Great vid. Just picked up a yellow one yesterday - Love it! Already modded the lights (bye bye turn signals, hello bright white headlights!). I've reversed the screws on the steering knuckle, but haven't done the tie rod yet. One thing to note for anyone doing this bend, the tie rod ends will need to be adjusted to compensate for the shorter linear distance between the knuckles. Bending the tie rod will have the toe on both tires out of alignment. I haven't taken mine apart yet, but I'm assuming that these are like any other RC car and screw in and out. Be sure to center your servo trim before making any adjustments! :)
I have one of these arriving tomorrow. I'm definitely ordering those wheels for it with different tires because I like the look of the mud tires. I can't wait to mod it. I was at a hobby store today and the guy behind the counter had a built TRX4M with rear wheel steering. I went into the store to look at 1/10 crawlers and ended buying a FCX18.
Excellent, it's an awesome little rig, definitely one of the best value mini crawlers you can get right now, especially if you like a nice scale body. 👍😎 Hope you like it. I'd recommend the Injora Swamp Claws, really good on the rocks and awesome in the mud. 👍
@@DoURC I already ordered. I got the same wheels with AT super s5 king trekker. It was kind of a package deal. I'm also looking at the injora 45mm shocks and drive shafts.
@failsworth655 Excellent, sounds like some nice upgrades there. I'd definitely try out the stock shocks before changing them. Once you add heavier wheels it does work the suspension more. 👍
@@DoURC I got my FCX18 and this thing is so rad! Mine came with black links instead of silver. I'm not sure why. I wish they weren't black but I guess I can paint them whatever color I want now.
TRX4M is still a good rig, especially with upgrades. The FCX18 is really good, I'd say its got to be the best or one of the best mini crawlers available right now. 👍
@@DoURC I'm a complete newbie who got into RCs because I got myself and my son cheap supermarket toy store ones last Christmas, but how would one manage to 'vent' these tyres? I've been doing a bit of research and this and the TRX4M stood out the most. I'm looking for a mostly stock but maybe will look into mods and aftermarket parts once I get comfortable.
@ryannacario7849 There's two options really, either use wheels that are vented or put little pin holes in the tyres. You don't want to vent them if getting them wet though, as it'll ruin the foams. 👍 I've got a comparison video of the trx4m and fcx18 in my Mini Crawlers playlist. I'd also suggest considering the FMS FCX24 as well. 👍
@@DoURC How do these tires compare to an Injora or scrambler tread replica tire? These look to hook great. I want my fcx 18 to be a nice trail rig with decent crawling. Will mod the suspension and add brass wheels as well. Just curious before i pull the trigger on tires.
Thanks very much 👍 Yeah Injora 1.0 plus and all -3.75mm offset. Mine have been fine so far, only used them for a few months so not sure on longer term use. 👍
I know this is an older video but i hope you see this. Just wanted to say awesome vid and im glad i found your channel :) Im getting one of these FCX18s this week and wanted to ask can you recommend somewhere for purchasing mods please? I already have Modelsport and Wheelspin models bookmarked but always good to have more options. Thanks in advance!
Thanks very much and hope you enjoy the rest of my content. 👍 Modelsport are great as their delivery is very quick and never had any issues with them. Otherwise I order direct from Injora or RCAWD, or use Aliexpress or their Amazon stores. Check my descriptions or the Linktree link in my Bio for discount codes. 👍
Great videos and Love the content. New to the RC world and was on the fence with this FCX18 or the FCX24, the TRX4M or the SCX24 gladiator. Which would you advise as best out of the box.?
Thanks very much, appreciate it. 👍 I would say either tje FCX24 or FCX18 tbh, both better out the box and have more features and better value for money. Only downside to the FCX18 is its not fully waterproof, but from my experience it's the power switch which is the issue. My favourite FCX24 is the Unimog. 👍 Got reviews of them all in my Reviews playlist and some comparisons between them all in Mini Crawlers playlist 👍
@daviddoyle1017 You could wrap it in something. I just deleted it and wrapped the wires together, so now it powers on when you connect the battery like the trx4m does. 👍 I've got a referral link in the description for FMS if you want to support the channel when you order it. Got discount codes etc too if they help. 👍
Thanks very much, hope you like yours. 👍 Some I made, the barrel, spade etc are from FMS. If you use my discount code in description you can get $5 off. 👍
Mine arrived, but the car doesn't connect to the control. I connect the battery, then turn on the switch inside the engine, and then turn on the control and it doesn't connect. When I turn on the switch inside the car it even turns on the headlight and taillight but it goes off afterwards, but inside the motorcycle there is a red light flashing but it cannot pair with the control.
@DoURC no idea I was running it bit fast and hard on a grassland suddenly rear wheel stops working then I figured it out.. now waiting for injora metal 😁
FMS made again a beautiful and capable scale crawler. Thanks for the tips.👍 How about the offset of the brass wheels ? The tires seem a little far outside the body.
Yeah it definitely needs some more front bias, considering the battery is up front it's still quite rear and top heavy. Spare wheel and body is the issue I think. But they're staying as is. 👍
Upgrade number 5: Remove the heavy body, which takes out the windows, spare tire, luggage rack, snorkel and bumpers. 😀Let's face it, that body and the luggage rack comically packed with everything including the "proverbial kitchen sink" is a detriment to performance because it makes it top heavy. Run it without the body as just a frame and you will be amazed. The 55 gallon drum always makes me laugh. Do you know how much those weigh when they're full? I know it's all "for realism" but *no one* is packing those, even on a National Geographic official expedition vehicle or the Camel Trophy. The 55 gallon drum is a garage accessory for static display but it got tossed into these vehicle accessory packages sold by Injora and the like. 😉
If all you're interested in is performance and you're going to remove the body, you may as well just spend another $20 and buy something like the brushless Hobbyplus CR18P Evo Pro. This is a scale crawler, so it's finding that happy medium between scale looks and performance imo. 👍 As for the barrel, for me it was just something to fill a space on the rack. As people started moaning about it, it's kind of become a running joke. 🤣😁
