Hi Emma the programme Producers already know how good you or they wouldn't want to film your plot. Your fantastic personality and all your hard work will dazzle them so STOP WORRYING!!! 🎉🎉🎉❤
All those long stringy branches on a compost heap need to be cut up as small as possible. It's a surface area thing which let's worms and microbes in. Turn the top half into a pile next to it. Take the bottom half to your best new compost bin. Shred cardboard, coffee grounds, veggy waste, old strulch, slugs - all make good compost😂❤
Hi Emma don't forget your veg peeling from home are good for composting .you could use your old bin for weeds they take a long time to rot down but just cover them with cardboard and leave
All the stuff from the top of the old compost bin can go into your new bin and then you will be able to access the well rotted material from the bottom to use on your beds.
I agree with you that it is more of a shovel for moving loose material, than a spade for digging with. It doesn't seem to be wider on the area where you would put your foot, to stop you foot hurting.
Cover the compost that has already been made to stop it becoming soggy. The compost you are still adding to can be left open. Your new compost has a lot of dry material. The rain will stop you needing to water it. Love the vlog 😊
Allotment life is Always full of surprises Emma. With raspberries if they have a brown stem cut them down to the ground, if they have a green stem leave them and tie them in. Summer raspberries grow on this years green stems and autumn raspberries make new green stems in the spring. Simples 😊
Will be thinking of you on Tuesday but you'll be fine. Like your other followers have said, the producers know your worth, so just be yourself. I'll be watching on Wednesday for an update. Go Emma! 😊
Hi Emma, your getting the hang of composting. Keep chopping it up as you're adding it. Saves a lot of work in the end, because it speeds the process up and makes it easier to turn. Keeping it covered stops the rain from turning it into a mushy mess, it also helps to keep some of the heat in. Lining the inside with cardboard also gives it extra insulation for retaining the heat. Every now and again, give the top of the pile a fork over to prevent anything from setting root, it also helps speed it up. Keep up with the good work and good luck with the filming.
Hello Emma. I prune my raspberries in the fall. Cut off at ground level the canes that produced berries this year, the ones that are just foliage this year, will produce berries next year. They have a 2 year cycle. After a cane has berries, it has reached the end of its life. It will not grow next year. Good luck with the film crew. Love your vlogs. xox 🇨🇦
Oh Emma. You made me laugh out loud with putting that compost in the bin. I've become almost obsessed with making compost once I got a good start like you. All goes in now, kitchen scraps, grass, leaves, you name it. Love your blog.
Always call a spade a spade, not a manually operated earth inverting device . I'm liking how you keep freshening up your filming and presentation styles Emma. Show them tv guys how its done .Good luck Tuesday and if the worst comes to the worst just hide behind the shed .
You got this Emma your plots are looking wonderful and I am so jealous over your dahlias! I had to pull mine out of the ground for the harsh winters we get in Michigan 😢
You may not have time to read your comments before the film crew arrives on Tuesday, but I'm sure it'll be fantastic! Fall gardens always have their own special look, and yours looks great compared to my back garden this fall season! Tell Einstein to bring his mates for the big day!
One thing about an allotment.... there's never a dull moment. There's always something that needs to be done. Having my own has given me a new level of appreciation for our farmers
As a trained Horticulturist and with over 30 years experience gardening in South west Australia ,it's great seeing you learning from all the experiences in your allotment. I love growing Raspberries.😁👍 Good fun ! Good work Emma. 🕊🌱🍁
A good way would be to get a grate on top of your wheelbarrow, and then the fine compost will fall through it. The bind weed will stay on top. A spade is flat perfect to cut straight edges into a hole or edge of a bed. A shovel is scooped like a spoon perfect for loading compost or sand or woodchips.
The battery will release from the drill quite easily by shifting the release switch then simply recharge with the charger provided with all battery powered drills, there is usually a spare battery provided
TO MAKE COMPOST YOU NEED YOUR GREEN (vegetable waste and manure), BROWNS (leaves, fine wood chip and cardboard), WATER AND AIR, so don’t forget to water your compost heap. Don’t be scared of pruning raspberries, they’re pretty hardy and difficult to kill.
If you're worried about putting bind weed in your compost or any thing which has the potential to root. I have some of the black compost bins, which I put stinging nettles bind weed seed head's, etc. I call this my dirty compost. So I add everything, and every 6 months, take the bin off from the top. It's a bit tricky the first few times, but once u have done it a few times, it's easy to do. Then, just turn it all back into the compost bin. I also add to this within the 6 months. If you do this, you can still get a good compost it's just a little slower. This way, you still get to compost everything. I even pur bramles chopped up small into my dirty compost. Literally, anything I don't want in my main compost in for whatever reason, goes into my dirty compost.
Wish you luck with the TV show. You should be getting emotional over compost, making your own saves you a fortune and is great for your beds. In my small home garden I use 3 x 120 litre Heavy Duty Garden Waste Bags to make compost and rotate them, making holes in bottom for drainage and to let worms in. Cut all my garden waste up into small portions and place in the first bag in alternative layers of browns & greens using cardboard broken up into small pieces to help with the browns keeping the contents moist. Approx 4 months I turn the compost over, moving contents from first bag to the second, then at 8 months turn it again into 3rd bag after a year I have a 120 litre sack full of compost, to place on garden which I have just done to place over my dahlia bed to protect them from frost. So now my first bag is empty ready tto receive contents of 2 bag. Yes it’s a pain to keep turning compost but end product is worth it. A shovel is what it says for shovelling sand, cement etc and has curved sides, a spade is for digging hence the sharp front edge.and straight sides.
Hiya Emma, all the hard work will pay off re compost. Oh dear the drill I did comment re charging it? Anywhoo I’m watching this Monday night Wishing you all the best for tomorrow Tuesday. Take care southern Ontario Canada 🐝🇨🇦
Einstein comes and perches near you because he wants to get at the lovely juicy worms you've dug up! He probably gets enough food without the mealworms; birds don't go hungry on an allotment! Hope the tv filming went well.
Don't put invasive weeds like bindweed in your compost bin. Bag them up separately & dispose of. Also, a compost pile needs to be turned with a pitchfork periodically. Don't forget to add vegetable & fruit waste scraps. Prune all raspberry canes that have produced berries this year to the ground.
I don't want to sound like a safety sally but if you turn your wheelbarrow around to the direction you will be pushing it, it will stop you causing you back pain or worse... fair enough the stuff you were wheeling wasn't very heavy but the habit of doing it properly ready for when the stuff you are wheeling is heavy
When it comes to the heavy stuff, you want to get the heaviest load at the front on the wheelbarrow, so the weight is directly above the wheel. Makes quite a difference.
England does have poisonous spiders. Emma seems to think those are the ones in her shed. I'm inclined to agree with her, based on one she actually filmed ages ago.
Emma why don't you answer comments the film crew will ask you things you will answer so please answer comments this is now your business so don't business answer enquirys too big to care now Not a go just good practice
Think I'm missing something. Why are you surprised to find compost in a compost heap? Calling a spade a shovel is hilarious. No one can ever say you call a spade a spade! 😂

