Dude, you’re making some pretty stout investments, wishing you much success! It would awesome if you could find a reliable (retired?) part time operator, allowing you to have both pieces of equipment on a single project.
Yeah that would be good, I need to get my dad in this thing and let him run it and get familiar with it, I think he'd be a good candidate for that position!
That excavator with the cutter head on it sure did a good job with those tree limbs and brush along the side of the road. A larger head, like the 42" head would only have increased the speed at which you were cutting marginally. I, personally, think you will get a lot of use out of the smaller cutting head.
Yeah I've really like this head, a bigger head may be faster but this one is nice as I can get it into tight areas and the weight isn't too much stress on the machine lifting it high up or extending it far out.
Is there a reason the hydraulic feed lines supplying whatever equipment is attached to the QD head are not plumbed underneath or on top of the boom rather than facing sideways? It appears they would be better protected from casual impacts if they were mounted in either of those locations even if only on the outer segment and problems like undesirable contact you described would not occur either. I have seen a similar design being used to slash dense roadside brush for bushfire mitigation in Australia but it employed heavy cutters which looked like they used some kind of chain-link system.
I'm thinking if I was running your machine, I would disarm that automatic brake before the day was done. I run a Bobcat with a U S Mower and its a wicked machine.
I'm just curious do you have a favorite of all it seems like the three blade on your excavator can get a lot more done and get a lot more reach love the videos man keep up the hard work thanks for sharing
Overall, would you choose the brush cutter or mulcher. I'm basically clearing personal property that was neglected for years. Gas well roads, fence lines etc. Just sold skid steer due to not being able to reach over banks and ditch lines. Lee
I had the same style cutter on mine, different manufacturer, the only thing I will say is,when possible, get closer to the stuff your cutting, don’t leave your boom and dipper fully extended and swing back and forth, that much weight out that far is hard on bushings
Thanks! Yeah it can get a little annoying, in my later vids of this attachment I edit the sound a bit to take that high-pitched whine out of the sound. Thanks for watching! I just did a job today with this cutter, content should be coming in the next day or so!
Oh yeah... With the 3rd edge, if you flip one blade upside down, it will cut like a saw kerf. Will cut larger material more efficiently. Cuts just as even in grass.
Remember, he just got it and doesn't know it's full capability. Even with the excavator he's probably used for years, he has to learn it all over again.
@@idigit4967 I was curious if the smaller cutter could cut bigger materials than the larger cutter? My thinking is, it is easier on the gear box for the smaller cutter cutting larger material. But then again there is momentum involved.
The U55 tops out at 20 gal/m. I messed around with the hydraulic settings today on the control panel and set everything to max. For this I was running around 80% throttle so that was probably 16 gal/m or so in this vid.
Looking at one of these for my 60G Deere, do you price this by the hour or the job? Just wondering what kind of price I could charge for something like this. Thanks.
@@idigit4967 thank you for the reply! Work with my dad in a landscape company we are growing really fast and want invest in a mini skid steer with attachments for long hedges on residential and golf courses.
What would a job like this cost the customer if you don't mine me asking? How many hours would it take too? This is something I'd love to get into and have no idea what to charge.
? Why did you not establish where the ditch was and if’s still in good shape before cutting the trees? This machine would be good for finding creeks and ditch’s and cleaning up the sides. Trimming vines off of trees. Trimming hedges like yew that itch like crazy.
The irritating noise that the head makes is that the brake you talked about? It was nice when you played the music. It appears to to the job though. I am a recent subscriber but have liked your videos👍👍👍👍
Yeah that noise I believe is the brake, I think what is happening is it senses a drop in pressure when moving the boom and arm at the same time or driving forward because you're taking oil flow away from the head and the brake tries to kick in. I can be annoying. Sorry... 😬
@@idigit4967 it's the remaining inertia in the carrier back feeding pressure into the return when it loses flow. It causes a pressure spike in the motor. The buzz saw sound is the friction between the gears and rollers in the motor under pressure. A very knowledgeable tech told me it would be wise to install an H valve in the lines in front of the motor like some cutters have so that it can free spin without restriction.
Can't do that unfortunately. The drive motors take priority when you are driving which significantly cuts down on the amount of oil pumped to the cutter. It slows down so much its basically ineffective. Excavators of this size aren't designed to track forward and run an attachment at the same time.
The pump is locked in the on position, its just that when traveling or moving the boom, arm and cutter all at the same time this uses too much oil flow and takes flow away from the cutter itself.
Stupid question, the whining when you move the boom? Is that because not enough flow to run cutter and boom? Are you cutting it on and off when you move mini? I am interested in buying a similar system, but just curious about the whining sound.
Good question Mike! The whining is the brake valve in the pump that slows the cutter down when you shut off the flow. Its a safety mechanism in the cutter. What's happening is that when you move the boom, arm and head all at the same time you are taking flow away from the cutter, when the brake valve senses the drop in flow it tries to kick in. I called MTL about this when I got it and it is completely normal. If you have any other questions please let me know. Thanks!
Check out Cotontop3 on UA-cam he has tons of videos on a very similar machine making several modifications for different attachments and hydraulic changes.
Nothing takes forever you would have been better off with the Bobcat just going up and down the thing lifting it up and tearing everything away hope you weren't charged that guy by the hour if you were he's paying for that whole attachment not something I'd want to slow.👎👎
Maybe, But it seemed like all that back and forth to move down the edge of the woodline would have taken too long and been alot of unnecessary wear on the undercarriage. But I think it would have worked. Thanks for the feedback!
Pretty nice attachment there. Could definitely make cutting around ponds and such easier
Definitely! Going to cut my impound embankment today.
I’m having summertime flashbacks. I can hear how hot it is there with them damn bugs yapping
I have a blue diamond and it has the same type of blades. The bolt is flat on two sides to hold it in place while u torque the nut down. Works great.

Nice setup. I for sure would make it a priority to put spacers on that hose carers !
For sure. Gonna try to get it over to my mechanic this week.
Sounded like the brake would engage? Do you have to hold a constant on for flow to the mower or is it locked on or off?

1/2 inch to 3/4 inch spacers on those hydraulic line should work. have ahd to do the same thing on Cats and Deere
That's a cutting machine, nice piece of equipment.
It is nice to look at your work at the end of the day and feel satisfied you have done a good job, well done sir ..

Yeah I've been impressed with it so far.
Wow. That's the same blades and blade carrier as a Blue Diamond mini ex/mini skid cutter
From what I've been told, Blue Diamond and MTL are both assembled on the same welding table in the same shop. Only difference is design really.

It's nice when it devours the brush, no draging...chipping or burning. It saves lots of physical labor. What's the cut capacity? As in diameter.
It rates out at a 5" capacity. If you got any other questions let me know Brian!
