I am so in love with your channel. Your content is so helpful and your voice is so soothing and I know I'm gonna binge watch your videos all night!!!!!
Love your channel I’m hoping to get into Optometry school at Midwestern AZ. I have a daughter but a strong support system, did any of your classmates have kids. Thank you
A lot of the college websites give planners of what kind of classes the students would take. it is super helpful to get an idea of what kind of classes you would take throughout the four years
Hey Megan! Could you do a video on what you scored on the OAT? And how to prepare for it? That would be very helpful!! And please explain what boards are.. lol
Hey! So I used Kaplan’s OAT prep which was super helpful! As of now, I don’t plan to make a video regarding the OAT because I took it over three years ago so it’s been awhile 😂 but if I ever get the time to do some research and feel that I can give fair and relevant advice, I will do so! Absolutely! So in order to get your optometry license, you must receive your optometry degree, as well as pass Parts 1, 2, and 3 of the NBEO (National Board of Examiners in Optometry) exams aka “boards”. You can visit the NBEO website (optometry.org) to learn more if you’re interested!
Hi, I'm an Optometry student in the Philippines and I know this is too much but is okay if I ask for some reference/notes for Optometry subjects? I'm really having a hard time finding notes in the internet and the notes given by our teachers are not really complete. If that's okay with you but it's fine if you can't. Thank you so much. 😁
I shadowed two different physical therapists, each only a few days a week for 1 week - just to get an idea of their daily life. I shadowed an optometrist for a few days a week for a full summer.
Nope! Optometry school is a graduate program. It’s 4 years dedicated to learning how to be a doctor. Lots of courses on treatment and management of diseases, optometric skills, and patient care.
No not too young! It’s important to do to make sure this is a career you’d like to pursue. You could ask to just come in one or two days, you don’t need to make it a weekly thing yet. If you enjoy it, let them know you’d like to come back in the future.
I want to apply to optometry school however due to personal circumstance of clinical depression; I didn’t receive the best grades and some classes were repeated; should I just quit and find a different career?
Hi Naila! I'm so sorry I'm just now seeing your comment! Optometry school is definitely challenging, but if it's something you're passionate about then I think you should go for it - at least try! If it ever feels like it's too much, it's okay to change your mind 🤍
Thank you! I looking interested in doing Optometry, unfortunately I don’t know much about it and basically you said shadow your optometrist, So i just ask them if I can shadow them they should okay with it? Idk im overthinking it! I’m trying to go back to college and focus on pre reqs for it! I currently working and transferring to work in pharmacy! Think its possible for me? 🤣
Hey! Yes you can definitely just ask your optometrist. Just explain that you’re interested in possibly pursuing optometry as a career and would love to shadow her or him for a day to see what their daily work life is like. If she or he doesn’t allow shadowing, reach out to another optometrist in your area, I guarantee you’ll be able to find someone that would be happy to have you. Go for it! You’ll never know if you never try 🤍
I am a pharmacy tech trying to figure out which healthcare career is right for me. I am so split. Optometry is an avenue I am considering. For sure I know it is NOT pharmacy. The place I work is toxic ans is making decision making painful at rhe moment. For now I just want out.
I’m so sorry to hear that! I hope you are able to leave soon and find something that makes you happy ❤️ if you’re considering optometry, I definitely recommend shadowing a few times to see if it’s something you could envision yourself doing! Best of luck xo
Hola, soy de Ecuador me gusto mucho tu video, hay cosas que todavía no entiendo en ingles podrías activar sub títulos en español por favor, de verdad muchas gracias por compartir toda esa información
Hey Megan it’s me again I know it has been a while since you have taken the OAT but I was wondering is it possible /or at all beneficial to apply before taking the OAT I have it scheduled in December but I would like to apply since I have all preqs and other requirements on OptomCAS. Any advice, thank you 🙏🏽 As far as can I apply before taking the OAT Do you think my application can be considered since I do have the OAT scheduled
Hey! I’m not positive but I think you can apply before, you’d just have to let the school know it’s scheduled and make sure they get the results to fully complete the application! Contact the admissions department of the schools you’re applying to directly, they should be able to give you an answer!
Megan Sales thank you I did reach out to my two schools and one replied and said they will note I’m taking the OAT in December. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the field for prospective students it’s really encouraging
I'm thinking about becoming a optometrist, I'm 14 so I have time...but I'm just wondering does the 8/9 years go fast, is it hard, and I just love your channel from Canada ❤
Optometry school is absolutely challenging but it has flown by for me! I know 8 years sounds like a lot of schooling (4 years undergrad + 4 years optometry school) but it’s completely worth it if this career is something you truly want to pursue and do for the rest of your life 🤍
Hi I was always interested in optometry ever since middle school and I have two questions: Is it alright if I can take the prerequisite courses for optometry school at a community college? My gpa for high school isn’t so great. I might end up with just a 3.0 gpa I suppose. But if I end up getting a good gpa for college from taking the prerequisite courses, will I still be able to make it into optometry school or no? (I am going to take the SAT and ACT next year by the way and I am studying for them.)
Every school is different but most have information online regarding the average scores they accept. I used my ACT score to get into undergrad. To get into optometry school, I took the OAT.
@@deepit9015 I don't think sat or act really matters for optometry school yet because those tests are just for getting into college. oat is the test you need to worry about for optometry school. So I would just focus on getting into college first.
can you please do a pros and cons of being an optometrist

I'm curious about the courses optometry students take year by year.

You say that you shadowed PT, PA & optometry. For how long did you shadow?
I shadowed two different physical therapists, each only a few days a week for 1 week - just to get an idea of their daily life. I shadowed an optometrist for a few days a week for a full summer.
@@megslifebelike thank you. That’s a great idea.
Is optometry school like a biology class or health class? What would it be like compared to a high school class
Nope! Optometry school is a graduate program. It’s 4 years dedicated to learning how to be a doctor. Lots of courses on treatment and management of diseases, optometric skills, and patient care.
Hi, I was just wondering if you get paid while you work your fourth year rotations?
Hi! No, I wish 😂
When should I start shadowing? I’m 16 and almost a junior in highschool would I be too young to shadow an optometrist?

most optometry schools only accept based on your undergrad, they won’t really consider your high school grades!
I didn’t take sat or act and had a 2.8 ans got accepted into a few 4 year colleges. You’re good babe
What SAT score would you need for optometry school?
I took the ACT so I honestly don’t know!
