Just a recommendation, when you install that top piece, leave it loose because when you put the shotgun and put the tailgate down, you want that top piece to be at an angle when you tighten it. If you tighten that hex nut down the top piece straight up and down, it’s going to move overtime from the weight of the tailgate, and it will chip your paint and cause damage.

I did the OEM style that attaches behind the passenger side taillight. I’ve had it for a couple of years now, and the hydraulic cylinder is starting to get a little weak. Think I might try this one or the DeeZee when I change it.

Shouldn't be that loud. Seems it may be a faulty cylinder
