Beating James’ pull-up record was probably simultaneously one of the most satisfying and most disappointing moments in all of gaming.
True, no trophy/achievements for that
@@arsenelupin1854 Was really hoping they’d add more trophy hunter achievements to Legendary Edition, like visit all planets in the game or collect every possibly fish etc.
Oh well, at least I get the personal satisfaction of doing those things 😊
yup
Very time consuming
@@Pendleton115 I was expected that too... maybe it's just because I play MCC with dozens of achievements being that sort of stuff amongst 700
"He messed with my hamster, guys. NOW it's personal." xD
Got to admire the balls on James for challenging his cyborg super soldier commander to a pull up contest
The pull-ups scene was interesting when I first played the citadel dlc. I started it. And then it kept going. And going. And going. I lost count and I was just thinking “end already!” But I couldn’t let James, with his smug attitude, have the satisfaction of beating a superior officer. Only Garrus can do that. 😆
I always shoot the bottle, can't have Garrus slippin on me.
Same here. Let James win? No way! :)
Garrus is more complicated. I've always stopped considering the choice, but so far I always decided to hit the bottle. My reasoning mainly being that as a turian, he respects military prowess and that's a more important bond for the greater cause than personal friendship and gestures.
Same! I did it on my first time through the DLC earlier this month. Screw you, James!
@@ZonsoAvalune You channeled your inner Jack. >:}
@@zoltanposfai3451 I always let him win because he has grown so much, but always stays in Shepard’s shadow. Let him have this one thing he’s better at than us. It feels good, and also the “I’m Garrus Vakarian and this is my favorite spot on the Citadel!” victory shout are priceless. Garrus achieves peak Shepard at that moment and it feels great.
That detail about the Carnifex heavy pistol also hit me like a bus. I've also noticed now that in almost all encounters in ME3, Shepard uses the default predator heavy pistol but in that encounter with mordin, he uses the carnifex. So, bioware created a poetic but sad storyline. 😥
@@M.AZZAM8976 I agree, but I do wonder how many people would have sabotaged the Genophage if it didn't involve shooting Mordin. Because the arguments for the Sabotage are not completely off, and at least from a roleplaying standpoint, it would make absolute sense why a Shep would think "yeah, the Krogan are kind of unstable warmongers, and once Wrex is no longer in power, having them multiply like crzay might NOT be the best idea". Let's keep in mind, Wrex is in power because most people know that his more peaceful approach is necessary for survival because the Krogan aren't as strong as they used to be. I wouldn't be too sure if a majority of Krogan would still follow him when the Krogan have the power to dominate the galaxy again.
@@CaptainSweatpants90 I wouldn't sabotage the Genophage. The Krogan deserve a chance.
Also funnily enough, it’s used by Shepard (when he’s injured at least) and Anderson during Priority Earth.
So the Carnifex is connected to not one, but arguably two, popular ME characters.
Citadel DLC sure has some of the funniest and most memorable moments and dialogues in the entire trilogy.
"You've always wanted to have a firefight in my CIC?"
Wrex: "And it's not even my birthday hahahaha!!"
AAAAH, Prothean no like you!
That's just a gossip you heard down in the sushi bar. Oh, wait...
@@ThrdSonofSparda my favorite Wrex dialogue was, " Uncle Urdnot's in town and he's got lots of bullets."
The Citadel DLC is all fan service and shenanigans and I'm 100% there. Not to mention some of the most challenging combat with the boss fight on insanity and the Armax arena.
I was one those maniacs who beat the pull-up record... Somehow, it's both worth it and definitely not worth it at the same time 😅
And still wait for the arrival of the DLC reapers
I do it in every playthrough. It's time consuming but my brain won't let me not do it
If you are a Paragon you seem to get a different dialogue for beating Vega.
I am one of those maniacs that failed at 1,9,19,29,39,49,59,69,79,89,99,109,119,129,139,149,159,169,179,182 - James actually has different reactions ranging from "I guess we found what Shapard aint good at" or something similar" on 1 pull up fail to "So close, So damn close" when I failed on the last 182nd pull up.
