About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

The more rose gold is beautiful.
WOW!!! I am speechless about the skill and vision that Terry has!!
He’s amazing Vicki 🥰🥰
The moldings will be stunning!!
Thank goodness for Patrick’s help with the snail trap holes!! ❤
Haha. He was barking orders at me 😂😂
@@chateaudelalacelle Watch Patrick for signs of inebriation, he may decide the beer is for him. lol I love watching Patrick 'help' you working in the garden. Such a little character!
Wow, that design for the blue bedroom is absolutely beautiful...
I'm happy to see how helpful Partrick is! 😊❤
Great to see Patrick on the job site showing you the proper digging technique. Beer Party for the slugs, at the Chateau, or at least that's what they think!
Thanks Joyce 🥰
Your samples of molding brought to mind Wedgewood. Soft blue with flat white would be a classic. [Not EVERYTHING has to be gold.]
Ooh if you have the mouldings white it will look like Wedgwood! Stunning!
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
I like the Wedgewood suggestion of a previous commenter.
Hi guys! If you line stone edges of the flower beds with a exposed copper wire it will keep the snails and slugs out. They hate touching copper :)
Thank you 🙏 😊
Thx, I will try that.
I need to try this on the potted plants on my patio.
I stick copper self adhesive tape around my garden pots, even the hostas don’t get attacked. Done this for years, worth the effort.
@@donnajacobs4492 Super idea.
Terry, most artists will truly understand what it is to have your head full of artistic visions! When you finally see your visions come to life, it creates one of the best feelings ever! I admire your patience and talent. Ash, I hope that your beautiful plants come back to life❣️. Your garden is so lovely!
Wow, thank you ☺️
Yes, yes Lori- well said😊
And, as someone who is not particularly artistic, I appreciate how your family is willing to put in the work to create your vision.. despite the immense amount of money and effort involved!❤
Wall molds you absolutely stunning . Snails and slugs hate saw dust, put it around the plants they are eating . Eco friendly too. 🐨😃
Patrick is such a good gardener 😂😂😂😂😂Love the molding ❤❤❤❤❤
Patrick is so adorable supervising the digging in the garden! He's the expert! And I could almost hear Shirley Bassey singing "Goldfinger" looking at Terry! Those mouldings are going to be gorgeous!
Haha. Thank you 🙏 ☺️
I thought the same thing. Lol
Dachshund were bred to dig for animal pests.
Look at the grass!!! So GREEN! AND the scaffolding moved!!!
I would love to be inside Terry’s head! Only he can envision the design and end game! ❤😂❤
@@ananunez8374 it is full of to much stuff my head 😂😂🤷
@@chateaudelalacelle I’m pretty sure it’s ❤️😂❤️
Those mouldings are exquisite! Love them! You’ve set yourself a task and a half, surely, but I’m confident that you can pull it off. It’ll be mind blowing when it’s done. ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you very much!
The Canadian slug solution; 1 case of beer, slugs love it. Shallow dishes of beer set out under the plants will attract all slugs to the party, where they will drink and drown. Change and refresh as needed.
Oh how I would love to visit! I really enjoy spending time with all of you. I would love to dig in that garden.
Place crushed eggshells around the plants. The slugs will not cross the eggshells. The eggshells also provide nutrients as well.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Try several beers, German, French, English. It'll be interesting to know which French slugs prefer 😊.
Everything is looking absolutely beautiful Terry, these mouldings are so beautiful, well done to you all. 🤗❤xx
Thanks so much 😊
I love the mouldings for the blue room. And I think the pigment is a good choice ❤
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Blue walls with white mouldings would look great - Wedgwood style.
Thank you 🙏 😊
It would be stunning in a dining room.
❤❤❤❤ I love everything you have done in your home. I am planning on doing some of the things in my home too.
I was thinking the same thing. If not in this room, maybe a smaller one. It could be so elegant
The bedroom will be stunning and I can’t wait to see your vision come to fruition!
