I don't think I'm the only one who has played this from 2:30 onwards so many times, I've almost lost count. Absolutely stunning descant. Beautiful hymn aswell, brings back the memories like they were yesterday.
25 years ago and this performance is still powerful. I think this hymn reflects the humanitarian person Diana Princess of Wales was. Rest in peace beautiful princess.
Very true, it was for me the most touching moment of her funeral mass, and wherever I hear this performance, I am transported back in time to the day I watched this on TV with my dear father, and the emotions it evoked.
My boyfriend's mother passed away last Sunday, March 13, 2011. The funeral was on St. Patrick's Day, and his cousin sang this at the beginning and at the end. I am Jewish, and this song is not part of our worship. However, I can't stop crying listening to this.
My son sang in a Boy choir in Orlando @ St Luke’s Cathedral. It was a beautiful 3 years traveling all over the country & abroad. Many years ago now, but I still get tears whenever I hear these beautiful young talented boys sing .
I was mesmerized by this hymn the first time I heard it while watching it on TV during the Funeral of Princess Diana...I am still mesmerized by this incomparable version by the Westminster Abbey Choir. Thanks to the Choir, for the arrangement by Sebastian Temple, and to St Francis for the inspirational lyrics...
We are playing this at my dear youngest brother’s funeral on Saturday. I am heartbroken without him but he was one of the most peaceful people I ever knew. Everyone who knew him absolutely loved him and I know he is now in heaven with our dearly departed parents.
I agree. Her poor boys to have to follow that procession behind her. With the whole world watching. Can you please tell me who thought that was a good idea.
Most beautiful service, and most wonderful song..I remember crying my eyes out at this part of the service. I've told my daughter this is the selection I must have at my own funeral... I'm 64 now, and a man, but am preparing for the day to come. John
Growing up catholic, I learned this song and sung it many times during mass. It is one of my favorite hymns. I was pleasantly surprised to hear it being sung and sung well during this very sad occasion. Princess Diana's death affected me deeply for reasons unknown nearly 21 years later. Perhaps being born in July like she was albeit 5 years younger. Perhaps sorrow for a life cut far too short whatever the reason its mind boggling to think her sons have a grandmother in her 90s and their great grandmother lived to over 100, yet the woman closest to them only managed 36 years....
I love this beautiful piece my father died the same day as Diana's funeral this was playing on tv the last time i seen his alive he had tears in his eyes. I still get emotional when i hear this thanks for sharing
+desy hughes God promises that we all will be together again. May this song and always be a reminder of the promise that we have in love of God and we all be re united. God bless you.
desy hughes I adore this piece of music. My father in law died the day of Diana's funeral and this song still brings a tear to my eyes as well. God Bless🌹
The music to this service was beautiful. The organist did a fantastic job along with the choir. The descant to this piece was wonderful. I know Diana would have been very proud and I'm sure she was listening in her own way. Thank you for posting.
The fact remains, these are the words of a Catholic Saint that are being celebrated in the Church of England. It's a really good thing. We only have 1 God and all of us are his children. Thank you for providing this beautiful video.
Remember that when St Francis of Assisi was living, English Christians were still united with the Roman Catholic Church. So they were all the same faith then.
My beloved pet passed away on Wednesday. I learned this hymn in Catholic grade school and it’s so comforting. It sounds intense, but I’d love it to be sung at my own funeral.
The first time I ever heard of this was in Princess Diana's funeral. It still moves me to tears 26 years later. I wonder if Princess Diana ever knew how much she was loved and adored? I dont think she ever really comprehended her enormous impact on people the world over.
For those of us who live the prayerful words of St. Francis de Assisi each day in action and in deed, be reassured that he is with each of us! God Bless you and your beloved families!
This was so beautiful. I have always known it to be sung with the descant in the last verse (that's how we sang it at school), but I haven't heard it in many years. I have tears in my eyes right now. I missed the broadcast of the funeral in 1997, this is seriously emotional. I'm sure I would have been a wreck if I'd heard it on that day.
Oh my God, the last 20 seconds always get me. The choir is undescribable. It’s like it’s lifting her body away from the pain and misery she went through at the hands of the family
A truly amazing song. It is very thoughtful and deep, but it is also somewhat uplifting, especially with so many people signing at once. It's as if angels are carrying this song to the heavens.
I love this song so much, the english boys choir is a gift from God that we can expect to hear more when we reach Heaven. God Bless all who believe and pray for the ones who don't.
Oh Crikey...I just cried all over again....I was in the crowd outside....this still brings me to tears......Poor Bloody girl.....should never have married into our f'kd-up Royal Family..RIP , Sweetie.xxxx
Wow. I've often sang this at mass, in Spanish, in both Cuba and the U.S. It is marvelous to see that this hymn is spread around the world! God bless you all, from a Catholic in FL.
First heard this when my daughter sang this in the school choir and was captivated by the words, I love to listen Ito it sung by choirs, one of my go to songs at night or bad times to see me through
Beautiful piece.... Gives me peace... this was just another hymn when i was in school..... now i grasp it's meaning in the complete manner.... thanks for sharing this video....
