Please keep adding more episodes with Buddy if you can because that man was an absolute master of storytelling, jokes, faces, and impressions and I find myself chuckling for days after watching a new (to me) one of these! "Once upon a time..." 😂
My heart, how do I adore Buddy Hackett of blessed memory. He always reminded me of my Father of blessed memory, so extraordinary special. Buddy adored his family. G-d please make some more like this 👆🏻.
Buddy Hackett is one of Johnny’s favorite guests. He would crack Johnny up and sometimes made him very nervous with some of the jokes/stories he told. Many times buddy went over the top. I think he was the most censored guest ever on the Tonight Show with Johnny!
Buddy Hackett was like Rickles in that you never knew what he would say or do. Terrific storyteller. Johnny was great about letting them roll and not upstaging them.
@@iowaguy6470 Never heard that. He did a great show in the 80s called the Tim Conway Show. He was trying very hard to not break with Jonathan Winters on set.
Agreed. Johnny always got guests on who he trusted and could let them do their thing. His intuition never let him down, even if it was slightly off, it always made for a great show, because he was never far off. I so wish there would be someone with Johnny's calibre along with a pool of Hollywood talents nowadays to make another great talk show like this again.
I'm an English expatriate living in Germany but I've been to the States countless times & have many friends over there. America is genuinely unique as aside from Isreal it's the only country in the world were a Jewish comedian can be 100% Jewish on national television & come across as mainstream.
Hackett was to Johnny what Gilbert Gottfried was to Howard Stern. Frequent guest who the host adored, but definitely a love it-or-hate-it experience for the audience.
Buddy Hackett, as a comedian, was unique in what he had to offer. He was all about that New York Jewish smartass guy, that schmarmy sort of talk. He was also nuts; Check his story on Dean Martin's show where he's "going out to get a pizza pie". His live performances were what were expected unfiltered, so he had to edit for television. Off the air, he'd go at the studio audience loose, and that is why they broke up like he was the funniest man in the room, which he was.
I was doing a rock radio morning show on Cape Cod in 1990 and Buddy came by as a guest to promote his appearance at the CC Melody Tent. I reminded him beforehand that he needed to be careful with his language. Either he didn't hear me. Or he just didnt care.
They were all sharp- even if half in the bag, and went for the laugh like their lives depended on it. We'll never see the likes of Buddy Hackett again so this should be considered a 'cultural artifact.'
@@GrouchoMarx-MaGeorge that’s very astute. I remember as a child. Gil Hodges was the manager of the Mets and he was a combat vet in the south pacific during the second world war he died at 48. He looked 65 years old. That entire generation that saved the world had nothing handed to them, they worked for everything.
I never thought Buddy Hackett was funny in the least little bit. I loved Johnny but most of those comedians from that time. George Gobel, George Burns, all those guys from that time. Not Funny. Not that i was too young and didn't get the jokes, i got them, just not funny. What the hell is the audience laughing at? the Applause sign i guess.
He was so good in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World as well as The Love Bug. RIP, Buddy, until we see you again. - Hunter
Buddy was a force of nature. I had almost forgot just how funny he was.
Funny how?

LOVED every time Buddy was on. He was one of the Bluest comics of the era but could get away with so much because he came off as so loveable.
First saw Buddie for Herby The Love Bug . Was a fan since10 yrs old. One of the best movies for Kids
My dad took me to see Buddy Hackett in Atlanic City when I was 12. My mom was not pleased.
Lol. My grandparents walked out of a Redd Foxx show.
Maybe she wasn't but you and your dad were😂

Buddy Hackett had me laughing so hard I we my pants every time was on the Tonight Show !

Yes i have seen some things Buddy pulled through his career that would get you cancelled and shot today. 😂

Most Jews have this bad habit... disrespecting others and attacking them....their inferiority complex is deeply rooted
The cast of the Carol Burnett show never knew what Tim Conway was going to do. He always went off script

Best Groundhog voice ever! Best “Music Man” sidekick ever too!

He told the "pizza pie" story on his live show in Atlantic City, it was hilarious.

It's Scuttle the Seagull from The Little Mermaid!
That’s right! So just think of listening to this with your eyes closed and hearing the character!

He’s 48 here? And Johnny’s 47? Jeez, they could both pass for being in their 60s if this were today.
Johnny had a look of hard living.
They had the unfortunate time of living through WW2,I think I would of aged considerably beyond my years, too

Who are the comics that you do like ?
Rickles, Winters are Dangerfield are better and more entertaining guest than Hackett, let alone his childish and annoying voice;
So you're a Dumb and Dumber kind of guy i guess?
You lack imagination & context for what you are witnessing. For his time & place there was none finer than Hackett.
Buddy looks like a Buddha.
Too much liquor in the green room. Omg😮
