It was until the “who’s gonna stop me” line in which it went back to just sounding like Jack Black. Still alright to me, but I wonder how consistent the voice will be in the movie.

Mario not sounding stereotypically Italian is a pretty common thing prior to the Charles Martinet performance becoming more or less solidified. His story is that he's an Italian-American plumber living in Brooklyn and ends up in the Mushroom Kingdom after falling through a pipe, but people seem to forget about that part.

Gotta say I prefer Pratt's voice and accent over the Mario tv show. That voice sounded too much like the gross Brooklyn plumbers or like that pizza porn guy people always parody

Only thing for me is the voices for Mario and maybe Luigi and how they don’t look exactly like they do in games Bowser and Toad look great, other than those it still looks worth watching

I could hear hints of a Brooklyn accent in Chris Pratt’s voice. Perhaps it will be more obvious in the film itself? Captain Lou Albano went for a Brooklyn accent for Mario, which makes sense considering that the show’s versions of Mario and Luigi came from Brooklyn! Also, keep in mind that New Donk City from Odyssey is heavily based off of NYC.
Honestly I can live with Chris and Charlie doing Brooklyn accents in this film.
Mario originally comes from Brooklyn, calling back to his "Donkey Kong"/"Jumpman" days!
This is exactly what I’m saying. Plus, looks like the dialogue was redone for the scenes in the trailer considering when Toad pops out and scares Mario, we see Mario obviously yell but we don’t hear it.
you can definitely hear Mario has an accent, but Chris isn't heavy on it. which is fine, he doesn't need to overly accentuate the Italian accent to make it be like Mario himself.

The animation is looking AMAZING!! Even by illumination standards. Honestly I really hope this movie is gonna be successful that we might get a smash bros movie down the line. Overall jack black is killing it soo far as bowser and I love it 😂

@@TheRibottoStudios not to mention the humor soo far is giving me Mitchells vs the machines vibes which is great as well. It’s great that Nintendo decided to actually oversee this project because if they didn’t I feel like this would’ve looked ENTIRELY different. Soo far I’m hyped for this

People are forgetting that the Mario Bros. are also from Brooklyn, New York as depicted in the old Mario cartoons and other media. That's probably why he doesn't have that accent.

The original Mario plot, Mario is an Italian American from Brooklyn and was a plumber. He fell down a pipe and somehow ended up in the mushroom kingdom. The movie looks like it's following the original plot

Hearing how Pratt delivered the "Mushroom Kingdom, here I come!" line, it seems the movie is using the Brooklynn origin for Mario and Luigi, rather than them being native to this world.
I already know Bowser is gonna be the star of the movie and Im here for it

When I first heard the people who created Teen Titans Go were directing this movie I was absolutely flabbergasted after watching the trailer.. like how the heck did they manage this?
To be fair Mario is from Brooklyn and has a Brooklyn accent and he sounds like the 1970’s animation mario. To be fair I think chris patt sounds perfectly fine and doesn’t need a change.
There were other variations of Mario where he spoke in a New York accent like in Hotel Mario. Most of them were tv shows. I think Pratt is doing a New Yorker accent

They aren’t doing an Italian accent for this one,they are doing a New York/Brooklyn accent because Mario is canonical FROM BROOKLYN
Am i the only who thinks Chris Pratt’s Mario is just fine? I think bc Charles’s version is so ingrained in our minds that anyone else who voices him automatically turns us off. Pratt’s voice works better for an entire full length movie with a ton of dialogue in my opinion

I don’t mind Pratt’s voice, we’ve never heard Mario actually talking for long amounts of time so it would lose its charming aspect quickly if that was the voice, and the New Yorker thing if done too hard would become unpleasing for this type of World
BUT, I do hope and slightly believe that as we get deeper into the movie he will sound more like Mario as he becomes less of a random plumber that was dropped here and more of an iconic character that saves this kingdom, similar to Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic movie but way earlier

The original VA for Mario said in an interview a few years back that he’s having trouble keeping the voices up for extended periods of time, which explains why he isn’t voicing Mario.

Bruh, I lost it when the captions said “I’m sorry” after Dwayne started freaking out over Mario’s voice.
Honestly im find with his voice, i dont think we need the heavy accent tbh, it might make it hard to understand him. I hope people dont hate on this amazingly animated movie over the voice. It would be funny if he attempts a heavy accent at some point though 😂
I'm here for it, I am here for every second of it!!! I don't have a single negative thing to say about that trailer. The voices are on point, the story line is on point, and it seems to be the right amount of laughter in it. Just an overall happy, funny, good hearted family movie. Like Jasmine I love movies like this, so I'm excited for it. This is definitely a pre summer movie for the entire family. I already see myself taking my nieces and nephews to the theater to see it.
So the funny thing is in the comics and probably some other forms of media, Mario and Luigi are actually New Yorkers and they went to the Mushroom Kingdom on accident and were chosen to save the mushroom kingdom. Looks like they are using that concept in the movie as well, which imo is a pretty good strat.
I can't wait for the new Super Mario Bros Movie. I'm so excited

This movie is absolutely amazing man! Can’t wait to see more of it and it seems illumination is doing a great job!! I know Chris Pratt seemed like he didn’t do the Mario voice well, but I think it was ok or decent but we have to wait for him to keep voicing Mario in the upcoming trailers! He might change his voice who knows, but overall, I give this teaser trailer 9.5 mushrooms out of 10. Or 10 mushrooms, idk
If you look at the cast at the end it includes Charles Martinet the original mario voice actor. Probably means Mario's voice will evolve to his iconic voice throughout the movie.
It's already confirmed that Martinet is just appearing in cameo roles.

Tbf with the voice the Mario Bros are from Brooklyn & he was originally a carpenter before a plumber, so this could be an origin story & they pull a Dr. Robotnik where he goes from mostly human to more video game-accurate later.
I think something people are missing when it comes to the mario voice is that we cannot have mario's regular voice for a 90 minute movie. That's not happening, stop asking. Charles Martinet is great and his mario voice is fantastic but for a, again, 90 minute movie we need a voice that can be easily understood and audible. The accent can't be too thick. I think Pratt is doing a fine job and people are jumping to conclusions.

This would have blown 10 year old new Mind! About his accent… I don’t think we really have heard enough to have a final opinion, I also feel like we will get used to having a “weaker” accent
If you’re talking about Mario, it’s been stated that they aren’t over exaggerating it, but they are going more so back to Mario’s very early history where it is stated that he and Luigi are from Brooklyn so it does make more sense for a Brooklyn accent to keep to the roots.

I love what I saw and heard. I'm gonna wait till the actual trailer to hear what Chris can really do the voice. If the voice doesn't work in the trailer then worry but as a person that watched the og Mario Bros live action movie , the Super show and Super Mario Bros 3 animated show. This movie will be fine
So think about Mario, Originally, he was from Brooklyn, so I think he sounds fine so far. Sides, I honestly do prefer this voice over the Martinet voice in the context of a movie. What is great in a game where the character just says two words at most, doesn't always translate as well in a movie.