Thank you 🙏 😊
The mouldings remind me of a cameo, especially if you left them a pale colour next to the blue. Very beautiful
Thank you! Cheers! 🥰
I was thinking the same thing!
Wedgwood design room Stephanie @ Chateau de Lalande has an entry way like that
@@chrispeterson2012 that would be lovely
This beautiful playful design almost asks for being Wedgewood coloured. White and soft blue. But then again, everything you do is stunning. I trust your taste, Terry.
Thank you very much! ☺️
Lovely to see the mini j.c.b helping in the garden…well done, Patrick!
Thanks 👍
Terry I was speechles when I saw the moldings in the blue bedroom..like wow!!
Wedgewood, blue background and white ornate figurines, as the panel looks atm
Just love ash he’s the boss!
Haha. Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Terry, all is going to be absolutely gorgeous! The "Blue bedroom" is going to be unbelievable, like living inside a jewelry box! 😉👍
I hope so! 🥰🥰
These moldings will truly ELEVATE THE PANACHE of the room!!! 🥰❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🏰🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
you have always beautiful ideas!
Thank you! 😊
I just watched a video on making a garlic spray for slugs, snails and other pests in the garden very effective and cheaper than beer, worth a look
Everything is looking so green and lush 🥰 oh wow the gold looks amazing 🤩
You can also use watermelon peel face down. They flock to the moisture then you can dispose of them in soapy water.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
I am all for a red ruby 🤗🤗🤗
Wow the moulding is absolutely gorgeous ❤them
Glad to hear that Paula the paint lady is back and busy. Im just back from a day in Scarborough . I'll have to catch up later. Love as always from County Durham xxx ❤
Thanks Glenys. Hope you had a lovely time 🥰
How AMAZING are those panels going to look! STUNNING!!!!!
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Hi everyone Tracy has no fear 😧 climbing up high, on the scaffolding 🫣 and then getting soaking wet, cleaning & pointing the tower ! What would we be without our mums 😍
The chateau is looking amazing & Paula has brought the gate back to life again, watching her, makes you want to get the paint brushes out!
Take care lot’s of love 🥰💞
Try brown patina would look good.
My best slugs-"trap" is old wet bread slices which are going to keep produce yeast... slugs love the smell of yeast!!
Therefore they like beer traps too...
but beer is meant to be drank on a sunny evening sitting on the chateau staircase watching sunset 😉
The mouldings are absolutely stunning!
Beer in a dish only gets you drunk snails and slugs that are more voracious. Take those tops you’re recycling and put them in the bottoms with the mouth end down so when they try to crawl out they are trapped in the bottom. Just make sure the mouth of the bottle is above the level of the beer so you may need to trim it.
Thank you 🙏 😊
I’m not a molding lover but those elaborate molds are lovely. Instead of initially putting fancy molds in every panel, you might try every other panel and experiment with simpler piping (?) lining (?) molds in alternate panels. You can try it out and if you don’t like it, go back to the overwhelming-every-panel-elaborately-molded scheme. You might find the every panel scheme a little too busy and even detracting from the loveliness of the fancy molds.
Good luck !
That panel at 15:30 (approx) would look so good with the traditional wedgewood color scheme White on one of those blues. I think you can overdo the gold. It's only brass or bronze powder.
BTW - You can use either polyurethane or acrylic water based polyurethane as a binder too. Regular polyurethane tends to yellow with age but the brass particles are sealed by it and don't tend to tarnish with age, Either binder will seal the brass particles from the air.
The molding design is ,wow, beautiful. Terry, you missed your calling as an architectural designer! My fingers are crossed for your slug traps.
Fingers crossed! 🤞
I know it’s a very large area but if you mulch with sugar cane mulch or lucerne hay it will not only benefit your soil and plants but also snails and slugs don’t like sliding across it.
The beer works a treat and you’ll be amazed at how many you find in your little tubs 🤣
Yes but they tell all their buddies there's a party over here and you end up with more slugs than you started with.
Slugs @@amysimpson646slugs to compost or the chickens.
@@amysimpson646 They die happy !LOL !