I did it just because I hated that guy and didn't want him to have the satisfaction of being better than me (even though it's just a game lmao).
That Carnifex detail hit like a BRICK TO FACE, I mean WOW
I knew all but Mordins carnifex.
I never have that scene because I make Mordin see reason with the genophage. I remind him of all the facts he's made about it being a good thing.
There’s a special place in hell for people who ignore Garrus
And what about for people like me who lets him get killed in the Base?
@@sandrogamer30018 Wait ya recruited him? Sometimes I forgot lmao
@@ramors4715 I don't in me1 but in me2 it's mandatory to recruit him unfortunally...
Fortunally I can kill his useless ass on the Base.
@@sandrogamer30018 I tend to ignore him as much as possible and if needed, kill him off. Tbh he isn't a favorite for me. Now excuse me while I hide. I fear the Garrus fanbase breathing down my neck lmao
@@ramors4715 Oh yes... Shakarian worshippers are the worst.
I have a shotgun here to spare. i'll lend it to you and you'll watch my six.
I laughed out loud at Tali trying to shoot Legion; you can also bring Legion along for Tali's loyalty mission and oh BOY did they prepare some custom dialog of Quarians absolutely losing their minds.
Sadly Legion doesn't make much difference other than his arrival, my goal in bringing him to the Quarian ship was to make a point that some Geth can be reasonable but they never bring this topic up.
The space hamster part of Shepard getting mad is prolly my favorite part
The craziest factoid about Mordin is that he has a different VA in 2 and 3; I never noticed the slight difference until recently
Really? Stood out like a sore thumb to me.
Damn, I had no idea 😮
Beating James' record as Femshep is such a power move I have to do it everytime...
Unrealistic though
This should be achievable only for soldiers and vanguard. Also shooting bottle when talking with garrus should be only for infiltrator and soildier class. And made a few more choices only for specific class.
@@Just_a-guy fair enough, having more than the one class-specific narrative option we got would've been great. in this scenario i always chalked shep's strength up to them being mostly cybernetics and metal after the me2 intro, but they didn't really go into detail on that, so who knows
@@oz0451 this have some logic in it but then sound like shepard isnt as awesome only half robot
@Jordan Dennis Unrealistic? Femshep has been genetically altered, stuffed with cybernetics and Reaper tech, installed all types of upgrades (researched and bought during ME2), and has been a super soldier for years. I think that would bring this scenario into the realm of possibility.
A couple of my favorite rare ones involve Tali. If you wait till after Priority: Rannoch to do Tuchanka: Turian Platoon you will get some cool unique dialogue after the mission between Tali and EDI where EDI compares the Victus’ relationship to Tali and her father’s. Also if you side exclusively with the Quarians on Rannoch and are in a romance with Tali after the mission Javik will say he is happy you didn’t side with the geth and will say this exact quote, “Your Quarian seems pleased. Perhaps she will reward you with a reproductive ritual.”
If you haven't yet try doing a playthrough without doing Lair of the Shadowbroker, then in ME3 ignore Liara throughout the game but keep talking to Edi. Edi will then get to the comment about Liara Keeping stuff from her and calling her a blabbermouth, Edi then spills that Liara is the Shadow Broker and Shepard goes.. "Wait, she's what?" then Edi goes "Oh, uhm.... maybe you should talk to Liara."
Interestingly, I got the same dialogue with EDI despite talking to Liara about the SB role first. I suppose only the "finished LotSB" checkbox counts.
i wanna know how Liara would have managed to take down the yahg
@@FuraFaolox She hired Dozens of mercenaries to storm his lair. She was too late to save Feron, though.
I always find it morbidly funny how across the whole trilogy we basically watch Batarians getting wiped out of existence and almost nobody in galaxy even noticed.
Imagine if James was just talking shit about his record and you just tore your arms off to do 183 pull ups...
Or he lied and his real record is 184 and you tore your arms and stopped before beating the record
@@Commando0241 sadly more likely for james xD
@@angrynerd2103 If he said it - I already said "like I could do another 183" so I would just say "Well, then Ill just do another 185 not 183"
I was honestly expecting that, while I was grinding through it.
