McFarlane DC Multiverse line Superman 1978 Figure - A Must Buy?

- Опубліковано 18 жов 2024
- McFarlane Toys debuted its DC Multiverse Collector Edition Superman 1978 based off of Christopher Reeve's iconic first time as The Man of Steel. The figure is mostly good, but there's a few things off. I break them down along with my immediate wish list for future figures.
This is the Superman figure I need to get. Now bring on Lynda Carter Wonder Woman.
Absolutely!!
Wasn't there already a Lynda Carter Wonder Woman figure that came out a few years ago?
@endwigast5212 That was from Mattel, not McFarlane. And it was towards the end of them having the DC license.
@@jordanmitchell380 Still, that Lynda Carter figure was from only a few years back and was well made. Why would McFarlane need to duplicate that effort?
@@endwigast5212 1. New collectors who missed out. And 2. Older collectors who like their figures to perfectly match in style, height, articulation, packaging layout, as well as manufacturer, you know, ... Nerds!😁 I meant "completeist"🤨
LoL. I love my brothers 😁. We ALL know why we're here. I am not a completeist, but I do love uniform boxes and Todd keeps it consistent.
Peace. One Love. Bless up.
When a friend sent me the pic, despite saying no movie figures, this is a definite yes. A Linda Carter WW or even a CBS Shazam would be a cool addition to a Burt Ward in a DC TV version
We really need a Robin!
Superman 78 is very good! I can overlook the cuffs, tho we shouldn't have too! Head sculpt looks great and the proportions look really accurate as well. You're absolutely right, this is a must buy! I just wish we had an alternate head of him smiling. Christopher Reeve had an unforgettably iconic smile!
That is true. Course this probably won't be the only Superman Reeve figure that we get. :-)
@@LylesFigureFiles somebody who is usually spot-on with his McFarlane leaks has said there is indeed another Christopher Reeve Superman coming and that version will be the evil one.
There's also the Superman '78 comic Page-Punchers version coming which is based on Reeve Superman.
He’s holding the green master crystal he uses in the Fortress of Solitude
Thank you!
Oh and I'm SO down to have a 1970's DC Trinity on my shelf! Good Call!
Yessir!!
"You've got me?!? Whose got YOU?!?"
Classic line!
I don't really collect the live action stuff but I'm definitely getting this
It's definitely hitting a lot of collectors different. huh?
Ok, I may have to break my DC Multiverse embargo for THIS figure! This is looking really good! Wow... 😮
Yeah man, come on in.
The break on the torso is an absolutely God awful. The likeness also leaves much to be desired and although i like the cloth cape, I can't justify putting this on my shelf, but I'm happy for those who love it.
The green crystal in his hand is the main crystal that he had that built the fortress in the movie. It's the main crystal that he also used to call his dad back and restore his powers during the 2nd movie in the Donner cut.
I've watched that Donner cut one time. For all the buildup, I definitely preferred the one I'd watched 50 times previously.
@@LylesFigureFiles Something to be said for the nostalgia of the original. The Donner cut had a mountain to climb.
Wow! Superman looks really fun. Mr. Terrific looks good also, and I’m not really a fan of that character. Todd is really impressing me.
Aww man, have you read Mr. Terrific in JSA? Geoff Johns wrote him so well!
Probably the most anticipated figure McFarlane toys will ever produce, I really hope they make enough for anyone that wants at least one can get one at retail price!... none of this platinum chase bullshit that you have to go through a scalper to get a hold of!
Seems like he's still available at some sites so that's an encouraging sign.
The Crystal which allows him to talk to his father Jor-El... awesome. 😎😎❤️❤️
Good call!
I'm that guy. I will get this one. My favorite Superman 🦸♀️
Mine too!
Superman 2 one of the best!!
For sure. Never get tired of watching it!
That hand is grabbing the green crystal when Superman's inside the Fortress of Solitude. When I first saw this figure I started thinking that this would set the ball rolling for more figures from the Superman movies franchise including Jor-El and his wife, Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, the three villains from Superman II, evil Superman and maybe a Fortress of Solitude playset. Thank you for sharing. Greetings from Malta.
I would buy so many of those Superman supporting characters and villains it would be nuts! Thanks so much for watching!
I normally don’t get Supermen toys. But this one is a must have
It's a really nice figure!
