The bad guys in a lot of these comedy movies from the 2000's were always the highlights, like Will Ferrell in Zoolander, Sacha Baron Cohen in Talledega Nights, Ben Stiller in Dodgeball, and Adam Scott in Step Brothers.
@@sphen3109 Rewatch the movie after thinking about this. Derrick is just a younger brother that is tired of his older brother mooching off their mother, but he loves him so he’s patient about him getting his life together. But the second Dale moves in, it is now two grown ass men living with a married couple and that is where Derrick has seen enough. Derrick decides to convince Robert (The dad) to sell the house and live his dream life with Nancy (Derrick’s mom) after meeting him one time, as a result it would involve kicking Dale and Brennan out, forcing the two to grow up and act their age. It is insinuated that Derrick even offered Brennan a good paying job at some point preceding the events in the movie when Nancy tells Brennan that he can always work with Derrick. At one point during the scenes where Dale and Brennan are purposefully ruining Derrick’s attempts to sell the house…Derrick doesn’t get mad when Brennan is pretending to be a corpse in one of the houses he is trying to sell, he just says “good one guys” or something like that. He looked at it as his brother is still just coping with being forced to act as an adult, so he’ll humor him for a little while longer. And then you have to consider that it is shown that Brennan and Derrick do not express their emotions like normal functioning people. Brennan throughout the movie had trouble just shaking people hands and giving hugs, then at the end it is shown that both Derrick and Brennan have trouble hugging each other, which tells us the Brennan and Derrick do not communicate like normal grown brothers, they are used to communicating by torturing each other. Derrick is just a younger brother trying to communicate to his big brother Brennan that he needs to grow up and move out because mom is not going to be here forever and you will have to fend for yourself, but they don’t communicate by talking they communicate by tormenting each other.
Fun Fact: Adam Scott followed Donald Trump Jr. for a week to prepare his "Step Brothers" character. The only aspects he avoided was the drugs and incest.
“For ruining the story… and possibly the evening.”
“Guilty as charged, with the stories”

The most underrated line in the whole movie😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
“Punch me in the fuckin face!”
“What’s this guys deal?”
Lmao love that line
I still use that line lol
The best LOL followed w/ "I don't know, son" 🤣
The ponytail on Adam Scott doing "Ice Ice Baby" is the effin' masterstroke and makes it all the more perfect.
Adds to the early 90s Douchery
Good song
Knowing how nice and non confrontation Adam Scott is in real life is just a testament to how real he played this role
All these years later and me and my friends still go "what's this guy's deal?"
I don’t know son
God damn it dale!
came from the Conan interview where he said he had to memorize the entire ice ice baby for that little clip lol
Guilty as charged, with the stories 😂
Top 5 character of all time
I know he is the badguy but i LOVE his character, makes me laugh everytime his scenes come on

Same. Plus he does kind of become good at the end
More of a douchebag not really the bad guy. If anything he was the guy that made B&D grow up.
Guilty as charged.. with the STORIES
Doback- "My God you're impressive!"
Could u please elaborate the joke? English being my 2nd language, i didnt get it
"Dane Cook! Pay per view! 20 minutes! Let's go!"
Underated line. Very few people were aware of how corny Danes stand up and fans were back then.
Everyone knew, that’s why it was a joke in the movie
pay per view
@@ChaosTheory9 yeah this isn't esoteric humor, it was there because Derek was exactly the kind of dude who'd want to watch Dane Cook on pay-per-view.
Why do I feel like Adam Scott got hotter after this film
Because he absolutely did
Because he's got dumb hair in this movie.
Guilty as charged ... with the stories.
Who knew Adam Scott could play an even bigger doosh than Jason Bateman. He out-bated Bateman!
Jon Hamm and Thomas Lennon both auditioned for the role of Derek.
Thomas Lennon would've been great but just a tad too short standing next to Will Ferrel.
Hmm can’t really see Jon Hamm as Derek.

Derrick was actually the good guy in this movie if you think about it.

I could go through like and comment on all the movie lines. Hilarious

weird how nobody is saying this guy is a bad actor... maybe cuz he is amazing and needs more roles.
watch severance, his breakout role it’s amazing
