    It's been mentioned there may be asbestos in these old bakelite handles. It is something to know. We're wet sanding and not creating dust to inhale. With no repeated exposure. That said, best not to dry sand these old handles just to be safe.

    Great video. I'll be using on my moms Revere Ware that I love.
    I have a kitchen full of copper and all I ever use is lemon & salt. Shines up beautifully! For my display only, I use a thin coat of Renaissance Wax and they stay shiny for ages.

    Great, helpful video! I have been collecting vintage, American-made Revereware and Farberware for a few years and have passed up perfectly nice pieces only because I did not know how to restore the handles, which were dishwasher-pitted and gray! Thank you so much for the help!

    My mom had a set in the 1960s, and she was so excited to get them, but then she realized they were pretty awful pots. The copper was so thin that it did nothing to distribute heat, and the stainless steel was also super thin and had hot spots that burned and stuck. She went back to using her heavy real copper pots shortly afterwards.

      Check out where I cut a Revere ware in half! :)

      @@xetaprime What an interesting video!! It explains exactly why these Revere Ware pots were so terrible. I remember my mom complaining about the pots heating unevenly and burning food, and my father who was an engineer looked at it and told her the quality was just crap. He said stainless doesn't distribute heat well. and the super thin layer of copper on the bottom was just a gimmick that did nothing to solve the heat distribution issue. She was so disappointed, because the real copper pots she had were so heavy, and she had been looking forward to lighter pots and pans. I remember she used a product called "Twinkle Copper Cleaner" to get the bottom of the Revere Ware shiny. It was a paste that she rubbed on with a wet sponge, and it worked like magic.
      The Farberware seems much better engineered, especially with the Aluminum bottom wrapping around the curve. So many pots don't have that, and that is exactly where things burn and stick. In my own experience, it's hard to beat classic All Clad D3 for weight, heat distribution, lack of warping, and longevity. And the cladding is the same throughout the entire pot, which prevents any hot spots. I don't think even the Germans have come up with anything better than All Clad, even if Fissler does make by far the very best pressure cookers.

    As tool junkie now getting into cookware, may I suggest a set of gunsmith screwdrivers (handle with interchangeable bits). The hollow ground design of the bits will reduce the chances of a carpenter's screwdriver buggering up the slots. Thanks for the content!

    Great video. Thanks for this. One of my Revere ware pots has many of these hairline scratches all over the outside. Looks like the old owner used a course pad or something. Is there anyway to take out all of these scratches?

    • @xetaprime
      @xetaprime  3 години тому

      Removing all the scratches would likely require a buffing machine. One option is to wet-sand with 400 or 800 grit horizontally which gives it a brushed steel look and hides the scratches very well.

    Most comments here are about prettying up the pots, what about the actual inside of Revere pots that are discolored/dark, rainbow streaking, etc. Are they safe for cooking
    after cleansing? Have several like that. Thanks for any help.

    • @xetaprime
      @xetaprime  Рік тому +1

      Discolored/dark? If you're talking burnt food just elbow grease using a Brillo pad. Boiling with water first to help loosen. Rainbow streaking is the easiest. Bar Keepers Friend has Oxalic acid in the ingredients and can pretty much wipe the rainbow effect away on contact.

    • @xetaprime

      If the copper is clean, but darkened I'll wipe on some Bar Keepers friend. Changes color almost immediately. If I want a mirror shine then I'll use mothers Mad aluminum polish. Mostly because that is what I always have at home. I'm sorry I can't speak for other polishes.

    I picked up a pre 1968 Revere Ware pan at a thrift store over the weekend that has some REALLY stubborn black cooked on stains on the copper. Have you ever used a fine grit sand paper on the copper bottom?? Any other suggestions? I've already used a bunch of Bar Keepers Friend.

      I just watched a video by today’s homeowner. He showed to bring vinegar and salt to almost boiling turn it off set the copper in it weigh it down if needed and let it sit for ten minutes. Should only need light scrubbing after that. I am about to try it on my revere ware I found at the thrift today. I’ll let you know if it works.

      Only thing I can think of is to find a mini flat screwdriver or similar to press between where the non-screw meets the handle, while turning the screw on the opposite side - to try and stop it from turning. Wish you luck!

      Hello Dallas. I just bought a couple of these Revere pots, and on one of them, I have the same problem, the screws just spin around. (The other pot was no problem....) I am still studying this, as my screws are stuck, and simple methods to keep them from spinning didn't work. And other measures, such as wedging in a small screw driver stand a high risk of damaging the very fragile bakelite handle........... I came to this video, HOPING to find that someone had asked this same question, and gotten a really cleaver solution. I'll post a reply IF I can figure this out.......

      Vintage Revere pans cook just fine for basic cooking. I have used them my whole adult life. I am no fancy cook though. They clean up well too. You can do easy tasks like hard boiled eggs, heat up soups, canned vegetables, make gravy and so on. Now that I am old I like that the pan is lightweight to use and clean.

      dating myself, i have these from my mom and we've been cooking and washing them all of my life. I''m sure there's better cookware these days, but they're heavier. They don't work with induction. So for ppl with arthritis of the hands, they are still my go-to.