I can feel it. Evil Superman III variant. It's gonna happen.
Nuclear Man for part iv.
With pop up red kryptonite claws!😄
@@protolegacy9184 the additional head sculpt is an evil Supes
That would be so much fun!
That Reeve Superman is awesome, but yeah, the gap is a little distracting. Still cool though.
I think the ab gap is to aid with flying poses.
This is the Superman figure I need.
Me too!
Lyle, c’mon man!!! He is holding the crystal he originally threw to make the fortress of solitude!!!
It's been way too long, but I didn't remember him having that while he was in costume. -- Jeffrey Lyles
@@LylesFigureFiles he also uses that crystal to get his powers back in part 2
@@LylesFigureFilesin part 2 he shows it to Lois
I want this Superman action figure My father brought me to see this movie back at 1978 2 days before my fourth birthday.
That's an awesome memory! Always enjoy hearing people's connections with pop culture icons.
I see a lot of pins. Really shows in that light blue plastic.
yeah, most other companies have moved past that ugliness.
I am so excited for this figure! It ain't perfect but it was a nostalgia shot right on my heart haha!
I know I might be in the minority here but I wish we could get the 2 Brandon Routh figures (Returns & Kingdom Come).
Great video man, new sub here!
Thanks so much! Really appreciate that. I'd be down for both of those Brandon Routh figures you mentioned. Wonder if Todd would commit to doing more Arrowverse waves?
@@LylesFigureFiles Yes!! Tbh I don't think that he'll ever do that, like I mean, particularly the Brandon figures I don't see that happening, not in a very long time at least, but hope never dies haha!
Love.
Please mcfarlane give us Phantom Zone Zod, Ursa and Non. Also Helen Supergirl.
Yep, I'll take ALL of them!
Hey Jeffery, got my Superman and GL preordered, hope you were able to get yours ordered.
I got all the stuff I needed to get today. Not looking forward to platinum chasing McFarlane figures, but what can you do? Glad you got your stuff!
FINALLY. Now we need a platinum in that green bizarro suit. Also bring on a gene hackman lex luthor
Green Bizarro suit?
@LylesFigureFiles when he was evil superman and put Clark in the car compactor. My bad it wasn't green. Maybe it was on the old school tv I saw it on
I had my confirmation at 12:02 super excited for this figure
Nice! Congrats!
Awesome Video Bro👍❤, I have already pre-ordered mine from my local seller here in Malaysia🥳💙💛❤👍
Thank you so much for watching my friend! Hope you enjoy the figure!
@@LylesFigureFiles 🙏😊❤👍
This is a must have EASILY, SUPES 's 78 is my childhood favorite
It's such a nice-looking figure.
Just give me Linda Carter now.
Yessir!
Someone said there’s going to be a chase variant, any idea what the chase would be?
Still trying to figure that out!
maybe Superman 3 'evil' Supes?
Awesome looking figure. Now we need an accurate Michael Keeton Batman from 1989. 🙏🏼
I suppose that's coming with Batman Returns supposedly the next Batman movie wave coming.
I would like to see action figures of General Zod, Ursa, and Non from Superman 2 plus Supergirl 84 (Helen Slater). Cross my fingers!🤞
You're definitely not the only one!
We most definitely need the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman
Didn't a Lynda Carter Wonder Woman figure already come out a few years ago?
@@endwigast5212 For the Batman 66 line, maybe? I forget
@@BatFan1 No, no... There was a Lynda Carter Wonder Woman figure that was released by Mattel under the DC Multiverse line, before the toy rights shifted over to McFarlane.
@@endwigast5212 right, they did, but I thought you were referring to McFarlane, they did release a WW in the Batman 66 line, didn't quite look like LC though
@@BatFan1 Oh wow, I wasn't aware of the Wonder Woman from the McFarlane Batman 66 line, but I googled it just now. The costume looks accurate, but you're right... the face doesn't look like Lynda Carter!
Definitely picking up a couple of these. Now hopefully we can also get a Brandon Routh Superman too
I'd like to get a version of him as well.
"You'll believe a man can fly."🦸🏽♂️
I'm an old fart so I get the reference. That was on the movie poster if my memory is working this morning
I pre-order mine in the summer I can't wait to receive it
I'm with you!