"Oh wow you really did 183? My record was only 91 and I just doubled it to see you do it."
If you also complete the Leviathan DLC prior to the Citadel DLC, then when you find the hamster in the bin and interact with it, you can also hear the Husk head screaming from the bottom of the dumpster.
5:20 the hamster also reacts to the husk head you can get in the leviathan dlc.
i think it's a well-known detail, but if you take garrus to mordin's loyalty mission, he says that there's no fun in battles in clinics. then he says that he enjoys fighting in gardens, electronic shops and fancy antique shops. then in citadel dlc when you sneak into the normandy before the last clone battle, you can take garrus with you and he says that fighting in normandy cic is even more fun than in gardens, electronic and antique shops. this dialogue occurs only if you took him to mordin's loyalty mission
I got this dialogue and I took Tali with me on Mordin's loyalty mission. I remember it being weird because they still do the banter but it had no context.
I remember doing the pull up record thing once I finally got my hands on the citadel DLC through the legendary edition, I love that bioware didn't just have it fade to black and pick back up near the last couple reps, they actually made you do all 183.
Shepard on your merch should have had the infamous goggles
I ran into the Hamster Dialog in the Citadel DLC, I also was offended the'yd take away my best mate! hahah
That's it, this time it's personal! Time to show this asshole what the skillian blitz looks like as a person!
I didn't know that dialogue with Garrus even existed. But I've tried this once with James by avoiding him until priority earth and he only seemed to have his usual conversation and sparring with Shepard. So, i don't thing such a unique dialogue exists with James. But I'm not sure about the other squadmates though.
on my first playthrouh i didnt care for James and i visited him right before Earth and he mentioned how I mustve forgot he was down there, so there is unique dialogue there but it was also because i probably didnt take him on many missions either
James has unique dialogue if you lose the pull up competition by one pull up
He doesn’t, this prick is just trying to troll you
@@johnjacob2978 lmao g
@@johnjacob2978 Not just 1 btw, he has multiple quotes based on your progress.
I was really hoping with the legendary edition they'd change it so you could get Legion sooner. There are soooooooooo many hidden dialogue options
Legion is the coolest squad mate that you will literally never get a chance to use outside of his loyalty mission
@@DeadManSinging1 You can always save the DLC for post-endgame, though his dialogue will be limited. I don’t think he even has anything to add during Overlord, which is weird.
Sooner? You can go to get the IFF with only 33% completion.
Another interesting feature of Boo, Shepard's miniature giant space hamster. Once he is in his cage, and you complete the citadel dlc involving the Leviathan from me3, you also keep an active, snarleling husk head on your desk(you do this by letting James play around with the head kept in Byson's office. If James does this enough, he asks if you guys can keep it, to which Shepard agrees. It will show up in your cabin not long after). It usually just snarls at shepard if you get too close to it, but if you stand just right at the bathroom door, Boo is closer to it then Shepard. The husk head will look up & see Boo, snarling at him instead. Boo gets scared and scampers back inside his home.
I honestly completed the James push up challenge on the first try. And I don't know if I feel amazed/surprised or ridiculous on myself after doing that. Lol
i found the space hamster in ME3 by complete accident, i went down to jacks hidey hole in search of some model ships, and heard a lil squeak. freaked me tf out until i saw it scuttering across the ground. i was already about 75% of the way through the game and he’d been wandering around down there the whole time! i was upset lmaooo
In the Citidel DLC during the party when you see Mordin's recordings, Mordin heavily implies that he had a one night stand with Aria and managed to escape when she tried to kill him after the sex
He's talking about his detective story, but yes. He said the character broke Omega's one rule... in more ways than one.
Oh man, I would love that "I should go" shirt if it were Femshep! But like, the old default Femshep. The new one looks weird.
You forgot to add the detail about the Husk head, from the Leviathan DLC. About how it will interact with your hamster in your cabin, and you can hear it screaming from the bottom of the trash bin in Citadel DLC.
Fem Shep's delivery on her space hamster being thrown in the trash is absolute perfection.
Fem shep does the pissed of and renegade lines better in general IMO.
