The cartridges had a peculiar design which was necessary for withstanding the violent cycling of the pistol. It produced a massive flash and vicious recoil. The captain in charge of the tests said "No one who fired once with the pistol wished to shoot it again." The British military was willing to consider adopting the design, but asked that it be scaled down. Gabbet-Fairfax, the designer, would not have it. For some reason he was absolutely determined that his semi-automatic be the most unpleasant thing to fire that it could be.

Same reason why no one adopt Desert Eagle in services.
