Just started watching these videos. Brings back lots of memories. I've been to all of those venues early to mid to late '80s mostly. Such great memories and good times. 🤘
Born and Raised AZ and still live in Phx i gotta say it's a DAMN shame what this state has come down to.... I miss Bill Johnson's Big Apple!!! P.s. I subbed
Our family moved to Phoenix in the summer of 1978. The first concert we saw in Arizona that summer was The Rolling Stones in Tucson. Not many photos exist because cameras were considered contraband as you were entering a concert facility. So wielding my high school press credentials, (as a yearbook photogragher no less) I tried to get backstage at several concerts and the only one that that successful was Rush at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in1979. Compton Terrace was named after Bill Compton, who was the programming director at KDKB. 93.3. in the early 70s and was killed in an automobile accident on 48th Street in the Arcadia area. The first concert at the venue with Warren Zevon and the Grateful Dead, and Warren had not stopped drinking yet. Fast forward to the Chandler Compton Terrace and James addiction debuted Lollapalooza. The first lineup included. the Surf punks, Nine inch Nails, Living Color, Bodycount. Siouxsie and the Banshee's and Jane's Addiction. Just to name a few. Now here are three bands. And guess who played tthe warmup acts-- The Scorpions, Aerosmith and Guns and Roses. (Hint-- The Scorpions headlined, believe it or not.) Tempe venues real quick--Dooly's (later the Electric Ballroom} on 1216 E Apache, Chuy's (3 differnet locations around Hayden Square)...wait there used to be an ampitheater about 4 St and Mill (called the Hayden Square Amphitheater) and now it's just a green space.... And of course, the legendary Long Wongs (on Mill), Which is another parking lot. Ohh God, this is depressing.
Thanks for sharing sounds like you got to attend some TREMENDOUS shows!!! Great idea with the camera and press trick. At least it worked for Rush!!! Very cool
Not just in the USA but all over the world we have lost many great venues. These were the places where you would hone your live music playing skills as well as see amazing bands and meet real people. More funding is needed so we don't loose anymore of these iconic meetings places.
Are you certain? The address matched up to Ranch Market and an employee said they remembered seeing Oingo Boingo by the produce section. And Greg Kihn band by the frozen foods. I could be mistaken. Appreciate the comment.
unsure if you know about the old Electric Ballroom that was in Tempe but it turned into a combination high school + middle school of art ( i actually graduated there in 2016!)
Hey guys. I’ve been to Mason jar and also I saw the concert by AC/DC and Cheap Trick with Elton John at Compton Terrace by legend city also, I went to legend city when I was a kid I came in second place I name in the new roller coaster so I ended up going on Wallace and Ladmo show, who became friends with. Also, I would wear a yellow string around my wrist to go on most of the rides. Why remember this I have no idea.
Wait...when did Liguori's/Kats get demolished? Also...you missed a few notable venues - Nita's Hideaway, The Sets, Club Rio, Club Red and Joe's Grotto. Just to name a few
at least with the Mason Jar, it got new ownership and was able to reinvent itself as the Rebel Lounge. though you can't say the same for most of the old ones.

Based and unfazed pilled Ben is the rock n roll librarian!

Many a memory at Rebel Lounge! Very hot, very smelly.
Smells like VICTORY
These must have been the mi pueblo of the music venues
That big venue turned into the weird parking lot is so sad lol everything is just parking lots in Arizona now 😢
Tragic AF!!! Really a bad move on their part. Destroying an amusement park and a concert venue for office buildings is a real idiotic plan.
@@unfazedreview3000 the city of phx seems to be very corporate and doesn’t see any value in wholesome fun and the arts
@@Foreground-oy1edagreed completely. Really a shame

So many!!! A tragedy more venues aren’t preserved.
Graham Central Station wasn’t where Ranch Market is. It was on the other side of the parking lot. The Ranch Market was a home improvement store.

Do round 2! The One Place, The PHiX, Celebrity theater, I can think of more too if you want?
Heck yeah, if this one gets some love I may do a part 2! Yeah definitely drop all your location suggestions 😎
MAKE THIS VIDEO BLOW UP #ALGORITHMALGORITHMALGORITHM ❤❤❤

Legendary!!! That’s awesome
@@unfazedreview3000 Thank you so much my friend.
WHAT'S UP
YOU WHEN YOU CLIMB MOUNTAINS AND ROCK WALLS!!!

So many, might just have to do a part 2! Thx for the suggestions.
It’s strange Kats got demolished so quickly, no idea when it actually came down.
@@unfazedreview3000 yeah that blew my mind. I worked at the Mason Jar for the last 5 years, so seeing Liguori's/Kats gone is VERY weird to me

So curious about emo prom
Yeah, I might have to check it out! Emo nights are super fun
Hate to tell you Ranch Market was not where Grand Central Station it’s the other side of the parking lot where DDs is!!
Good to know! Google was no help. Thanks for the correction.
I believe the Rhythm Room is still open....
It is, just drove by it and wanted to share a story about it and preserve it.
The Rhythm room was the shit!!! Sad it's no more.
