I never knew that this Kong existed. Years ago I got my picture taken with Bob Burns and he let me hold his King Kong armature, which was also the armature for the son of Kong. I also saw movie "King Kong" in a vintage theater along with Ray Harryhausen and Bob Burns. Bob brought both Kong and as a tribute to Harryhausen his armature of Mighty Joe Young . It was such a thrilling time, I will never forget it.
The items on those shelves aren’t movie props, they’re holy relics! AND I noticed on the shelf above he has the Ymir from Ray Harryhausen’s “20 Million Miles to Earth”! Harryhausen is the other giant of fantastic film special effects. It warms my heart that they are treasured possessions of Peter Jackson.
less than a second has gone by... and glancing at my UA-cam search bar "bob burns alien queen" is already there with my cursor over the search button. :-P
Right about 60 years ago, a picture was taken of me in Fury Ackerman's old house holding the Kong armature when he had it. That picture was posted in Famous Monsterof Filmland mag. Several years later, i met and interviewed Marcel DelGado at his small, Hollyweird apt. He had the horses and cowboy miniatures from MJY, and the miniatures from It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World. Great, humble man. Soon after that, i met and interviewed Willis O'Brien's widow who allowed me to take his photo album and have it copied. Lots of Kong pics.......but no Spider Pit😢. Those pic, btw, went to the editor of Fantastic Monsters Of The Films who somehow infuriated Mrs. O'Brien and the pics were never published. Then Vietnam came around and i lost touch with everyone, and everything. Then i saw this utooby! Now, i'm curious, was the armature in Fury's house back then round face, or long face? Thanks for the vid.
Me: "So Peter, could you imagine running into the Terminator, I'd be scared". Peter: "Oh that's only 14 feet away, and has live ammunition in the gun". Me: "No no no no no! Don't let that thing have real ammo!" Peter: "Oh it's okay, it's not plugged in. Oh so it is plugged in. It's just a prop, it's harmless". *Terminators eyes turn on and you smell smoke, as it slowly starts to walk*. @_@
As a stop-motion animator myself looking at these makes me so proud to be continuing the art form, and I'm so happy that the history is being conserved and appreciated by someone like Peter Jackson. Unfortunately I've never animated with a rig nearly as complicated as those beauties, but hey! Someday.
This armature is an amazing piece of art, we still make the armatures today following this principles. Thanks for letting us know that Petter preserve that piece from being lost in time. From a stop motion armature puppet maker.
Fantastic. I saw King Kong when I was about 8 and have remained completely and utterly thrilled by it ever since. The imagination and skill that went into bringing that wild fantasy to life.
Is that the monster from 20 Million Miles To Earth on the shelf above that? And he has both an original series Dalek, and the new series Dalek! I'd geek out so hard in that place you'd need to mop up afterwards.
Wow! Great to finally see a video detailing this model! I'm also noticing the Two-Headed Giant from "Jack the Giant Killer" (which actually uses some of the Kong fingers missing from this Kong armature!) on the shelf as well as the T-Rex from "Dinosaurus!". Didn't know Jackson owned so many of these armatures. Thanks for the great video!
In the making of King Kong 05 documentary, he said, "People always assume my life long ambition was LOTR, but it wan't. It was this movie (King Kong)>" and you can see it here. I've seen so many recent interviews with Jackson talking LOTR and he looks exhausted and bored. But here, talking monsters and Kong and stop motion, he seems alive and like a kid in a candy store! Love it. Mad respect for him.
Thank you so much for sharing this Adam, king kong was a start for me i think wondering "how do they do it? it looks so real" and your enthusiasm for film props is so so cool to follow. I grow up as a boy in the 70-s and 80-s watching these films fantasized... and to see you and Peter Jackson talking about this prop is epic. So how to sum up all this??? ...Tested rocks :)
Man the amount of just jaw dropping props and cool stuff between this shop and Adams shop is unbelievable. Wish I could get a tour of either of these shops one day. PS. On a side note, it's nice watching a video of Adam on HIS channel instead of the usual Norm video
"and here is my armature from the test shots of Legolas in the hobbit, running up falling stone blocks like a staircase before performing a triple suplex on an orc"
Nice that Jackson gives credit to the unsung hero, Marcel Delgado, the man who built (and maintained throughout production!) King Kong. This guy was so humble, no one knows he was involved but uncredited on several great films - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane, etc.!
