I always figured that such a bec de corbin/lucerne hammer would be the best zombie apocalypse weapon. Durable, low maintenance and not too much risk of getting stuck. Perfect.
honestly i dont think a bec is that good its top heavy so even a lighter version will be alot more exhausting than a balanced blade, plus average zombies are not armored, in fact their rotten bodies are naturally less resistant than living humans so you basically have a downside without an upside and think about it this way: on a sword you have 10% of the length that is entire harmless (the grip/hilt) then you have 80% of the length thats decent and then another 10% thats perfect, in other words 90% of your weapon can get the job done with a bec/or any hammer its 90% that is entirely useless and then 10% thats REALLY good at hitting things but as i said zombies are (in video game terms) low health swarm like monsters you dont need something that hits HARD you need something thats easy to swing then again its not just about fighting and a solid bec would double down as a tool, you could even replace the bec (spike) part with something similiar to the end of a crow bar to lean in more to the tool which would make it easier to enter buildings and seeing as the spike part is mostely pointless (ironically) against zombies that would probably be a good idea
I do think Shaun of the Dead does one of the best jobs for depicting a realistic outcome of a sudden zombie apocalypse. Sudden panic, deaths, and mayhem, but any military would easily overcome hordes of shambling, unarmoured, unarmed enemies.
Instead of welding, you could have gone for epoxy or glue, with friction. Yes: It's let secure than welding, but less issues with inconsistend hardness by the heath of welding
It's intriguing that the concept of a zombie apocalypse changes the rules of medieval weapons a bit. Firstly, you can be pretty sure you won't need to deal with armor, so blades would potentially be pretty useful, but there's also the strong possibility that you won't have the time or facilities to do much maintenance. So we come back around to hammers anyway. I still like the godendag for this, as it's even easier/quicker to make. Plus you can upgrade a baseball bat into one quite easily, and at least where I am baseball bats are all over the place.
This is so cool! Just makes me want to make a spear for all the thicket and brush we have (it would totally be better than a machete i can't be the only one thinking this)
That third hand can be like an NPC now. You should name him……okay maybe not 😅 Nice choice, head crushing weapons are always extra damaging to zombies! See, who needs the AK?
На самом деле во время зомби апокалипсиса подобные занятия скорее всего будут на последнем месте, но уметь делать оружение необходимо уметь, я люблю тебя чувак
Nice entry, really like the idea of just repurposing a hammer, couldn't get any easier. Nice range, great versatility, low maintenance clearly one of the better ideas. Oh and I enjoyed the comic relief too, great video.
Nice! I'd go with a frictionfit Spike Tomahawk with a additional Spike on top. Basicly the same.. a little more versitile because of the blade, and head and handle could be used seperately.
I would make another one, but this time change things up a bit. Change the hammer shape into a Meat Mallet with spikes to increase more force and instead of a pick an axe head would be better, that way you can cleave a limb off. Also instead of a flat blade for the spear, make it a triangle pike for better thrusting and not getting it stuck. Last, but not least add a crowbar as a pommel for both another blunt weapon, but also a tool to use or mod a plow to act as one.
Lots of fun, and for a throw together project functional. However I think I'd have allowed that 'spear' blade to go deeper into the handle and then fasten it Messer style - much more durable and you really don't need to be able to go all the way through one zombie into another with your spear tip, half that length would be sufficient.
Looks like a good arm workout maybe something easier like a simple pole with a spike on it like a trash picker that would probably work pretty good too
I kinda think a walking stick aesthetic - i.e. no blade on the top - would have been very useful. Imagin walking through an apocalyptic wasteland with a heavy backpack the entire day, you would be very happy if your weapon doubles as a hiking stick.
This is hilariously similar to a weapon concept I put into a story I'm writing. Short hafted spear with a mace head mounted below the spearhead. My in-universe reasoning for its development was a spear with a more manageable length and bludgeoning capacity used in mountainous forested terrain. About the only thing missing is the counterweight on the other end. You even threw it like it's sometimes used by some of the characters! Best of all, I was toying with variations on the designs used by different characters, and I gave one character a version that swapped the mace and spearhead for a spike and glaive head.
Nice Warhammer! You should make a fist with your 3. hand, just let the middle finger stick out to insult the zombies! :D btw: put some magnets on your anvil! Even your mic screeches recoding the sound! :P
I already have one magnet on there but the anvil isn’t fastened to the stand. I just put it on there and put some nails so it doesn’t wander about for one project and then never did it properly. Nothing last as long as temporary solutions that work I guess 😂
@@NjordArtisan At least put some modeling clay on the tip of your anvil horn. Should bring down the ringing significantly. So your temporary solution can last a bit longer! :D
Well if you didn't put the top Spike on there you could have used it like a cane handle and then the bottom part where the handle is you could have sharpened that up so if you ever needed to poke straight ahead like a spear you just grab the head and poke with the handle

