I believe Octopus Fluids make Diplomat branded ink as well. I got a bottle of Black Diplomat with my Aero and it has that branding on it in small print. These are nice pens, I have no use for one since I have a Triangolo though. Great Review Doodlebud!

I love the thick triangular grip, but i prefer cartridge converters that can be accessed for easy cleaning. Also I feel like the number 8 size nib would look better on this pen. I wish the number 8 size nib would start being normalized, especially in this price range.

Loved the review doodlebud. Also loved the microscope segment, i actually laughed when you brought it out! All i could think was, if anyone’s gonna be thorough enough to use a microscope, it’s gonna be doodlebud. This pen is interesting, but sadly i am also on team no-triangles - plus, i have hands so small you may have to use your microscope to see them LOL. I think a pen with such a large profile wouldn’t work well with my hands. But, always good to see something new, and to have options!

My schmidt nibs have a gap like that and the broad nib has feed issues and skipping issues I think it might be both the feed not letting enough ink down and the nib needing a little tune up

Fascinating and thorough evaluation - as usual. I'm a touch disappointed that there is no ink window, even though that would certainly destroy the symmetry. I would probably take your suggestion and fill this with a syringe.

Hi DB!: That is a really nifty design for a pen! Only problem I have is the color choices as regards the trim. If I were to buy one of these I would be essentially stuck with the BRG and rose gold. Since these are car color themed, I am surprised they didn't have some sort of chrome or nickel plate trim, practically EVERY color has the black trim! Since it compromises the performance of the nib, that's a NO GO for me. A NICE blue ink is the Monteverde Blue Skies blue! Just got one of those pens with the free ink. NICE!

I like Pineider pens and love this design - but it's a hard pass from me.
No way to check ink level seems like a huge oversight. Poor fit and finish for the price. And to top it all, poor performance from the nib. To be honest even if they addressed those problems the price is still too high.
Thanks for the thorough and honest review.

    1. What's with the little dents in the cap?

In reverse it didn't sit well as it's not quite a triangle. Normal grip and side was pretty comfy tho. I really been enjoying using it. Unique look, but also very nice to use. The soft magnetic caping is nice. Now that the nib is flowing properly it writes wonderfully. Just wish that gets checked quickly before it leaves the manufacturer. Overall an enjoyable & unique pen to use. The dents in the cap? Do you mean the ones down inside? Those are to mate with the magnets at the end of the section to secure the cap.

  • @Vera-zd4iu
    @Vera-zd4iu 8 місяців тому +1

I read comments of people saying that this pen is too expensive having a steal nib and of course they never held it in their hands. A pen is Not, its nib or any part of it taken individually, but how those parts work together. I had the chance to see it in a store today in Italy and it definitely surprised me. The material feels and looks very premium, I have a Montblanc 149 and the feeling in the hand is just the same. The barrel also is very similar which makes it more comfortable especially for men and especially for those who have big hands. The grip section is "extremely" comfortable for me in girth; length and balance/weight distribution is impressive. As for the nib, as every fountain pens lover knows, the material of it accounts just for a small percentage when it comes to pleasure of writing; try to write with a Leonardo or a Visconti with steal nibs and then try a sailor 14k nib (fine or extra fine) and you will notice that the Sailor will give you much more feedback than Leonardo or Visconti steal nib and in some cases could even feel scratchy. Surely gold generally makes a nib smoother but just to a certain extent, the most important thing is how a nib is made and how it interacts with the specific pen; same nib with different pens can give different feedbacks. As for the grip, the big triangular shape (actually the upper part looks like a half moon and the lower part is flat) is, as said, surprisingly comfortable for writing.
The pen itself tells you the proper way to be held and how to write correctly, for me it was like trying for the first time an automatic transmission after several years driving with the manual one; Pro and Cons of course but definitely more comfortable.
When you compare the price of €290,00 (here in Italy) with other pens prices I wouldn't consider it expensive, especially if you take into consideration that a Sailor 1911s would cost just a little bit less and the look and feeling in the hand is so much different and less impressive. My Sailor King of pen (which i like very much) is very similar in terms of perceived quality and hand feel but I paid €900 euros for it, three times more, and a gold nib (1 gram of pure gold more or less) do not justify this difference by any means.
So if you are a man, especially if with big hands, you get hand fatigue and/or hand cramping after longer sessions of writing, you should really give it a try.
One more thing, if you get the total black, take into consideration that the colour applied on the nib might result in more friction against the paper so more feedback; if you like smoothness stick with gold or silver nib.

Follow up comment - - I don't know what anyone else thought, but I did have a concern. My admittedly tiny image of the Pineider Modern Times made it look like the cap had vent holes. Worrying? A larger image showed that these are NOT vent holes but are actually rivet heads. Better! Explains how the pen didn't dry up on long rest periods. Just saying....

Its a pin that is press fit into place for the pivot point on the cam that operates the clip. Dante was on Goulet and assembled a UR resin pen while he was there with just his hands and a tiny hammer. Its cool to watch him fit all the parts and everything slips all together.

This ink is a pigmented waterproof ink. It is different from the normal line of fountain pen inks they offer. The manufacturer recommends cleaning your pen directly after use with this ink. So it might be a harsh on you pens when you leave it in for a longer time. It contains a special binding component to make it waterproof. Octopus Fluids sells a special cleaning fluid. It dissolves the pigments as well as the special waterproof binder in this ink. This cleaner comes with a warning that the coating on coated nibs can become loose when you also clean them mechanically 😬.
