Thanks dude. My replacement alternator arrived for my CTS today. A guy told me he would put it on for me for $265 (which i thought was outlandish). But after seeing this video, i think i'm going to do it myself. I've taken apart my throttle body and intake manifold in my Expedition before and put it back together, so this is definitely alot easier than that. Thanks for the vid.
Very helpful. Successfully completed my CTS in 3 hours. Your video showed us non-mechanics how to get it done. Saved a lot of $ by not taking it to the shop. Thank you.
Just did it. Very simple and straight forward. About a 1 hour job tops, if you have all your tools ready. Don't forget a light. You ARE going to drop a bolt. Also, be very careful not to damage the ABS lines beneath the alternator. That would be costly. Thanks for the instructions.
thank you for this video, i am going to attempt changing out my alternator today. I am first going to test it by taking off the red batter cable while the car is running to see if it stops. If the car dies after taking off the red battery cable then i know for sure the alternator is bad. I think this test still works for cars, i know it used to work for my older 70's cars. But thank you for the video i hit the like button.
This test is not valid for a car like in this video. At the bare minimum you will need a voltage meter of some kind. Hopefully you figure it out! Let me know how it goes!
Very nice video,Mine is a 2011 model, had the battery tested,it was charging and stopped and started again, light still on,so for me its definitely the alternator, looking at all the videos I can, to look at different ways, learn from others mistakes as I say. You've been very helpful. Thanks
This is my first time seeing this video and i can tell you right now you made it look so easy to do. I've watched many vids and yours is by far the best. Thanks for making this video. I have a 2011. Is it the same steps
As of now the cost of this repair in Miami at the dealer with parts and labor is $1200 without tax. When you can find this alternator between $200-$300, I don’t see the justification for charging that much for labor on top. What an industry! Shame on Cadillac!
That wasn't the battery terminal, That was the junction for the battery positive cable that is UNFUSED from the battery location in the trunk to the front fuse block (primarily for the drive train systems). The battery should have been disconnected in the trunk first, and that cable/junction not touched) The battery in the trunk should have quick disconnect terminals that go on the battery from the factory.
Good video.....how ever. My 2011 cts did not have the little box thing and I did not have to remove air intake. DO NOT ATTEMPT wo a GEAR wrench. The bottom back bolt WILL NOT go back in place with the alternator mounted from the top bracket, you have to slide that bolt in 1st then mount. It may be possible someone did my alternator before and crossed the bolts but I put them back as they came out and there was no way to get that back bolt back in. It is a muther chucker.
I put a junkyard one in and it worked for about 3 weeks but couple days ago everything in my car flickered and my car died. Battery system error came up again, bought a refurbished Denso and now my error won't go away....battery is good too so idk what's the issue anymore
@@TheUA-camMechanic hey so found out there's a 200A fusible link on the cable coming off the alternator and I broke that case open to find a melted fuse....went and got a new mega fuse and now it works.
Hiring is rough. I hired one guy from indeed. He was alright with the skill side but had no character. My first guy was my cousin and he eventually got skill but he had no work ethic. My latest guy is a guy from church. The titles I use are "technician", "apprentice", "helper" depending on what's going on.

They have the magic so if you want the special dust you got to pay for it. Either that or learn magic yourself.
Thanks made the decision to do this myself easy