This is Fantastic ! There was a fully functioning leather belted lathe in the machine shop where I worked in the 80s; it was said to have been used to make the armatures for King Kong. I have no way to substantiate this. The company was Leo Diner Films on Golden Gate Ave. in SF.
I'm just feeling satisfied that I guessed the second model was Mighty Joe Young before they said it was! Amazing history here, I'd love to see it in a public museum! thanks Tested.
I remember I saw an armature of Kong in the Museum of Moving Image (MOMI) in London, UK during the 1980’s…that had parts of the skin still attached; was that one of the ones you mentioned?
i remember in 90s PJ was one of my people. one of those guys only I knew about. Bad Taste on VHS. never thought he'd get so successful, but proud of his success. KONG 33 is also one of my faves. Just miss when he was this low budget unheard of director that only I knew about.
Amazing to see! Think of the artists who have lived and who invented the movie magic. Very nice to see and I was reminded what an exciting craftsmanship there is behind filmmaking. I want to see more, and it begins to itch in my own creating fingers. One often forgets the creation of everyday life but this video made me reflect on my own creation again. Thanks!
Guys? Why is this not 8 hours long? I can't find anything else on this? I see everything in the background and why the fuck am I not able to see everything? This collection is fucking insane.
I enjoy stop animation of armatures, but would also like to visit the studio of Aleksandr Petrov. He animates oil paintings that he creates on panes of glass.
There are replica kong armatures made by Sideshow .. sold out years ago but some pop up on Ebay from time to time . Almost exact and a prized possession of any movie / prop replica fan .
love these videos with Peter Jackson. I jumped at the end there when the music began. I was wearing headphones and it sounded like a fly near my ear ha
Peter Jackson should direct a "War Eagles" movie, I would watch that. Can you ask him if he has any of the puppets from "Meet the Feebles"? I love that movie.
If that really is the one thought to be lost after it was loaned out it was the one used to make an English fantasy movie Jack the giant killer in 1959 (Released in 1962) with Ray Harryhausen style effects to compete with the Ray Harryhausen Sinbad movies (they even hired the Sinbad director and three actors including the star hero and villain), they also took two fingers from the other armature. It was taken apart to make a two headed giant, another giant and other creatures. It may have been rebuilt with some replacement parts and have two fingers from the other armatures left hand
"War Eagles" would have been an amazing concept for a film. I wonder if any of his prototype scripts or storyboards survived, that'd be amazing to see.
One of my very earliest memories is of watching King Kong. Roughly 1973. I must've been four. I remember it terrified me so much I ran and hid behind our sofa. Subsequently every time it came on TV, my family would ask if they should pull the sofa out so I could hide behind it.
It's great to see how excited Peter is to show this stuff off. Truly a man who does what he loves.
Peter has such a pleasant voice to listen to. I love his accent
New Zealand accents are indeed very cool!
Except what Lucas did to Boba Fett.
Wut?
fush
und chups.
Nuw Zulund
I'd like to see another video going over his full collection. Would be amazing to be able to see what else is there.
I seem to remember them saying they shot a few of these when Adam first announced the collab on the podcast earlier this year.
Man, I want a full tour of Peter Jackson's Cave, preferably with Adam at his side!
Me too. I wanna see EVERY piece he has collected & found out wich movies & tv-shows they were used in. 💙
Perhaps as a documentry?
You could do hours and hours of material about Adam and Peter go through that collection. It should be TV-series and I'd pay to watch it.
Its probably locked behind Tested's paywall.
please, show us more of Peter's treasures!
He has a whole squadron of WW1 biplanes -- some real, some replicas, used in his movies.
+Jon Low
Don't forget that Peter owns some WW2 planes also.
yes!!!
I saw a full size Dalek in the background. It looked like one from the 70s or 80s. Would love the story on that!
Brien Malone yes!!!!
Peter Jackson and Adam are both amazing..
I went to the same high school as Peter Jackson, the guy's a legend!
I know a guy who was born on the same planet as Peter Jackson!
Tell us everything, starting with geek stuff.
Please do more of these make it a weekly thing its so amazing to watch you to geek over movie props
Thank you Tested. Keep em coming.
Some interesting JP stuff in that cabinet.
crocycro indeed Im holding out for that stuff!!
You have a mighty collection yourself ... I wonder if mr Jackson would be interested in your props ... like your John Arnold raptor bitten arm ?
They didn't show it :-|
Nice to see you here mate! Keep the JP props coming!