It never really worked for me. Maybe it was the brand🤔
Does Patrick like beer?
The moldings for that room are spectacular. I wonder, though, if you couldn't get a similar effect with only doing selected panellings, instead of all of them. Sometimes less really is more.
Thank you 🙏 😊
Add salt into the beer and it will dissolve the slugs.
Maybe I’d like it a little simpler….with the lady in the centre xx❤
The moldings are stunning for the Blue Room, my issue is that Gold and Blue don't work together.
If you look behind yourself in the video you will see that White and Blue go together beautifully.
You have different themes for each Suite so you don't need to carry the Gold from room to room.
Just a thought
Gary from Nova Scotia.
Thank you 🙏 😊
Incredible progress, folks!!! So BEAUYIFUL!!! 🥰❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🏰🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
Thanks as always Kerry-Lynn 🥰🥰🥰🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
No need to waste beer 😂...Take two clay pots, one being about three inches smaller than the other, turn them upside down on top of each other. The dampness of the clay attracts them and they climb up the outer one into the drainage hole and attach themselves to the inside pot. In the morning you can go scrape them off the inside pot. Easy peasy. 🙂
The less brown gold is 10K gold tone. The other is 14-18K gold tone
Great job with the traps. They are invisible.
Thank you 🙏 😊
WOW how lucky are you to have such a focused helper like Patrick?
Haha. He was a great help with this job 😂😂
The blue bedroom in the 401 suite is going to be absolutely breathtaking. Keep dreaming big Terry.✌🏻❤️🙏🏻🇺🇸
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Try 'paillage' with Hemp straw, the slugs dont like it, or wood ash.
Snails hate bark mulch, the sooner you get the beds mulched the better. It stops the drying out too👍🏻
Was going to comment the same. The beds need bark mulching. Not just to cut down on the snails/slugs, but to help retain moisture and deter weeds. ✌🏼
The moulding is so opulent, I just love it.
Thank you 🙏 😊
Ooo la la suite 😅 antique gold paint rather 😊❤❤❤
Thank you 🙏 😊
Terry I’ve no words you guys are so talented ❤❤❤❤can’t wait for more
Thanks Sidra 🥰
Terry I think I prefer the dark red to the wood. I also think the blue room is going to be a work of art. Don't be distracted from your vision.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
The moulding is gorgeous! It will definitely give the room a much richer look.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
The mouldings are fab and unpainted there, with the colour behind them, reminds me of Wedgewood.
Thanks Tina 😂
All that work that went into the walled garden for a slug and snail fest. No way. Fingers crossed the beer in the plastic thingie works for you Ash. So pleased you found a better solution other than gold leafing the moulding Terry your plans for the room are glorious. I love the thought of it being elaborate. 🙌🤩
It absolutely has so far 🥰🥰🥰
😂ok,watched further into your vlog and you’re doing just what I suggested ❤️
Yay! Thank you! ☺️
Терри, молдинги изумительны. С нетерпением жду следующий шедевр❤. Ребята ваши таланты и трудолюбие вне всяких похвал❤. Счастья вам всем и крепкого здоровья❤.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Blue walls and white moldings will be gorgeous! Loved watching Patrick helping digging the holes for the bug traps. ❤
In jeopardy of looking amazing! :)
lol, somewhere around Louis XIV, XV, XVI ……..excellent, that narrows it down to about 130 year period 😂😂😂😂😂. Looking fantastic and I love some of these innovative solutions you keep finding. Keep going folks, you’re getting into the home stretch.
Thanks Mark 🥰
!! Another great and attractive slug/snail trap are 2 terra pots, both upside down and the smaller one inside the larger one. This creates a damp dark space between them and the slugs hang out in there and you come around, pick the pots up and scrape the slugs off into some kind of bucket, etc.. Also the pots look lovely and natural. You can use these in the more visible areas if they work for you. Diatomaceous earth is another thing you can sprinkle around the affected? effected? plants but they can harm beneficials so just sprinkle around the affected plants.
