As a Canadian, I'm so proud of Mark McMorris. 3 Olympic bronze medals and now 22 X Games medals to go with it. He's earned that "Closer" nickname. Had me whooping and hollering in my living room. Congratulations, Mark!
The level this sport has come to is amazing! 900s and 1080s were top shelf and what these guys are doing now we could only see on PlayStation. It’s just epic!
Congrats to the top 3!!! Mark is a madman! Also one of the nicest and most humble dudes on the planet!!! One day Red will be able to get up there though, I believe in him for sure!!
@@zachnoetzel5028 I also feel that fact that X-games doesn’t limit the amount of riders per country and per event. Olympics has A LOT of pre-events after pre-pre-events over a 4 years long span. So in the end your o my fighting those that have been along that whole ride which severely limits the amounts of riders towards the actual Olympics. X-games is about who’s got the skills on that day to beat every other person present. The best person with the best skills on that weekend wins the gold.
I actually really likes Yiming Su's rail section. Specifically the thing he was doing on the first rail. Looks so cool! Not sure why that got no attention from the commentators
Also, not to be too much of a whiner, but Markus' 360 into a 50-50 is super impressive and they're just counting spins. So much more precise than landing boardslide or lip. And, Sven Thorgrens 50-50 transfer to lip (or board? I forget) is kind of wild too. It must be so easy to slip out trying to pull that transfer. I just don't get why commentators can't point out subtlties like these.
That rail butter is cute and smooth but it's not at the technical difficulty of any of the transfers or pullbacks or Red's boardslide through the elbow kink. Most of the riders in the field could probably stomp it first try. His other rails had messy exits and the slides weren't squared up. They've put a way bigger emphasis on jibbing than they used to so you can't just zeech into an early exit or scrub your landing and expect a 1620 to save you. I think it's tough for Craig to give an honest analysis of a weaker run like that without sounding like he's being too harsh (hung out with him a handful of times and he's genuinely the nicest guy, he just can't be mean).
The standard these guys have for themselves in unreal. At 12:30 Mark McMorris is legit bummed with such an amazing run because of one little bobble on a rail. Crazy
His last run definitely contested for 3rd , Shame to see ...he flipped 1620 whereas rooisland flat 16 ..rooisland killed rails more ..so tough but definitely 4th place , racism is apparent
You couldn’t stomp those landings any better. What’s crazier is that mark and Cleve have tricks still in the bag. The fact mark came from the flats is just mental.
Sick event. Couple of things i think would make it even better: 1. Get rid of the time thing and just give everyone 4 runs as they get that many anyway. 2. Show us the score. Makes it more exciting when you can see how close the riders are to each other on points. 3. Speed was a big issue and a reason why many runs got thrown away. Getting rid of one jump would allow riders to get more speed and airtime to do bigger tricks. It would also mean you dont have to throw away a run because of a small misstake.
Mark mcmorris said, wait a minute, this contest aint over yet. I got one more run. Unreal is right. That's why I always say it ain't over until it's over. Mark mcmorris turned on beast mode. Speed was definitely an issue today. I’ve noticed it typically always on this slope type course though. X games should consider stretching the course out a tad bit. It’s always unfortunate to see a perfectly solid run not be able to be finished due to just not having enough speed.
@@nebula1919191 what are you talking about? Nobody say anything about making anything bigger. We are talking about separating the jumps more this way people don’t have as much issues with speed.
@@nebula1919191 the jumps were to close to where people were struggling to even make it to the landing. If you separate the jumps more we would have seen more people be able to complete a run rather than having to skip the jump due to issues with speed. For argument sake, I was a professional for 2 years myself. I would rather over shoot a jump than too not make it, coming up short on a jump hurts far more than over shooting.
Sven with the quick revert.. negates the run yet I'm sitting here amazed cuz that looked awesome to me lol how can someone revert and keep that speed into the next jump is insane looked so smooth.

It's a little known knowledge tidbit, but a break in a bone can be an odd plus if it heals well in proper alignment and enough calcium is in the diet. The bone can in some cases come back even stronger than the original unbroken bone. It's only sprains and other injuries that damage the soft tissue like ligaments that can cause problems long term and reduce the ability of a person. Agreed that it's still impressive though. Psychologically, any injury like that tends to cause people to hold back afterwards.
Awesome event, but I'm really confused why x games is holding on to this jam format so much, the time aspect is completely irrelevant since they all get the same expected amount of runs. Just way less transparency in judging.