just thought youd like to know that a Shovel is for shovelling. Moving material by scooping up. The spade is for digging .
I’ve put Conkers in my shed, spiders don’t like the smell might be an idea for you Emma, keep up the good work !

I love how casual you are about the bindweed, because to me it's frightening. Love your channel.

Hi Emma Love when your telling Einstein I am Human. I'm thinking no your not your a cat a "scaredy cat"! 🦊
Hi Emma, I used to put a sulphur candle in my greenhouse too kill all the bugs and spider's at the start of a new season. Try it in your shed

I always thought you should cover the compost to keep the heat in
Einstein knows it’s good compost he was looking for worms. He was there awhile lol

Call a spade a spade.
It needs oxygen, to be aerated.
I imagine the people who want to film you, want you the way you are, that’s why they picked you 💚
Please get rid of your rubbish Emma 😂 I agree, spade/ shovel, same thing 🤷♀️
Spider's are ur friend ❤
England does have poisonous spiders. Emma seems to think those are the ones in her shed. I'm inclined to agree with her, based on one she actually filmed ages ago.
@@CricketsBay yikes I did see the video you speak of. 🐝🇨🇦
Cut those raspberries down. Don’t need tying in. So excited to see that compost at the bottom of the old bin
Only cut the brown stems. The green ones will produce next Summer's raspberries.
You'd of been better taking all that top off the old compost bin and putting it I the new one and you'd get the compost from the bottom easy
Emma why don't you answer comments the film crew will ask you things you will answer so please answer comments this is now your business so don't business answer enquirys too big to care now Not a go just good practice