MORE! I want more of Peter's cave-so cool
malkavian5 look up Bob Burns man he has the full size Queen from aliens

like sure his recent movies haven't been the greatest but the man directed the greatest trilogy of all time, i still hold him in praise
You haven't lived until you have seen his seminal 'Bad Taste 1987'
My unpopular opinion: I really enjoyed The Hobbit trilogy, it wasn't Lord of the Rings, but I still enjoyed it.
and 'dead alive 1992'
Jobby Bones hmm I do fucking love Star wars but man lord of rings was just soo good, I'd have to put lotr like a 0.01% higher than Star Wars
No director is perfect...except maybe Tarkovsky. Even Fellini and Kubrick had some meh films.
"So Peter, where's the holy grail?"
"It's in my attic."
"I... I was only joking..."
XD
Me: "So Peter, could you imagine running into the Terminator, I'd be scared".
Peter: "Oh that's only 14 feet away, and has live ammunition in the gun".

fantastic.....I want that original dalek lurking at the back.......beautiful models
It's wonderful to hear how much passion for film Peter still has after all these years.
This armature is an amazing piece of art, we still make the armatures today following this principles. Thanks for letting us know that Petter preserve that piece from being lost in time. From a stop motion armature puppet maker.
loved his version
Fantastic. I saw King Kong when I was about 8 and have remained completely and utterly thrilled by it ever since. The imagination and skill that went into bringing that wild fantasy to life.
What incredible museum pieces!
A great service Adam has done here.
Is that the monster from 20 Million Miles To Earth on the shelf above that? And he has both an original series Dalek, and the new series Dalek! I'd geek out so hard in that place you'd need to mop up afterwards.
Peter seems like such a genuinely cool guy. Even though he works in the movie industry you can tell he's a fan at heart.
This should be a series.
I love how enthusiastic Peter Jackson is about these armatures.
I loved Peter Jackson's child-like excitement at the end of his explanations! Haha :)
That is a very special armature! Peter Jackson's explanation was excellent.
You can feel Adam's inner chill super exited looking at the prop and wanting to touch it at the beginning of the video
In the making of King Kong 05 documentary, he said, "People always assume my life long ambition was LOTR, but it wan't. It was this movie (King Kong)>" and you can see it here. 0:11 man, the Hunter Gratzner! My all time favorite spaceship design, I'm drooling with these videos!
The Kong armature was at the Car of Stars and planes of fame museum in California through at least the mid 70's I saw it many times.
I love watching these videos of two people just geeking about about things they love.
Freeze framing all the things in the background, some amazing stuff... I hope this is a series!.. do an episode on every shelf in that room.
Thanks for mentioning Bob Burns. He is a great guy and a true Monster Kid.
I love Peter and his films. Thank you for chance to See his great collection
Very cool. It's good to see Peter relaxed and enjoying himself showing Adam around. :)
maaaannn... so much talent... thanks tested for showing us this kind of stuff, keep on the good work guys!
That is a very cool piece to own. Its almost the holy grail.
Everybody has a cave :'<
Killer movie btw. Watched on TV, regrets hit me instantly, not having enjoyed that one in cinema back then.
Looking at King Kong's skeleton is like archaeology of cinema.
Please make these videos forever.
It would be good if you could show the images of the models in the movies
More Peter Jackson stuff, please :)
Marcel Delgado should probably get most of the credit for the creation of the metal skeleton technique
Thank you so much for sharing this Adam, king kong was a start for me i think wondering "how do they do it? it looks so real" and your enthusiasm for film props is so so cool to follow. Peter Jackson and Adam Savage. #legends
I could watch these two discuss that collection all day. Hope their is plenty more to come?
It's clear where Peter Jackson got a lot of his inspiration for all the set building and practical effects in the LOTR trilogy. Awesome!!
More videos with all his awesome props please!!!
I love the casual Dalek in the background xD
"and here is my armature from the test shots of Legolas in the hobbit, running up falling stone blocks like a staircase before performing a triple suplex on an orc"
Cssfiend I see what you did there :)
What did he do? I was looking the other way, please tell me!
WOW, great video. Thank you for sharing this with us?
Please more of this!!! What a wonderful collection!
this needs to be an entire series....going through Jackson's collection!!!
Peter Jackson's collection must contain some absolute gems.
Please do more prop collection videos! :)
I would happily watch a 10 min clip of him talking about every single item in his cave. Awesome.
could watch Adam walking through Peter's entire collection.
I'd love to see more of Peter's collection! How incredible :)