@@LylesFigureFiles can't wait to see the clark kent version
I think Mezco will be the only one in my collection. These joint and cuff are throwing me off.
Personally the McFarlane Chris Reeve figure would go well with my Neca Michael Keaton Batman figure as well as the other Neca figures of terminator, robocop, back to the future, Rambo and Rocky, etc.
Did you get the Green Lantern figures as well?
I hope the Phoenix Joker from Joker 2019 gets a standard release without having to get Marie Franklin. And he comes with a bloody smile just like at the end of the movie
Maybe?
I’m obviously going for Christopher Reeve Superman! Michael Keaton Batman is part of the movie series superhero’s man! Michael Keaton is my Batman, I saw him in 89-92 and it Crushed me that they killed him in Flash.
Who would be your Wonder Woman for this one?
The hand looks like it’s holding the crystal shard from the fortress of solitude. The memory banks of Krypton. I wish McFarlane also gave us the stand the shard went into. Make it happen for some more of that line Jeff. We also need a Burt Wars Robin and Linda Carter WW. Send some hints to McFarlane. I think they said they were making The TV Wonder Woman. I saw it somewhere online.
I'd love to see the TV Wonder Woman!
yo Nuclear Man from Superman 4: The Quest for Peace would be dope.
Todd would probably make it just fun enough that I'd actually want him.
I'm just hoping for a 1960s tv Robin
Me too!
Excellent job braski! Otisburg!?!
Appreciate it!
The best thing about the preorders. Its on a payday week
The BEST thing!
He looks like a cyborg with all the articulation points. That green crystal is what gives him his powers back after losing them. And he constructed the fortress of solitude with that crystal. What are the figures you have behind you of the justice league? Are they action figures or some type of statue? Need to know the name, thank you
Those are McFarlane's DC Multiverse line.
Happy Tuesday, Sir Jeff! 🖖🏽
Hope your week is going well my friend!
Yeah I picked this guy up..had to have it.
Absolutely!
Do we know what time the Christopher Reeve will be available?
Entertainment Earth still has it available: ee.toys/98H8EM
Gotta get this one!II'm that occasional McFarlane collector youre talking about. A few years ago I though I would never start in on his line but they are looking better and better. Love the Adam West Batman! How about a Shazam from the late 70s live action on TV?? BTW is that Shazam in Alex Ross's art Greg from the Brady Bunch?? He often uses celebrities from old movies and TV in his art.
@@blaketarpley8174 in the notes in the Kingdom Come collected edition, Alex Ross said that his version of Shazam is based on one of his friends.
@blaketarpley8174 That Captain Marvel in the Alex Ross art that was shown was played by Garret Craig in the LEGENDS OF SUPERHEROES specials.
I think my favorites of his celebrities for hero stand-ins was Timothy Dalton for Tony Stark and the Professor from Gilligan's Island as Reed Richards.
I guess they're not including a flight stand? Although sometimes it's difficult to tell and can be an unexpected surprise. Would've been nice to have a stackable crystal piece for the FoS like 8:38, similar to how they had stacks of money for heath's joker fig.
Also, if Todd did multiple bizarros, then I'd expect for him to reuse this mold for a dinghy suited, 5 o'clock shadowed supes sometime down the line. So I wouldn't hold too tightly to your 4:08 take.
I'm hoping we get some of those Superman 3 characters.
I have the Mezco and I think I’m good. I do like that he’s doing cloth capes. I don’t like my figure’s being parking cones.
That Mezco is a tough one to beat.
SUPER TUESDAY!
The Christopher Reeves Superman looks pretty good, but... no corners should have been with the mold (wrist cuffs). IMHO
Yeah, not loving the cuffs but otherwise happy with it!
Reeve, not Reeves. Chris disliked it when people got his last name wrong.
Depends on price. I dig it but under 100 would be cool
Just $30
Hopefully McFarlane Toys will also release a 1/6 posed Superman Christopher Reeve statue as well!
I've gotta assume so. That would be throwing money away at this point.
@@LylesFigureFiles
My cabinets are hungry for more Christopher Reeve Superman collectables! 😂
That’s definitely one of those crystals he plugs in to talk to Marlon Brando 😂
Thanks!
