@10:03 i think both targeting non calls have to do #1 a change of possession before the hit and #2 a tipped ball. I think both of those things change the rule to allow full on football.
Penn State has a very good team, but they are missing a receiver like Jeremiah Smith, and their defenders are not as physical against the run as OSU. Franklin deserves the criticisms about getting out-coached, and his inability to make adjustments, but when they lost to OSU, Allar took a lot of coverage sacks due to the receivers’ inability to get open. Head snaps back from hit to heck/neck area IS targeting. You bet there would have been uproar if they wasn't called and the other was and vice versus. I appreciate their consistency at least. Once I saw the hit on Bond and no call, I knew they were going to let the game play out.
That clearly was targeting on Texas…the guy did not get up after the hit. The Texas receiver was grazed by the defender and immediately picked himself up off the turf. They got it wrong IMO.

Everybody is missing the point. You put targeting in the game to protect players. In a play that was by the definition targeting in all senses and a player gets hurt on the field. No call for targeting. That is wild. Don't have the rule in the game if you aren't going to punish teams for doing it. If you can't call it in the biggest moments when the play gets the most heated how are you protecting the players on the field? Simple get rid of the rule if you don't have the stomach to enforce it. This isn't holding or illegal contact down the field. It's a rule specifically to protect player safety. Absolutely disgusting that they didn't call it even after review. I hate the rigging argument, but what can you say after a play like that. Literally no other sane explanation. Equivocating the arm bar to that is laughable.

So in other words you are blind ??? Or just a Texas fan ???
It was helmet to helmet
@@AFL67pitt I was talking about the play were the ASU defender hit the Texas receiver on the play when ASU intercepted. Go to 9:19 on the video. I said the Texas hit was definitely targeting.
@@BUCKINUT you think the ASU hit on Texas (9:19 on the video) was helmet to helmet?
4th best team in the Big Ten
But the ball was tipped at the line. Idk if that would still make it targeting.
It doesn't.
The hit on the Texas player wasn't targeting. It looks like it from that angle but his arm hit the player in his body and not his head. There was no head contact.. just head movement from the Tx player..
Clear head to head. A little kid can see that.
I’m not a fan of either team just telling the facts
@@ZombieEater1001 it does look that way but if you see it from another angle you will see he doesnt even touch his head.
Not much of one at that.
Smith is a huge chip on his shoulder guy. As awesome as he plays I guarantee he thinks about dropping his first college pass.
I can respect a shoulder to a helmet when he was still able to catch a ball, but I'm not respecting an actual helmet to helmet knocking the guy out. makes zero sense!
The hit on the Texas receiver was NOT targeting , look at it , it’s not ! 10:34
It is. If they called one they call the other. Have to be consistent.
Pat is the first talking head I've seen bring up the Texas hit. They either should have both been called or neither. You can't call one and not the other!
The ASU player clearly hits the chest while the Texas player makes helmet to helmet contact. Not the same.
True! Consistency is a big thing in sports.
That was not targeting. In no way did he “target” the other player
Oregon was holding all game long tho. Would have been more belt to Assad those been called
The problem is when the refs fail to make the first call, then that contact now has to be a no-call for the remainder of the game. Not good.
I would love to speak to nick again. And I hope this gets to him. The Buckeyes are coming and I really wish the tide was in the way. Hardwood hollow Medina, David Borkowski. You owe my sister an apology
Refs had to honor the deal of giving Texas a home game in the semi finals.
Yep, just like they had to let Georgia win the SEC final. All good, because horns are going for it all.
Golden bucks
Both were targeting 100%. Also the lineman picking up and pulling Cam for TD is a penalty 100%.
Georgia can keep their SEC title. Horns are coming for it all.
And yes i think this game coming up with determine who wins it all. If horns win its becausd they are playing like they should have been this entire time. If buckeyes win they are the best and have shown it. Leave it on the field!
No disrespect to ND&Penn St. But i think Ohio State and Texas have been in embarrassing games and have had to overcome to be where they both are now!
OSU natiinal championships since 1968 seem when they weren't predicted...which after Michigan they weren't
They didn't call it on AZ St which I thought they would because he hit the WR in the head. So the refs not calling it on Texas at least made it fair. Both are bad calls but the refs didn't determine the outcome.
Love that pat took Oregon over Ohio I’m from Ohio and I’m a diehard OSU fan we should have won the first game we played against them but this time we had something to say and it was take this big fat L 😂
But he based that off the Michigan loss. I didn’t think you’d beat Oregon but I was wrong. I think you’ll win the natty but a month ago I would have laughed myself out of the building.
@ yeah I mean I get it we definitely didn’t look like we were natty contenders in that Michigan game
What is more NCAA than the refs completely blowing it with no accountability what so ever? Missing one of the easiest clear cut calls this entire season, afraid the Texas fans will throw a tantrum , and drinks, again I guess.
I am not an ASU or Texas fan. The comparison between the two is laughable. The ASU kid hits Bond in the chest. The Texas kid goes head to head on a defenseless ASU receiver... Big 10 refs trying to save the SEC...
Texas had the easiest sec schedule the only really good team they played in their conference was Georgia and Georgia beat them twice Ohio State we'll be facing either Notre Dame or Penn State should be interesting considering what an ax these both teams have to grind with Ohio State
Everybody is missing the point.
We call the whOregon
Celebrating missed calls now lmao
Hey ESPN, do we REALLY need all of those talking heads on the sidelines spewing hot air?? It was a MAJOR distraction from the game I was watching. NO MORE OF THAT BS, please.
I agree it was ridiculous. I found the skycast version of the broadcast and it was amazing view and the OSU band playing and no announcers. It was perfect. To muck jabber jaw talking. Who cares about Reggie Kardashian.
It is wild to me that saban lost 71 times
Dont forget he also coached lsu and mich st
And the browns defense under belichek but i digress
BS. That ASU defender was just running. Pulled up and hit the receiver with his side. That's just football. Please stop with your equalizing bias. It's old news and everyone sees it now.
Texas WR was way more vulnerable and it was a worse hit by the DB. Idk how you say that isn’t a flag. Simple as.
Texas’ DB form tackles a receiver that lowers his head. If you call one you have to call the other, again simple as.
@Peyton_dahlquist Idk what play you're referring... If it is the interception play. He was just a football player without the ball that a defender ran into, with his side.
Think
I knew it wasn’t going to be called because of the moment and the missed Texas call. Good job referee.
Love pat cool dude, but at the game calling it is not his thing tbh I muted the tv when he would talk.
Absolutely was not targeting
@@stonecoldsteverharvey7862 🫵🤓
It was not targeting. It didn’t match ANY of the criteria.
Fire Ryan Day
I still don't think that is targeting.
It wasn’t
I think the big 10 had ohio state lose to michigan to make sure 4 big ten teams made the playoffs.. Cause this ohio state team is 100 times better than michigan..The big 10 wanted more money lol
It wasn't targeting
No you tool- targeting is extremely dangerous - 😊
BS! A safety leading w his crown is different than an arms back incidental. You guys are starting to deal crud
That wasn’t a Texas helmet to helmet that was shoulder to helmet
9:19 not helmet to helmet