Love your work. Keep it up, I will keep watching your videos, doesn’t matter the exact content or jokes. You are on the right path and I feel okay to say that WE love it. Your blacksimthing is on a level that can’t be forgotten, but it is also your other qualities that (I think) will always keep you significant on YT. I believe in your fame. Keep it up Njord!
I mean its really impractical tho you would never want a bunch of sharp jagged edges on something you plan to kill something with if this didn't have the massive spike on it the hammer head was smooth and it was 1handed It would make much more sense to be called the ultimate zombie weapon other than the fact that if you had to actually use this you'd prob need to replace blade on it a bunch and seeing as that is holding the head on would just make it a throw away weapon EDIT: the knife even broke while you were doing the little skit at the end of the video
You keep mentioning that you should have welded the knife on; but you left out the better option. You could have drilled a hole in a strip of steel, riveted the blade to the plate through that hole, and having the steel strip bend around the hammer head and down onto the shaft. This is how pollaxe spikes are secured. 😁
Another fun little side project for the Apocalypse Challenge, next video will be a bigger project! I'm sure you'll like it 😉
I always figured that such a bec de corbin/lucerne hammer would be the best zombie apocalypse weapon. Durable, low maintenance and not too much risk of getting stuck. Perfect.
Also the reach 👌
And I was also surprised how quickly you could make one. At least the „base version“ 😄

Honestly building weapons for an apocalypse is the main reason I want to start blacksmithing
Yup agree ❤

I really enjoy the adorkable style of these videos. It's refreshing to see someone who doesn't take themselves so seriously on UA-cam these days!
Thanks! I’m glad you like the video 🙌
HAha, love it! You never fail to entertain your viewers! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Denis!
Using a hammer to turn another hammer into another kind of hammer.
immagine to be strong enough to use the thunder hammer in a zombie apocalypse, the fucking Z's would become sprinters just to run away from you
Probably 😂
Shaun of the Dead mentioned, RAAHH!

guess the vertical sanding belt got a taste of blood, careful, now its gonna happen every time
Oh it got a taste a while ago, I just haven’t used it in a bit and I guess it was craving already 😂

Uh that’s a good idea, I should make a poll for the name 😄

Thanks! It was a lot of fun to film 😄
Definitely the better hammer for that job!
Amazing Craftsmanship and skill!!👍🏻👍🏽👍🇬🇧🇬🇧

This looks amazing!

cant go wrong with a warhammer and that is a really nice one!

9:01 blade where
The tip snapped when I used it as a javelin, guess that wasn’t a good idea 😅
You can hear it snap after it hits the logs

Ive been told the Halberd is the ultimate evolution in melee weaponry.
Yoooo 22 sec ago
Never would have come up with turning a cross pein into a spike
mah man 🤝
You should make the blades of chaos
Bro, you just made a lucerne. That's it. It already exists.
Yeah he didnt claim to invent a new weapon

I’ve often wondered how a fencer would fair against zombies.
A pins through the wood, to keep the blade on wood be safer.
Very cool, but dosent a English polaxe do this already? Or a halberd?
Oh yeah, definitely! That was the idea for the video.
And I really want to make a halberd in the future 🙌
I want that Ultramarines Warhammer !😮❤
thank god its not the fast smart ones 🙏
Yeah nah I’d off myself 😄
@@NjordArtisan Lmao yea same
This turned out as kind of a weird mix between a Warhammer and a boar spear.
The Boar Hammer™️

Uhh yeah definitely! That would’ve been good. Guess I have to make a pollaxe now 😄
