      @@tweer64Maybe a bit nitpicky but other creepypasta type shit like this specify the explicit file type being used like the archetypal .exe or jvk1166z.esp. Much like tupperware can mean really any type of food, a .zip file can mean any other file type is compressed in it. Could be a .jpg, .WAD, .json or whatever other file extensions you could think of.

      Well, usually the ZIP contains everything the mod needs to work, right? You unzip it and take everything out to set it up. By that logic, the mod - as a whole - is in the .ZIP file, right? It's just like saying "A ham sandwich in a tupperware container" even though the existence of the tupperware was implied by you having brought the sandwich in the first place.

    I one time watched a minecraft ARG coverage video about a dude who gets trapped in a loop in Minecraft. And I read a specific comment on that video that said something like "Imagine if there was an ARG about two guys who install a structure mod that adds in new structures, but there are strange new structures that aren't apart of the modpack and it's too late once they find out." This Minecraft ARG reminds me a lot like that.

None of that is mentioned here, which indicates that this is probably done without any funding of any kind from academia, the government, or by private enterprise. This is insane, so it's probably done by the personal funding of the researchers in their search for immortality. Plausible, but then how did they do the kidnapping in the first place? If they're willing to go around the world to alaska of all places, they clearly are able to get around paperwork of some kind, how? There is no clearance by anyone to do so.

    there's definitely a few things that just plain don't make sense with this story. Like… why does the mod send all these important files over to where their subject can read them? Why do the stone men appear in the subject's world if the only point of the mod is to find potential candidates for the project? Why does it post all those debug messages that can then tip off the potential candidate? Why even make stone men to house these people's bodies in the first place? Why do it in minecraft? Why play the sounds to the player?

      Im guessing the stonemen are meant to stay hidden but this specific one was able to be seen and heard from time to time and everytime the player looked away an automatic safe command runs trying to hide the statue again, hence why sometimes it causes errors and the chat mentions things its not supposed to

    • @BitrateBilly
      @BitrateBilly 24 дні тому +9

      im guessing its due to the extra .jar file in the mods, which is a fabric installer, given the timeframe there's a good chance the structure mod didnt update yet, meaning a code error in the fabric install caused it to bug out and make the text visible due to a debugging error, if those errors never happened, Ivan wouldn't have ever checked the files and discovered the dox information.

      The thing could be a way to see exactly how a subject would physically interact with being put into and being transferred between multiple computers, and also how it can send and recieve data, such as visual, auditory, and likely tactile (pain) senses, which would allow them to figure out how to manage that in a human mind while having people live in virtual worlds, like testing the waters especially when hotswitching between games, codes, engines like unity or unreal, etc.

      about the "why do it in minecraft" thing: i reasoned it out that the kidnappers need some sort of popular external program so that people won't be suspicious when they download it, and the kidnappers also needed a POPULAR program, both to capture a large amount of test subjects & to throw off police/investigations. after all, if a brand-new program came out & every single missing person used it, that's infinitely more suspicious than every victim playing a beloved, extremely popular game that countless other people have played

    This is some fantastic editing and scripting. Seriously, this was a treat to watch.
    The story itself kind of just okay, sadly. It has some potential with the stone man stuff but then it just shifted gears from the paranormal to a "secret society that kidnaps people" thing. If you're gonna do a underground research project, why use Minecraft as your main method? Aren't there better options? (Granted I guess your Minecraft world being haunted by Satan is equally questionable, but the paranormal need less explanation IMO).
    Also man sometimes I wonder how much of a pain it must be to decode thing after thing after thing just for one image.
    Cutting the ASCII code in half was clever and interesting, but then it devolved into "Decode binary to decode ASCII and morse to decode a spectrogram to decode binary again to get an imgur link to continue the story". Like man, where does it end? I wish more ARGs had actual puzzles like the cutting in half one, and finding details in the videos that grant hints that you piece together. Not decoding rabbit holes...

      at the very least, this one doesnt seem to curveball, it already tries to dox ivan near the start and clearly understands what its going for, i suppose it also makes sense to a degree why they'd use a Minecraft mod out of all things, its subtle, its random, they need fresh subjects, so getting a repository of info to a bunch of potential targets is a viable answer, the only reason why ivan even discovers the truth is cause the mod bugged out (probably due to that fabric version he used near the start), so what would've been a completely discreet mod that was hiding malicious code accidentally got revealed to him

    fun fact about 12:04 : "assets" is the folder that typically contains models, textures and sounds. It has structures. normally this would be in the "data" folder, which doesn't exist. furthermore, if assets was to be replaced with data, that still wouldn't be the right place for a .json file, as normally .nbt files would be there. .json files for structures are instead located in worldgen/structure(s)

    Super nice presentation and editing job for this video!!! Something that i'd have liked to see would be maybe at the end going over plotholes and such?
    As other comments have pointed out, the jump from "mysterious giant statues appearing in a mc world" to "People's consciousnesses are being trapped inside minecraft by a shadow organization" was a bit jarring, and during the video you did point out a lot of questions about what happened, so i was expecting that at the end all the hanging plot threads would be summarized. Like who uploaded the videos to the yt channel, and why is there a year of difference between the recording and upload dates, who put all the codes in the descriptions (And why would some shadow organization just hide data behind random chains of cipher like that) , why put digital consciousnesses inside of statues , and then somehow spread those statues across mod downloads online... I could go on, but I don't want to rag too much on someone's arg project like that
    I understand if you don't want this sort of negativity with your coverage videos, it's just something that popped in my mind during the video because you brought up some questions like that after analysing the videos , and its something I don't really see at all in ARG coverage videos. Of course its better for immersion to not keep deconstructing potential plotholes, but something at the end perhaps?
    Anyways tangent over, still your video's great, keep on doing what ur doing

    "What happens when someone creates a mod as bait? A lure? Designed to drag its victims to an untimely demise?"
    When my dad was younger he made cheats for multiplayer games, I forget which games specifically but I think a few of his cheats may have been for counterstrike 1 or something.
    Eventually he realized that the people downloading the cheats were people who just wanted to ruin other's fun, and he didn't like that. So before he stopped making cheats, he made a mod called "GODMODE" and put it on his site for people to download.
    All that the Godmode cheat did was fuck up the computer of whoever installed it.

    As soon as you said what VIR stood for (virtual immortality research foundation) I knew exactly what the plot was, that's how utterly generic it is.
    The stone men were being used as test subjects in order to figured out a way to import human conciseness into a computer to keep it alive forever.

    Thank you for making this video boss of Calamatis from the Calamity mod (I forgot his name)

  • @BitrateBilly
    @BitrateBilly 25 днів тому

    I think the reason why people are seeing a plot hole is because they arent noticing the version of fabric Ivan is using to run the mod: its an old build of fabric, the mod bugged out because the version he ran it on was wrong, so as a result error messages popped up when it shouldn't have.
