I would recommend learning how to do it through command prompt, which is very easy, and that way, you don't have to worry about downloading potentially harmful software.

Hi Chris, thanks for the troubleshooting guide, it was of great help! Is it mandatory to keep both Remote ADB Shell and Downloader installed on the Firestick in order for the external storage functionality to remain in place, or can they be uninstalled without affecting it?
They can be uninstalled however, I would recommend keeping Downloader as it can be handy for downloading other apps in the future.
I have fire stick os6. When I go to connect in ADB shell I get connection failed. Tried other usb drives still same results. Any help would be appreciated

I expanded the storage on my firesticks, cubes, and android TV over 2 years ago. Easy Pezze. Love it. 256 MB flash drive on all of them.

Great video however I cant get the ADB shell to connect. keep getting connection failed. Running FIRE6.0
Unfortunately Amazon have blocked ADB Commands from being run locally on the device at the moment, so this is not working at present, I am hoping they will remove the block soon.
Do that deletin partion on usb drive using laptop or pc procedure is necessory?
becauseon this date(16/11/2023) firestick can recognise any usb format.
Not all firesticks can recognise all formats most can still only recognise linux and fat32.
Do apps installed on ext usb run slower than internal or is that just down to your wifi/ ethernet connection?
Apps on external usbs run slower as the transfer rate is much slower than internal memory!
I am going to set up my laptop right in front of my TV this afternoon and follow this video step by step very slowly. I tried and tried to add storage last week. All was going fine but I never could get anything to actually load onto the external storage. I could see it listed but it all stopped there. Going to start from scratch once again

Try rebooting your stick and try again!
I’m having the same issue and rebooted the stick and getting the same message but it also says you may need to accept a prompt on the target device if connecting for the first time and make sure target device has network adb enabled. Any idea what I’m doing wrong
Can you use anything else besides Partition Wizard if you are using a Mac? Partition wizard doesn't work for my mac.
adb shell didn't install.
I am not sure I am not familiar with the mac, if anyone knows please feel free to post the answer.
I want extra storage just to store recorded live tv from my iptv player - when i install a 128gb stick and start record will it automatically go to the new storage i have added ?
Probably not you will probably need tell the software where to store the recordings. You will need to check the software settings.
Do i have to go through this setup if i have already done this for a usb stick but then want to change the stick, or should the firestick find the new one ?
Yes you will need to set this up again on a new stick.
I meant can I just swap the new one into the same firestick that I had setup with another

Got to REMote ADB shell and did localhost and 5555 and when I hit connect , it says Connection Failed. Maybe I don't have formatting right, formatted with computer to exFat I think, is that the problem??

No, anything running from the flash drive will run slower, external storage will always run slower!

I am having an issue with my firestick as it had critically low storage.
I had the memory stick and otg cable and when it came up as usb drive I clicked format to internal storage and then it was frozen so I reset my fire stick by unplugging it.
I then could no longer find it in settings and it had changed the storage to 0gb remaining and no other storage.
Now my firestick wont load anything, not even settings to delete apps to make room
Completely unusable. Any suggestions?
Some sticks had a bug which meant that they ran out room for no reason. Your best bet is to factory reset the stick and set it up again from scratch.
Hello! How do I format the drive as external storage only? can I put it in public instead of private?
You need to format to fat32 on a pc and just plug it in to your stick.

Hi. Ive a usb 2.0 128gb, formatted on p.c... put in tv and clicked the prompt format to internal under usb then the word usb disappeared and gone off tv. I need that part to go ahead for moving apps in xploer... Why did it disappear??

It would probably be the same way, but most people have found 16gb of storage is ample.
I am trying to Run ADB shell command which you have mentioned for os 6 or less (mine is os5) but its not getting connected to localhost:5555
When this happens I restart the firestick and it usually fixes this problem.
My external drive WAS connected to my Firestick, but it lost connection and now asks if I want "external, internal storage, or do nothing." It also says that EVERYTHING will be erased... Do I have to reformat the external USB drive and wipe it out, too?
so I did everything the way u said worked fine I formated my 2tb exfat to fat32 but after I did all that my firestick started to act up it started to freeze and it was slow I had to take the usb out and reboot my firestick what happened??
Its possible your Drive may have a fault, it might be because the power supply cannot provide enough power to run both your hard drive and stick efficiently, also don't forget a mechanical hard drive will run much slower than internal flash memory.
when I run the ADB Shell I don't get "dsk:8,0" there is no number it only has mantis:/ $ I folowed the video 3 times not sure what is going on. Any suggestions? Thanks!
If you are not seeing the numbers then it’s not seeing your usb disk, please check your OTG cable is working and your disk is not faulty.
I get “connection failed” on adb shell after localhost 5555 input.
My usb is recognized and then a few hours later it is not seen , nothing has been moved . Why is this happening? I will have to watch this and see if it fixes my external device disconnect

Try restarting your firestick then try again.
Your video helped me tremendously. But Im not able to record a full movie, it ends maybe 5, to 10 minutes short how can I fix that?
I think this maybe a fault of the software, you need to contact the software manufacturer for help with this.
I plug my USB stick in and the Firestick does not recognize it. Tried formatting to FAT32 on my PC first with no luck. Any suggestions?
I have less than 2 gigs of the original Firestick 4K Max left and I want to increase that 2 gig area by using a USB stick. How do I do that? I already have external storage on one USB and I have a 4 hub device for my Firestick.
I would try removing the external storage then plug in the disk you want to use as internal storage and format it to internal storage, then plug the external storage back into the 4 hub device.

