What’s the The danish girl movie about?
In mid-1920s Copenhagen, the artist Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander from Pure and Tomb Raider) asks her husband Einar (Eddie Redmayne from My Week With Marylin and The theory of everything) to stand in for a female model who is late coming to pose for a painting she's working on. The act of posing as a female figure unmasks Einar's life-long gender identity as a woman, who names herself Lili Elbe. This sets off a progression, first tentative and then irreversible, of leaving behind the identity as Einar, which she has struggled to maintain all her life. They both relocate to Paris; Gerda's portraits of Lili in her feminine state attract serious attention from art dealers in a way that her previous portraiture had not. Gerda tracks down art dealer Hans Axgil (Matthias Schoenaerts from Loft and Rust and Bone), a childhood friend of Lili. As Lili's continued existence presenting as male becomes too much to bear, she starts to seek help from psychologists, but none yields any result, and almost leads her to being committed to an asylum. Eventually, at Hans's recommendation, Lili and Gerda meet Dr. Kurt Warnekros. He proposes a new, innovative, and controversial solution: male-to-female sex reassignment surgery. He warns Lili and Gerda that it is a very dangerous operation that has never been attempted before, and Lili would be one of the first to undergo it. Lili immediately agrees and, soon after, travels to Germany to begin the surgery. Lili eventually dies of complications from the surgery.

Despite what some people have said, this is one of Eddie Redmayne's best roles ever.
I’m pretty sure it is recorded through Gerda’s work that she was a lot more supportive of Lili than this. In fact she was thought to be a lesbian by some due to her painting some of the very first lesbian paintings
one of the many marvellous things about them (in real life) is how Gerda would consistently (and beautifully!) paint Lili in women's dresses - except photographs show that Lili continued to wear male clothing (or male-adjacent clothing) most of the time. of course, entirely possibly Lili wear dresses perhaps in private or to model for Gerda, but there's something so loving and tender, i think, of the way Gerda presented Lili in her paintings.
The two of them even moved to Paris where people were much more open minded at the time of people who were not conformed to societal norms

@@igortanaskovic2749 yeah!! To further connect things with history: doctor who did the surgeries to Lili was responsible for the institute of sexuality in Germany, which was closed by the Nazis. The doctor in charge of all these studies was chased out of Germany (escaped the Nazis).

From her journals it seems as if Lili might have been a split personality maybe im just saying.
Until we study brains and get far more exceptional in this department, we will never know if it’s a chemical imbalance, one day we will though as technology advances
It's not a chemical imbalance, trans peoples' brains just tend to match those of cisgender people of the gender they are transitioning to, they were literally born in the wrong bodies.
Evidence tell us that transsexualism exist in thousand of animal species TENS OF THOUSANDS… there’s quite a lot of research needed, but certainly not a “chemical imbalance”. One day, when science have advanced, we would have the truth that, Transger and Transexual people are a ABSOLUTELY NORMAL and BIOLOGICAL expression of the human condition.
This scene shatters me… so many LGBT people today doesn’t have access to proper treatment for transition. And many bigots “experts” explaining things here

I don't understand what they did to her or why it didn't work etc. I need to see this movie.
The gentleman is trans and experiences dysmorphia, he calls that side of himself Lili. The movie's time period is set in the 1920s, they have improper/lack of understanding of trans people and believe he is just physically/mentally ill and use radiation to try and 'heal' his ailment.

This movie is actually a Horror film about a wife who looses her husband to mental illness. People need God in there life otherwise there is no direction or moral standard.