The door's always open when you're ready to come back Home. No matter what the scandal of the day is, that doesn't change the fact that God loves you. 'Our hearts are restless until they rest in God.' (St Augustine) May Jesus grant you the grace, faith, trust in Him, and His endless, infinite, all-powerful Love, a glimpse of which we feel from this song.
Oh this is so beautiful! I've heard it twice on my local radio station (in South Africa) since Sunday and I am crying my eyes out listening & reading the words. A tribute to a truly beautiful Princess.
Make me a channel of Your peace Where there is hatred let me bring Your love Where there is injury, Your pardon, Lord And where there's doubt, true faith in You Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek So much to be consoled as to console To be understood as to understand To be loved as to love with all my soul Make me a channel of Your peace Where there's despair in life let me bring hope Where there is darkness, only light And where there's sadness, ever joy Make me a channel of Your peace It is in pardoning that we are pardoned In giving to all men that we receive And in dying that we're born to eternal life
More and more of us are starting to realize there is no god...but there CERTAINLY is music...and this is nothing less than spectacular...well done, gents!
19 years ago today never forgotten Diana you are so missed but you would be so proud of William and Harry you would have the biggest smile till we see you again someday you are born to eternal life.
This song should be world anthem.
Yes indeed
Yes, there ought to be one of some sort.
❤perfection. I couldn’t agree more.
Have you heard this in Italian ? St Francis prayer . ❤
Amen
I don't think I'm the only one who has played this from 2:30 onwards so many times, I've almost lost count. Absolutely stunning descant. Beautiful hymn aswell, brings back the memories like they were yesterday.
No version can beat this one.
🙏🏻♥️🇦🇺
Agreed, it's very moving, even after all these years of hearing it.
This is true
This song is the absolute saddest but yet most beautiful thing I have ever witnessed.
I love Christian hymn songs sung this way - in a choir, full of people, their voices singing together like one melodic harmony :) ♥
25 years ago and this performance is still powerful. I think this hymn reflects the humanitarian person Diana Princess of Wales was. Rest in peace beautiful princess.
It was one of her favourite hymns and is included in her special CD collection.
🙏🏻♥️🇦🇺
Very true, it was for me the most touching moment of her funeral mass, and wherever I hear this performance, I am transported back in time to the day I watched this on TV with my dear father, and the emotions it evoked.
First heard this hymn as a child. And it's touched and carried me through the hardest of times.
So so beautiful.
May it help you through these terrible times x
I shall always think of Diana when I hear this hymn.
A Prayer and Hymn the world needs in 2022. 🙌🙏🕊
And 2023 & beyond! God help us all, the world is in a mess!
2024
It was that last bit that was amazing! Children really have the natural ability to sing to their hearts content. Beautiful.
My boyfriend's mother passed away last Sunday, March 13, 2011. The funeral was on St. Patrick's Day, and his cousin sang this at the beginning and at the end. I am Jewish, and this song is not part of our worship. However, I can't stop crying listening to this.
A stirring and majestic tribute to the memory of Diana. The final, grand chorus takes your breath away!
My son sang in a Boy choir in Orlando @ St Luke’s Cathedral. It was a beautiful 3 years traveling all over the country & abroad. Many years ago now, but I still get tears whenever I hear these beautiful young talented boys sing .
Still gives me goosebumps every time!!!
Me too I. still miss her 😢
Beautiful Beautiful 😭😭🕊️🕊️🕊️
One of the most beautiful hymns ever written.
I cry to this
I was mesmerized by this hymn the first time I heard it while watching it on TV during the Funeral of Princess Diana...I am still mesmerized by this incomparable version by the Westminster Abbey Choir. Thanks to the Choir, for the arrangement by Sebastian Temple, and to St Francis for the inspirational lyrics...
I sang this hymn in my village church back in the 80's and is one of my favourite hymn
Me too Paul...I had exactly the same reaction as you and it has stuck in my mind for 25 years...the arrangement is glorious and the singing divine.
We are playing this at my dear youngest brother’s funeral on Saturday. I am heartbroken without him but he was one of the most peaceful people I ever knew. Everyone who knew him absolutely loved him and I know he is now in heaven with our dearly departed parents.
If there was a moment in this service when her soul ascended into heaven, it was while the choir sang the descant of this hymn.
I wish. Poor Lady Diana.
I agree. Her poor boys to have to follow that procession behind her. With the whole world watching. Can you please tell me who thought that was a good idea.
Point taken over the brief descant at the end but, let's face it - dross is still dross, however you dress it up.
Have to agree with you there. This is a beautiful hymn and the part you are referring towards the end always give me goosebumps 😓
What a magnificent prayer sung beautifully by this great Choir at Westminster Abbey. Magnificant to listen to.
Beautiful. 3:05
Still makes me cry always think of our Lady Diana never will be forgotten 🦋🦋💜
It certainly does make you think of Lady Diana.
Princess Diana is still around us, her spirit never dies
Oh that the world may believe and think the way St. Francis did when he wrote this powerful prayer! What peace God is ready to give to it !
Absolutely sublime, fulfilling and that descant sends peace that surpasses human understanding. I say Amen to that.
Great Grandma Edna.
This by far is the best recording of this beautiful prayer maid a hymn .
Most beautiful service, and most wonderful song..I remember crying my eyes out at this part of the service. I've told my daughter this is the selection I must have at my own funeral... I'm 64 now, and a man, but am preparing for the day to come. John
This beautiful hymn was sung at our wedding over 30 years ago. We chose it for its meaningful lyrics, which we still seek to live by today.
Pray to St. Francis 🙏😊