Shepard: "he messed with my hamster guys. Now this is personal." *goes full John Wick mood*
I actually never thought of bringing Legion to Tali's recruitment mission.
Love how Shepard actually gets upset about imposter Shep getting rid of his hamster 😂😂
What i saw in mass effect is in the leviathan quest line you are able to take the husk head thats on the desk when James visits at the office later on in the DLC when the clone cleans out your room you hear the head screaming in the trash can
I actually beat his 182 record every time I do the Citadel DLC as Femshep.
Dan I am loving the new thumbnails. Always enjoy your content, keep up the good work!
Damn you Big Dan, I'm doing a sort of 100% run and now that I know about the pull-up competition I'm going to have to sit through that
You and mr hulthen should make a video together talking bout lore and bouncing me4 ideas off eachother
One of my favorite things to do, even on a mostly paragon playthrough, is to not reveal the sabotage and do Ren responses during the final conversation with Mordin. I even go as far as pulling the gun, but I don't pull the trigger. In that senerio, Mordin doesn't say his seashell line, but gets that awesome "I made a mistake!" monologue. It's a well done moment and I usually do it with Ren playthroughs as well to show the line my Shep isn't willing to cross: killing those they love.
I did the pull ups thing first time and it took so long, but I wasn't letting him beat me.
I love that this page is getting grower wishing you the best on your soon 100k subs 👍
You've got your own merch, congratulations !!!
This is if you collected both the space hamster and the husk head from the Leviathan DLC:
In the Citadel DLC, when you interact with the space hamster in the garbage, listen closely and you can hear the husk head groaning underneath everything.
I really, really didn’t like watching Shepard shoot Mordin. I can’t comprehend how a person could play through that???!
Yeah, for the longest time I plan on doing renegade playthrough but then I realize there these moments my stomach just wouldn´t be able to handle. This, or Overlord ending. And few more.
Geez , i noticed the Carnifex call back in the confrontation with Mordin , but i did not realise how deep the undetone was .
The Carnifex also shows up if you also betray Wrex, when he confronts you on the Citadel (wielding a Krogan Claymore shotgun, of course)
Pull ups are easy, you can click both actions and it still counts it. So you can just click them both each few seconds during for example watching this video.
Fun fact, there’s likely a more obscure line of dialogue where you do 181 pull ups and stop. Where James says “aww you were so close!”
Not talking with a squadmate for the entire game; i haven't tried this at all as ME3 would become a lot more boring without its conversations.
I only did it when I was rushing through my insanity run, so the whole game was NG+ and less than 8 hours (no DLC or anything extra)
I remembered doing this when Citadel first came out. It’s one of if not the best DLC ever. It’s certainly my favorite.
If you’ve already done leviathan and you took the husk head then when you do citadel you can hear the husk head in the bin with the hamster freaking out
I knew he always had that pistol regardless of what weapon given it's used every time I see the scene, but never made that connection.
I did know about the space hamster one but didn't know about the extra dialogue. After the initia phrase is said.
I literally got the Ignoring Garrus scene yesterday haha.
Also something else that I found out: If you finish Priority: Citadel without going to Grissom Academy, Samantha will inform you afterwards that everyone at Grissom probably died, but the students may have escaped. (Since you were busy curing the Genophage and all that)
WOOPS
Also I think Jack gets turned into a banshee
@@gremlininblue2601 that's morinthn...jack was a phantom
Shep will also toss away the Carnifex even if they do everything the same EXCEPT for firing the gun as Mordin goes up to stop the Genophage. Which is actually a good storytelling point as either Shep tosses it to show the dissolution of their friendship or that Shep cant believe they were willing to try and do so and being disgusted with themselves.
I love how much much Shepard panics about his pets
I feel like Shepard throwing away the pistol isn't about him discarding his friendship with Mordin. Feels more like he throws it away in disgust at what he had to do.
I've done thw pull ups a few days ago and thought it waa a joke to beat James' highscore but i was wrong 🙄 😆
I like that the hamster's voice action is literally just some dude saying "Squeak" with the pitch turned all the way up.
Lol the "I Should Go" t-shirt looks so cool, I hope I can get it in time
I just now realized James has the same actor as Kanan from Rebels and Fred from the old live action Scooby-Doo movies, I think this revelation makes me like the character even more than I did!