I would love to see more of his Stuffs
I could watch a whole network of just this, some of the best minds in the industry getting excited talking about something they love
OMG all the Aliens head are there !!!!
i love peter, he seems like a big child that never grown up
I really hope there is more footage from this visit. Please post more if you can!
I remember I saw an armature of Kong in the Museum of Moving Image (MOMI) in London, UK during the 1980’s…that had parts of the skin still attached; was that one of the ones you mentioned?
oh man after the NZ earthquake i hope his collection didn't get damaged
@@DoubleMonoLR ayyyy
That is one of the most beautiful shelves of movie memorabilia I've ever seen. I want to meet Peter simply so that I could talk with him about it.
i remember in 90s PJ was one of my people. one of those guys only I knew about. Bad Taste on VHS. never thought he'd get so successful, but proud of his success. KONG 33 is also one of my faves. Just miss when he was this low budget unheard of director that only I knew about.
Still waiting for War Eagles to hit theaters 😊

I want to see more, and it begins to itch in my own creating fingers. One often forgets the creation of everyday life but this video made me reflect on my own creation again. Thanks!
I think Adam now has another project (replica King Kong armature)
GooseFilms That'd be awesome! Sideshow Collectables came out with a replica some time back, but from what I've heard it was not suited for animation.
Guys? Why is this not 8 hours long? I can't find anything else on this? I see everything in the background and why the fuck am I not able to see everything? This collection is fucking insane.
very glad to see that there was more footage shot at the cave
ray harryhausen's first film work was on mighty joe young . i noticed Ray's Ymir maquette on the shelve about the kong armature .
MORE!
so much history on those shelfs!!
I see a Dalek. Man what a wonderful collection. I would love to see more of Peter Jackson's collection.
Jackson has two TV-used Daleks, one from the 70s,one from the 80s,as well as Sylvester McCoy's vest.
I could spend a month watching footage of ever relic Peter has in that room. Anyone notice that original Dalek in the background? wow
He's got two.
I enjoy stop animation of armatures, but would also like to visit the studio of Aleksandr Petrov. He animates oil paintings that he creates on panes of glass.
The Holy Grail of stop motion animation!
He paid £121,250 for that Kong armature in 2009...
Worth it!
That LOTR money
PA Replicas That seems a pretty amazing price for a piece of film history!
In 2009 I could have bought it. I would have been left with about 8 bucks, though. Well, you know Peter would have bid much more for this. Much more.
There are replica kong armatures made by Sideshow .. sold out years ago but some pop up on Ebay from time to time . Almost exact and a prized possession of any movie / prop replica fan .
I'm surprised Peter Jackson and Weta haven't opened a film museum - I would love to visit and see his incredible collection.
Awesome collection, I could spend hours checking it out.
love these videos with Peter Jackson. I jumped at the end there when the music began. I was wearing headphones and it sounded like a fly near my ear ha
Peter Jackson should direct a "War Eagles" movie, I would watch that. Can you ask him if he has any of the puppets from "Meet the Feebles"? I love that movie.
I think that's why I love tested, its nerds doing nerdy things that nerds, like me, love

2 big kids geeking out. Great fun.
Amazing, a treasure of history of the entertainment culture.
They are like 2 little kids , by the way the 2 movies they talk about are wicked cool classics a must watch!
"War Eagles" would have been an amazing concept for a film. I wonder if any of his prototype scripts or storyboards survived, that'd be amazing to see.

PLEASE GIVE US MORE!!!!
