Thanks so much for stopping by. Yes love this one. It had been a very long time since I was last on this trail so I wanted to go run it on the Tacoma. Its definitely a gem.
I grew up around there and went to High School in Amherst till 94. We use to go to Big Piney river every year on opening day of trout season. It is beautiful up there for sure.
Thank you for taking us along. Appreciate all the work that it took to do those exterior camera shots. Sure put things into perspective. Wonder how many times, over the years that I may have crossed that tunnel and didn't know it? Hope you and yours had a blessed Thanksgiving. Godspeed on your travels.
Thanks so much, my friend! Yes there are numerous hiking, ATV, and vehicle trails that utilize culverts to pass under the Parkway but most of the time the typical motorist driving the Parkway wouldn’t notice or know they are there. Its pretty neat. I sometimes have a passenger jump out and shoot video for me but often I set up a tripod. Either way it does require significant amount of time to set up but it makes a more enjoyable video to mix different points of view. Thanksgiving was great. I hope yours was too. Thank you so much!
Enjoyed the video, I'll have to ride with you,I'm not going to be able to take the Highlander on trails like that. Almost ready with the mini camp machine (04 Highlander) will be heading down to SW Virginia in it in June maybe we can meet up?!! Thanks for sharing your videos and take care my friend.
Thanks so much, my friend! Of course you can ride with me anytime. Yes this trail isn’t very difficult but your Highlander may not quite have the ground clearance for a few of those mud holes. Nice to hear you almost have it ready. Definitely would like to meet up with you when you come down. We been talking about it for several years lol
It was fun! This is one of my personal favorites. You could definitely run this without four wheel drive as long as you have some ground clearance. Thanks so much for checking it out!
Thanks for checking it out, my friend! I love this trail. You can run it in either direction, in fact most people do it in the opposite direction I did it in the video. It can be difficult to pass any oncoming traffic lol. This is how it is on the vast majority of our East Coast trails.
You do live in God's country!! That underpass was quite a contrast to the woods, but still pretty cool. Thanks for taking us along with you on the ride!
On trails like this, what happens if you meet oncoming vehicles? I’m sometimes uneasy on narrow gravel roads where there are wider places. Have a great weekend!
Thanks so much for checking it out, my friend. This is a great trail! I actually met some oncoming Jeeps while out there. Its easier than it looks in the video, but its not easy lol. Sometimes one vehicle has to back up until there is a wider place. When ever I’m driving a trail like this, even if I dont see anyone, I always make mental notes of spots where I could pass and keep them in mind until I find another suitable spot further down the trail. That way if I happen to meet someone and we cant pass, I know about how far it is back to a spot where we could. If its impossible to pass just have to talk with the other driver and come up with a plan. One way I avoid this is by planning my trips for days and times when I dont expect it to be crowded. Have a great weekend too, man!
Hey man there is one deep hole on the end of the trail close to the parkway (sadly I didnt capture it for the video) but unless its changed you can easily get around it on the side. Otherwise you shouldn’t have any problems. Thanks for checking out my video!
This trail did not close during the fire, which burned south of the James River. All the roads and trails in the actual burn area are now reopened. Enchanted Creek will close for winter sometime in early January. They didn’t give an exact date. I guess its just whenever an FS employee gets by there to shut the gates.
@@moe_rva1624 I was in 4wd the whole time but honestly didnt feel like I needed it. It was fairly dry at the time I shot this video. Its probably alot muddier and slippery now after all this rain. You’ll get better traction is you plan to go after its been dry for a while. Maybe go with another vehicle in case you do need a little nudge. Overall this road isnt that bad, but it has a few gnarly spots to watch for.
@@kevinstapleton9589 hey thanks for checking out my video. Don’t hold me to it but I think the road number is FR-1881. There are a couple of ways to access the trail directly from the Blue Ridge Parkway or you can start by crossing Enchanted Creek which is how it gets the unofficial name. The trail is currently closed though. The gates will open around early August, then close again by late December.
I was hoping someone would chime in. I dont feel good recommending it because I’m not familiar with how much clearance you have on the Crosstrek. That said you’d probably be ok on most of the trail but there are a few spots where you might drag or have issues if you don’t have enough clearance. If you can make it across the creek at the eastern trailhead then you’d probably be good to go. Traveling east to west like I did in the video, it gets a lot rougher after passing the tunnel. This trail gets very muddy even when its been dry for a while. Hope this info helped. Thanks for checking out my video.
I love this! You're really turning me towards getting a Toyota for my next truck!
Thanks so much for checking it out! This is my first Toyota, have had the truck little over three years and absolutely no regrets.
You're hitting all the good ones lately!

Thanks so much, my friend! I do remind myself all the time how truly blessed I am to live near so many spectacular places. I do love it here.
Reminds me of the book “One Second After” by William R. Forstchen.
Only about 40 minutes from there and still have not made it yet. Committing to doing it soon!
Thanks so much for checking out my video. You should go check it out, its a really fun trail.
Great video thanks again for sharing it

You think a stock 2nd gen tacoma with with falken at4ws could handle it

Is a full size truck too wide for parts of the trail?
Thanks for checking out my video. You might get some pinstripes in a few spots but I think you’d be fine.
Yea boi

Would a stock GX with AT tires be able to handle this?
Wonder if this trail is still open since the forest fire last month?