@@cwtek1 I tried this today using adb debugging tool and carefully formatted my second USB as an internal device. The result is that my USB external storage does not show when I plugged it back into the hub but it does all work. It seems that I have no visible increases to the Firestick 4K but I am betting this will do what I wanted it to do. Usable space seems to remain about the same now.

@@cwtek1 It appears to be. My regular Firestick is holding at 1.93 gigs even though I put more on it. The external storage shows up as nothing used but the drive still works with all my major apps in it. My take on this is that the added USB is now part of Firestick 4K and it threw the calculated space usage off. If this is right I will not have to worry about low storage. Sometimes the stick gets confused on a reboot but I think that is because I am using 2222 DNS now. I watched a program on my stick today.

I can only format as external storage, when I format as internal storage it goes into a loop saying cannot read USB device and it needs formatting and then after formatting it keeps saying that. If I select do nothing then it does not show any detected USB devices. I have tried it with 4 different USB drives and same result.
There maybe a fault with your OTG cable or your power supply might not have enough ampage to power both your usb and stick sufficiently fluctuating power can cause corruption.
@@cwtek1 the cable is fine. I checked with another firestick and it was ok. I had to restore my firestick to factory default and that resolved the issue.
Didn’t follow what is the purpose of hiding external storage yet some apps still not going to external storage like Netflix. I though the adb shell thing will force that
External storage is automatically hidden on some devices!
@@cwtek1 so moving to USB even after the adb shell partition, we still need to move it . I have seen a command to move the packages but hassle to copy pasted very long package and drive name. I was hopping for an easier fix. Thanks though
I set up eveything and my tv has a small pop up in the corner so it is connected but when I click myfiretv the usb option doesn’t pop up
Perhaps try a different usb device!
I’ve tried everything my stick is fat32 the fire stick is 7.6 and it still won’t show up
Make sure you are using the original Amazon power plug and cable, also try using a different OTG cable it maybe faulty, also make sure you are only using 1 in line device on cable, remove and Ethernet devices if you have one plugged in.

@@ricardov6841 I did but if the apps want to update you have to uninstall stall them every time update on the fire stick then add them back it’s a nightmare
I transferred BBC iplayer to USB. When playing it I got a message that an update was available. When I gave the go ahead I got the message 'Not enough room' Why did that happen?
iPlayer like most apps when you install or update they will try to install on the Internal Memory rather than the external, unfortunately its just they way they are designed.
Would it be easier if I used a flash drive
Flash drives are smaller in capacity generally but can be more reliable as they draw less power from the USB power plug.
yep that did it firestick kept saying usb drive full when it was empyu. turns out there was a hidden partion brand new sandisk

Just cannot get this to work on a firestick 6 with a formatted 16 GB,
but have got it working on a max 7 with 32 GB drive
on a fire stick running fire OS6 you do need to ensure that you've run the remote ADB commands first.

@@cwtek1 hi, gone thru all the set up and the image of a thumb drive shows up, I then restart the firestick but, there is no storage stick visible, yet it was shown when I had finished running the commands ,!!
@@tonyfriar5364 Possible your stick could be corrupt, your OTG Cable may not be up to it or your Power Supply might not be able to supply enough amperage to your Stick and USB device at the same time, I think this will be a process or elimination.

I have downloaded and formatted my 2 terabyte hard drive but the Firestick keeps rebooting, and will not recognize my hard drive. HELP
It sounds like the power supply you are using is not powerful enough to power both your firestick and hard drive at the same time, try getting a 3amp power supply (most standard power supplies are 0.5 or 1amp)
I am not getting option to move app for any app .why..please help.
Some apps are not designed to be moved unfortunatley!
if your external space dont show how you know how much space you have left
Hopefully you would be using a stick with much more memory than the firestick and you would never need to worry about filling it up!

ok so after a lot of searching and chat gpt i found a thread that said he was having the same problem so he partitioned his drive to less than 5 gig so i tried it and then the firestick recognised the usb drive,but still not having any luck in it showing up in the storage view on the firestick.
@@dekdeejay5081 Thanks for reporting your findings. If your running fireos 5 or 6 then I don't think this shows in storage view.

Thanks for your video, but I have a problem, checked my usb stick 32gb and it was already fat32, followed to the letter but when the usb stick was flashing I got an error “Error:java.lang.IllegalStateException:java.util.concurrent.TimeOutException:Thread Binder:616_E gave up waiting for partitionMixed after 180000ms 1|mantis:/$” going start from the beginning again, but reformat to fat32will report back my findings, feel free to comment any suggestions, thanks
Error again, used partition wizard to reformat fat32, only difference this time after “Thread Binder:624_F”
Perhaps try a different usb stick
although I have an error, the stick seems to be working, new apps are loading onto the stick and my tv are recording to the other side 🤞🏻
Hi, after typing in sm list-disks and pressing play/pause I don't see any numbers.
I just see mantis:/ S sm list-disks again.
It sounds like your stick is not seeing your usb stick, ensure that your OTG cable is working and that the USB disk is working, if you have another USB disk then please try another disk.
@@cwtek1 Thanks for your reply. I have sorted it now thanks. I had my usb storage plugged into a hub with ethernet. I unplugged it and inserted straight into the otg usb. I was then able to format my external storage. Thanks again.

I got this same error too, tried it with private and mixed. Disk appears as disk 8,0 same in your vid