Very uplifting and appropriate for the life that the Princess lived.
Beautiful hymn something we need in our world right now 😢
I love this beautiful piece my father died the same day as Diana's funeral this was playing on tv the last time i seen his alive he had tears in his eyes. I still get emotional when i hear this thanks for sharing

desy hughes I adore this piece of music. My father in law died the day of Diana's funeral and this song still brings a tear to my eyes as well. God Bless🌹
Beautiful prayer by St Francis of Assisi. The descant sent shivers down my spine.
I come to this channel whenever I feel like having a good cry....
The music to this service was beautiful. The organist did a fantastic job along with the choir. The descant to this piece was wonderful. I know Diana would have been very proud and I'm sure she was listening in her own way. Thank you for posting.
My school prayer in morning assembly ❤❤😊😊😊. Nostalgia 😍😍
The unexpected descant at 2:32 makes this hymn even more Angelic than it already is. I also watched it on TV when it occurred...
Whenever I feel low & sorry for myself I just listen to the words & I am uplifted.
Thanks be to God
What a spiritual song!!!! Come on humanity!!! Let's find peace and share it all together!!!!!
2:30 oh my god😊😊
Very nice Song. This was played at Princess Diana's funeral in 1997 and I want that song when the time comes.
This choir is beautiful and this song is beyond beautiful. Rest in Peace Diana forever and ever.
The fact remains, these are the words of a Catholic Saint that are being celebrated in the Church of England. It's a really good thing. We only have 1 God and all of us are his children.

Sung on the wings of angels. So beautiful and to this day I have never heard it sung like it was at Princess Diana's funeral.
Beautiful, just beautiful. It reminds me of my dear departed Mom who passed away on January 10, 2006.
Reminds me of my own mom too. She passed away on May 30th, 2008.
The first time I ever heard of this was in Princess Diana's funeral. It still moves me to tears 26 years later. I wonder if Princess Diana ever knew how much she was loved and adored? I dont think she ever really comprehended her enormous impact on people the world over.
Quite the contrary- I believe that she knew; yet played it off so perfectly that she fooled us all!!!
Rest in peace sweet Princess ❤
For those of us who live the prayerful words of St. Francis de Assisi each day in action and in deed, be reassured that he is with each of us! God Bless you and your beloved families!
My favorite hymn

I was 4 when this was posted it reminds me of when everything was normal :(
One of the most beautiful hynms ever even though it seems it was originally a prayer sung magnificently .

I has been ten years and I still can't watch this without crying, we all miss Diana.
Oh my God, the last 20 seconds always get me. The choir is undescribable. It’s like it’s lifting her body away from the pain and misery she went through at the hands of the family
It was amazing...the last part especially. ...I totally agree!!
I remember this like it was yesterday! Every time I hear this song, I cry. God rest your immortal soul, Princess Diana 🌹❤️✝️
So very beautiful!
this prayer/song should pierce every heart that listens.... and, this should not fade out nor die...
A truly amazing song. It is very thoughtful and deep, but it is also somewhat uplifting, especially with so many people signing at once. It's as if angels are carrying this song to the heavens.
Now you know what Heaven will sound like in eternity, God Bless all who believe and pray for the ones who don't.
Always been my favourite hymn, even more now. Hope it will be played at my funeral
I love this song so much, the english boys choir is a gift from God that we can expect to hear more when we reach Heaven.
God Bless all who believe and pray for the ones who don't.
There is something about boys voices that is almost etherial. Hoefully the celestial choir may be made up of those boys who passed on previously.
Such a beautiful hymn in Lent n so well done.
God bless.
Absolutely great! One of the few songs that really gets me everytime I hear it.
Oh Crikey...I just cried all over again....I was in the crowd outside....this still brings me to tears......Poor Bloody girl.....should never have married into our f'kd-up Royal Family..RIP , Sweetie.xxxx

They surely knew how to choose the right music for this event. I love every single piece and I listen to it with my heart, not my ears.
Biutiful harmony! FABULOUS-MAX!!
I still remember being surprised at that amazing descant way up in the rafters on the final verse!
One of the most beautiful chior moments ❤
Nothing sends me to a spiritual state of mind more effectively than a good Anglican descant.
Oh this is so beautiful! I've heard it twice on my local radio station (in South Africa) since Sunday and I am crying my eyes out listening & reading the words. A tribute to a truly beautiful Princess.
Make me a channel of Your peace
Where there is hatred let me bring Your love
Where there is injury, Your pardon, Lord
And where there's doubt, true faith in You
Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul

Make me a channel of Your peace