That’s a great idea. Thank you 🥰
@@chateaudelalacelle 😊
Stunning moldings. Could be just in plain white as well, or even with silver accents instead of gold. I would not mind if the gold was not Goldleaf but pigment. Its your vision, your Château, whatever you decide it will be stunning. I would not make 12 sets. Save room for paintings (instead of moldings) saves time... and money.
The latest moldings are exquisite and elegant.
Glad you like them! 🥰
I could listen to Terry talking all day long. You really are a natural when doing these videos Terry. The mouldings for the blue bedroom are so beautiful, I think it will be my very favourite room. Can’t believe how fast the grass is growing 😮
Glad you like them! 🥰🥰
You have excelled yourself with the purchases of the mouldings Terry. As you say a lot of time consuming work to be done but boy it’s going to look tremendous.
The moldings make such a huge difference with the elegance effect. Looking amazing.
I totally agree! 🥰
Hi there Ash. May I jump into the slug and snail conversation…you may want to look into getting some Diatomaceous Earth products and sprinkle it around the outside of the plants. They won’t crawl over it and it works great. Not sure you can get it in France but surely they have something similar. Good luck. Terry, the moldings are just lovely and I’m sure will be a great addition to the finished room. Watching from PA, USA.
I will check it out. Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Wow Terry what a vision for this room it is going to be very memorable being in this room cause of the details you are putting in so gorgeous Wow, wow . Ash garden coming along just seeing plants taking 🎉🎉🎉Patrick so cute
Thanks so much 🥰
With all the decorative pieces on the wall, it would make it very challenging to change wall color, which makes the decision even more complicated. A choice that the majority of visitors would like might make the choice easier. Pests in the garden are frustrating, so I sure hope those traps work. The blue bedroom with the moldings will be beautiful. If the moldings stayed a cream color, the room could be called the Wedgewood Room. That would truly make the room different than all the others. Fabulous.
They have so far!! 🥰🥰
At first I liked the bright gold, then I got to thinking about how you are going for the aging but gracefully look and the the mixture of the two was the best to give those gold embellishments the "right look".
Thanks Anita 🥰
Maybe, some people will blame because of cruelty against snails and slugs… 🙄😄🥴
Hi Terry and Ash, I can't get over the garden, the moldings are beautiful. I can't wait to see all the rooms once they are done. Love from N.Y.
Thanks Joni 🥰
Food grade - diatomaceous earth at the garden center or feed store will kill the slugs and snails.
If you painted the room blue and left the molds white it woukd look like Wedgwood. I’ll bet Louis 16 had some British China. 🤔
Your dog is soooo funny lol.
He loves being in the garden with us 🥰
Diatomaceous earth works great until it rains. I’ve also used beer, which works, have never tried the copper. It is so disappointing after putting out small seedlings, plants and the next morning they’re gone…made me want to cry when they decimated most of my cosmos. Love the the gold color you’re using, the room is going to look lush.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Hello, everything is looking amazing! You must feel so proud of all you have been able to achieve!
Terry, I really hope you decide against a faux wood painting on the walls. It takes many years of training to be able to pull it off. Your moldings are fantastic!
I sure hope your plants are able to survive, just keep them watered. It's extremely important especially this first year! 😊
Thank you so much! ☺️
The grass is coming along so beautifully!!!
It has risen so well! 🥰
Those panel mouldings are stunning 🥰
We think so too!🥰🥰
Do a wedge wood blue on the walls and leave the moldings white.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Stunning mouldings in the blue room!!
Thank you! Cheers! 🥰
The mouldings are looking great Terry I don’t envy you painting them all! Garden pests sometimes can be reduced using certain plants like herbs, also seaweed! Coffee grounds too! Water in the morning rather than night, the dryer ground deters slugs. I used to go out with a torch too to get the blighters. John in Monmouth 🏴
Thanks John 🥰
That room creates images of sunny, clear skies in my head. ❤
It does!! 🥰🥰
Besutiful moldings!
Thank you! 😊
You have such a good little helper.
He’s great! 🥰🥰
