! If i get it, I would be running it at 4k 30 for 4-6hrs at a time. So I was concerned when I saw the overheating issues
How are you finding it as a b cam with the FX30?. Are you having to do much in regards to matching the colour/color science to Sony's?.

I've only matched up a few clips so far. As long as you nail exposure, it's pretty easy. My first day shooting I was not. 😆 🤣

Yeah. You have to get the hang of dji log if you're used to the d cine like.

That "comes with" is not really the creators fault. DJI has been loading up the kits they send out, including drones with stuff that NOT in creator Kits or Fly More Combo's. - Manu assume (incorrectly) that these items come with the Kits/Combos. That makes me happier I couldn't get a Creator Kit for 5-6 weeks after the rush for early sales was done. I may still exchange the Camera only since it's a huge expense to buy that stuff separately.
I get that it's not their fault. I just wanted to clarify it. Luckily, I had a lot available on my business credit card to get an early order in, or I would still be waiting.
does it make the same amount/type of bokeh when a person gets close like in the product showcase?
It sure does! I'm very impressed with it.
Can you conenct it to an iPhone and do a FB/IG live with it? Can you edit the photos, videos with an iPhone? What about the LOG profile?
You can connect it and transfer your files to your phone. Then use whatever editing app you want. You can ad a rec709 conversion to the log videos in the mimo app before downloading. That makes it ready to post. I plan to do a video covering some of this soon.
I have the focus issues with my 32 day old Osmo Action 4. Sold my Gopro hero 8 to buy this. Had to complete a Repair Request Form on the DJI website and now have to post the camera to Holland from the UK, where I live. If they don't fix it I'll immediately go to my credit card company, using Section 75, which is a protection policy we have here in the UK when a customer has purchased an item which is not fit for purpose. Any action camera is only as good as the quality of service you receive when the camera goes wrong
Man seems like a solid camera but i bought the pocket 2 creator combo back whennit first came out but rarely if ever use it. I have tried to use it for what i do, but an action camera always worked better. That was 500$ i feel i wasted. I am thinking if they can put a 1inch sensor in the P3 they should be able to put a 1 inch sensor in their next release of the action camera. I guess I either need to sell my P2 or just try to use it more often.
One question have you noticed any focus breathing? I ask because i was watching another reviewer and thought i noticed the camera doing just that. It wasn't bad but i felt like it definitely was was going in focus and out of focus untill it found what it could focus on.
Overall though definitely not in my price range for sure. I will continue to drag on with my action 2 and pocket 2. 😢
There is some focus breathing, which is expected. If you watch the part where I show the product showcase you can see it.

Have DJI dropped using the Mimo App? I would like to use the camera remotely for stage work. The Mimo App also gave you a sensitive gimbal movement.
It's still available. And yeah, you can do smooth gimbal movement with the app.
Thank you for the information. No-one as yet that I have seen have gone into if the Mimo app does more with the new Osmo. I know it can now be used as a webcam and apparently can live stream. Both excellent features but I also prefer to use my own microphone for really windy conditions and I would have liked a direct mic input to the Pocket. @@EddieStudios

Is it weird that I want a 12MP for a better natural sharpness and details? It'll probably shave off like 0.3 microns but a bit more detail wouldn't be a problem 😂. Otherwise low light on some videos online is great even better than the iPhones.
And same man. Something like a 3x-6x optical zoom on this thing would be sick. Though that'll probably make the gimbal housing a bit too large. Better than a clip on tho 😂.
For what you’ll get for the Zv-1 isn’t it worth just keeping it? Also it has a half decent zoom range
If the ZV1 does everything you needed to do, then I would just keep it. Having the zoom is nice. But if you ever need an extra camera, this is definitely a good choice.
@@EddieStudios I’m going to get the pocket 3 but I’m keeping my Zv-1 as I think it’s worth more to keep than what I’d get for it (especially as I’ve heard so many people say they will get rid of their z v-1)
@TopblokeGolf probably a good plan if you can afford to keep it.
I have a DJI Osmo Raw with a variable aperture and all the other camera features you spoke of... It's a much larger set up.
I bet it's fun to shoot with!
@@EddieStudios Nah its obsolete I haven't touched it in ages The point is that a device with all those features will need to be much larger. At that point, I'd opt for the Ronin and a small camera.
@londenard I get that but they keep making cooler things smaller and smaller. Who knows what the future brings.
The action 4 has a little bit smaller sensor but is waterproof. It also has the up and down stabilization when walking. Ofc its stabilization is worse in lowlight and doesn't have some of the cool mechanical gimbal tricks. But it's $120 cheaper. Which would you recommend for me? - WW
I will do a comparison video on those two soon. It is subjective if you want an action camera or an all-around camera.

I found that the gimbal is kinda buggy when shooting vertical, like I can literally be 10 degrees of center and I get a message of gimbal limit and won’t allow me to turn in that direction, until it hit recenter (gimbal moves 10 degrees) then I can move it. Weird… hopefully this is fixed on an update (yes I have already updated it to the latest)
I'm expecting some updates with bug fixes in the coming months.🤞
@@EddieStudios yup, I tried the gimbal recalibration and so far it’s been good, but who knows what causes this bug
It's an absolute banger for the price. Lots of value DJI gave us. My hangups are the not true vertical aspect, no histogram that I can tell, and imstalling an SD card is crazy hard if you keep your finger nails short. Also, I wish there was an extension to mount lighting or other external devices to it.
All in all, these are small issues compared to the overall value.
There is a histogram through the mimo app. Just a heads up on that. And over exposure zebras. The sd card is a nightmare with short nails. 😆
