I can confirm, this is a great method for anyone who is scared of their abusive parents! I just did it with a fork, broke a spoon just by bending it repeatedly for the handle, and a pair of pliers. Just make sure the screws for the handle aren't on the outside of the door, they might be able to remove the handle that way. You can use epoxy to make them irremovable if so. I also used a bit of ductape to make the handle thicker, so no one can jiggle it open. Nobody is getting in without an axe now, I can sleep soundly. Bonus points for having a wood plank to jam the door into the frame.

My mom just came in my room and yelled at me (then got mad when I yelled back as if she hadn't set the mood for the tone). She didn't even knock. Fun fact: My door used to have a lock until my parents switched out door handles. This is the last time that's happening.
This worked really well for me! My parents aren't getting in with anything less than an axe now.

I appreciate this info immensely. Someone tried to break into my house a few days ago and I'd sleep much better knowing this extra lock was in place. Buying a good fork for the project tomorrow!

Thank you for sharing this. I unfortunately have a bedroom door that does not lock and a roommate that has no sense of boundaries. I have asked her to knock and even when she does, she doesn't wait for me to say come in, she just barges right in. It's terrible, even when I'm on the phone and I tell her, I'm on the phone, she continues to try to talk to me. The other day, I told her I'm on the phone so she backed out and then not even 2 minutes later, she came in again. It's like why do some people think that they're so important that whatever they have to say can't wait? Anyway, sorry, I'm just venting. Thank you again for sharing this.
I saw another video like this by an ex Navy Seal, he wrapped a belt around the pneumatic arm of the door whilst closed. He said sure it can be broke but as "Burning River" said......It buys you time, so sorry for anyone who feels they have to go to these lengths.I'm in Australia we don't really even lock doors.

it worked but my mum got mad at me not because i locked the door but because it was making a dinging sound when touch against the metal (she thought i was breaking the door) -_-

I'm weaker than a newborn baby so I had to use the flat end of a meat tenderizer as a hammer to bend the prongs of the fork 😂 And I'm not sure if my fork is too small or I bent too much of it to stay in the latch, but I had to substitute the fork handle with a small black-point screwdriver I found lying around and it still works like a charm 👌 Canada is the last place I expected to have to do this in lol, thanks!

Works best with a plastic fork, easily make it and it locks the door stronger. Thanos would'nt be able to get into my room, let alone all the avengers trying at the same damn time.

You can also prop a chair up under the door handle.
Many forks don't bend that easily. Just buy an Addalock at addalock.com
It works just some people have a tight space so they can’t do it like they have a shelf next to it but still it’s good