I am happy but disappointed with the inside information I got... they were going to go all out giving him a special box, a cloth suit and a special flying stand but due to time they couldn't do it...also a fortress of solitude was being made that was going to be MTS exclusive but again couldn't due to time
That's the downside of getting some insider information, I guess. You could still get the Mezco One:12 and that has parts of the Fortress base.
Hey my friend that is the kyptonite Crystal her uses to communicate with Jor-el
Thank you! Wasn't sure based off that one image.
#24 of the collectors editions is the only one not announced yet and I'm hoping its Geoforce
That would be cool for sure!
How much is this gonna be ?
$30 - available at Entertainment Earth still: ee.toys/98H8EM
Looks good but too make it great Farlane has to get rid of the Pins.
About time!
Exactly! :-)
Same thought as soon as I saw Mr Reeves’ Supes was “okay, so when are we getting the Linda Carter’ Wonder Woman?” and if we’re being truly generous, when are we getting the awesome Supergirl from that terrible movie?
I wouldn't mind that Helen Slater Supergirl figure, either.
So tired of them new 52 cuffs on every Superman . I'm done with the toddfather till he at least gets the basic stuff right Like the cape , the cuffs , belt and boots. Here's hoping mafex steps up to the plate 😅 as far as this figure goes, I'll only get him if he hits a clearance, and I don't see that happening
Probably no clearance here. Maybe Mafex will get you covered?
Would it have been that hard for Todd to just use smooth forearms instead of cuffed ones I mean really?…. Other than that and the likeness being a little off it’s a decent figure of Christopher Reeve’s Superman.
I'm confused with the cuffs and the boot reuse.
I'm gonna NEED this one. Not WANT. NEED! When?? is this up for pre-order and where??? McFarlane or Walmart or both??
Hopefully you caught my posts with the pre-order info.
McF must have some new sculptors 😂😂😂
LOL. It does look good.
Fortress of Solitude set for superman 78!?🤔
It could be a game changing idea.😄💡
I hope McFarlane makes😁 one in those upcoming months ahead.
It's wishful thinking.🙂
🦸♂🦸♂🦸♂🦸♂🦸♂👍
Eh, Todd has been doing some surprising things. it's not out of the realm of possibility.
Why stop at 2? I'd buy a Richard Pryor figure from Superman 3.
I'd happily take Gus Gorman!
Please can somebody tell me who is selling this figure? I keep asking and no one has any. Official answer
Well, they don’t answer me at all 😂
It's everywhere. Amazon, BBTS, Entertainment Earth, Gamestop. Here's the EE code: ee.toys/98H8EM
*NOT FOR ME... DO NOT LIKE THE HUGE CUT IN THE MIDSECTION FOR A MOVING PIVOT POINT.... WHY???.... IT LOOKS LIKE HE IS WEARING A HALF SHIRT....NOT A FAN OF ALL THESE TYPE OF ARTICULATION THEY MADE ON THESE MODERN FIGURES... FACT*
GOTCHA.
Not digging the cuffs, the chest articulation(I hate that!), the insignia should be painted on the figure, not a plaque like the Brandon Routh costume, and the likeness looks more like Christopher Dennis than Reeve. I might get it if I can find it. We'll see.
With all those issues, you'd still consider buying it?
@@LylesFigureFiles Pretty much.
Why an ab joint??? This is not necessary.
Maybe it helps with flying poses?
The neca Christopher Reeves superman body is better than the McFarlane body
No need for you to buy another Reeve Superman figure :-)
If I'm being honest this prototype looks cheap. Hope it's refined before release
I always appreciate honesty here.
No way this is sad this looks like trash omg this figure has to way to much of breaking up important sections of the anatomy of the figure he definitely missed leg day his calves is ridiculously to little i mean wtf this looks like something you can buy from the dollar store Christopher Reeves deserve much more respect than this Todd this is sad.
It's not for everyone for sure.
Your right I'm in that camp of not for me.
Nothing McFarlane puts out is any kind of buy. Overpriced at $1.
:-)
lol when your too much of a fan … you over look things… 😂🤣😂🤣 most people can see that figure a lil weird
It looks kinda cheap and tacky to be honest. Not impressed with it at all. The NECA figure from almost a decade ago is superior if a bit dated.
Does it come with a horse and a tree?
???
la division de la articulacion del torso y el abdomen se ve NEFASTA!!!!
Not a fan, huh?
Garbage!
It's not for everyone.
