      Strange, when my parents service entrance need replaced Hydro One reconnected it a few hours later. Maybe utility companies have different practices in Canada. Another reason I find that same day reconnecting is common is that if you had a 60 amp service previously they need to replace the overhead feed to your mast.

      @robertsitch1415 3 роки тому +1

      @@willschultz5452 yes the fact that overhead wires are air cooled is why they typically use thinner conductors than you would see on an underground 200 amp service. Maybe advance scheduling is why same day reconnecting is standard in Ontario, Canada. That and if there isn't a storm Hydro One has plenty of staff to preform maintenance and assist with service changes.

      Patrick Pikulski Through soffit makes this a mast service. The mast service here is required because of the clearance needed because of the height of the drip loops. The SEC's often have no overcurrent protection. Therefore, some people are stupid and would play on them.

    We had out 100 amp service upgraded to 200 amp several years ago and they also did ours 'hot'. The glove the guy wore were all rubber and of course he was on a fiberglass ladder. What I could not understand is how they was no sparking or arcing when the hot wire was attached to the metal connector and house side wire? I would have thought that when you touch the hot wire to the other wire it would spark or arc some.

Most stuff is rubber tape then 33+ ,if its 3/0 or 4/0 but when I do 350 or 500 or larger I use varnish tape heavily then rubber/friction tape then 33+ or super 88. Sometimes if it's in a trough or tight junction box I will use varnish then MASTIC PAD then rubber then the 33+ or super 88.

    You should air pressure and visual check them every time before you use them
    and if they are old gloves, don't trust them with your life.

    As there is no meter installed, those drops are all totally dead. In addition, the insspector would likely red tag the installation because the finish outer wall surface is not installed and it appears to be plain sheetrock. Here in California, you cannot secure a riser to a wall with the weather head so low and you cannot use PVC clamps to secure the riser to the wall above the panel. It also does not look like the entrance fitting is properly secured to the box with a lock nut.. In addition, if the POCO feeders are hot, the cover and blank meter space opening should be closed off with a proper insulation filler so nothing can accidently fall into the open and live meter base.

  • @hamiltonfurburger7767

    Dude you got all that nice new box and wires provided by a 75 year old insulator tensioned to a weathered 75 year old 1 inch board. Why do anything at all her since these overhead wires are going to pull loose off the board in 6 weeks. Why not just keep the old fuse box. What good is anything better if the rest of everything coming to it is not better as well. You can always upgrade from behind your upgrade later but upgrading in front of your upgrade later seems Cheezy.

    If an inspector passes that, he should be fired. The proper way to do this is notify your utility, have them cut the power at the pole, do your thing, have it inspected, and IF it passes, the utility should drop new service to the house and put their own NEC approved connections at the point of service entry. Many electricians call this a bootleg installation and inspectors (if doing their job right) would fail this. Most utilities will run a fresh new drop to the residence. It's part of their supply charge on their utility bill.

      its perfectly fine to keep the same drop, the wires are outdoors and cooled by the air. no problem.

    So much wrong with this hookup that i don't even know where to start. No attention was paid to overhead line clearance code. You cannot use that #0 Aluminium feeder to supply 200 amps. It's amateur hour here.

    3..No plastics caskets around the service connection?
    4..No hard hat.
    5..Pretty sure you gotta go thru the roof?? 10ft to the bottom of the drip loop???
    6..No cones or caution tape out to keep kids and people of your area.???

      this is only a service to a house 120/240 volt, you dont need all that, the gloves are fine

      Blankets for what??? I have never seen my power company use all that on the side of my house and I will trust them before I trust your advice. They work on high volt lines so I’m sure they know what to use and not need to use.