Remember doing this not for a achievement but for my pride
Every time I hear it, I loose my mind LAUGHING at the hamster monologue. I think about it all the time and it's my go to 30 ish second monologue. Both Meer and Hale deliver it with so much anger and resentment like that was the WORST thing the clone could have possibly ever done and it is an unforgivable sin that deserves death and I love it and I LIVE for it. It is what I showed my friend when shed asked about the series
Uff! The Carnifex detail hits like a ton of bricks… I’ve only done that choice in a few of my playthroughs, but oh my god that’s heavy.
I actually saw the garrus dialogue on my first remaster run through. Had no idea it was there!
Beating James pull up record give me a feeling of mind numbing repetitiveness that I haven’t felt since I worked at my old job.
Merch idea: Can it wait for a bit I am in the middle of some calibrations
The space hamster one is great! Because if you kept the husk head you can hear it going off 🤣
Nice! I didn't understand why Shepard threw away the gun after shooting Mordin, and now I do.
Big Dan, you need to do a video series on not talking to anyone other than what’s required by the game, and see if there’s any differences.
Milky Way dark age ending, pretty much.
I've actually had that "you've been ignoring me" dialog in the recent playthrough, but I wouldn't recall if you hadn't shown the video.
What if you get the same amount as James' 182? Can you try that?
Also Shepard is doing behind the neck pull ups not pull ups! :O
I heard Garrus' dialogue about not coming to see him all the time...I rarely went to go see him in the forward battery. Lol.
1:25 “I’d wager about 100% of you have never seen this dialogue.”
Literally I thought it was the default thing Garrus said during his first convo since I always forget about him
Oh what's this? ANother person who despises Garrus? Hehe
@@sandrogamer30018 I wouldn’t even go so far as to say I despise him, I just find him kinda boring on the whole, so by the time I get to ME3 I gotta remind myself he exists every time I’m checking in with my crew. And that reminder usually doesn’t sink in until like after tuchanka or something.
Which is kinda funny to me too since I primarily play FemShep and all the garrus fans seem to love that romance for some reason but i always find it as awkward as the Tali romance but way less endearing so these days I’m pretty much exclusively romancing Liara or Traynor. Kinda wish jack hadn’t been turned straight by the news
@@mamboonthetube7652 Garrus is just a puppy that follows you everywhere and say "Yes master." and "Though choice but you did good Master". Tali follows you every step but at least her moral compass can clash with yours and she doesn't have issues to say her doubts and disagreetments. Characters that shows friction are the most interesting to me.
And sorry but Liara is another very boring character to me lol. Yeah once again Foxe News came to ruin every bisexual romance as usual.
And my God don't get me started on Shakarian fanbase, the most annoying fanbase there is. Constantly overrating the Turian Robin and swooning over him. It's so ridiculous I even have to grit my teeth to no say things lol.
Hey Dan not sure if u did but u should make a vid about nihlus and Samaras week long battle
I broke James’s record when I played through but I thought about giving up several times while doing it but the idea of getting fun dialogue kept me going I guess it was worth the time lol
Arrival DLC is also the "first time" you meet Admiral Hackett in person.
Go to the eyes, Boo, go to the eyes! (Minsc) Oh hell, I need to play BG2 after this video. And yes, didn't know most of those details. Thanks, Dan.
Baldurs Gate is probably known in all Citadel Space. There is a game shop in Citadel and seller buying games from people to have the best collection :)
Stumbled onto the pull up challenge by mistake but once I started I just couldn't give James a reason to be smug about beating a superior officer
on mass effect 2 after u recruit tali ,if u don't talk to her at all, some conversations will change during her request to help her with her problem
You are talking about referring to BG when one of the characters says "Go for the eyes, Boo! Go for the eyes!" 8:50.
But you probably didn't notice Shepard was saying that to his hamster too at 5:11.
that mordin thingy actually makes me so sad. watching shepard throw the pistol away like that just hurts man
I actually had the garrus ignoring scene first because I was looking for more ships models I may have missed so I had the scene.
if you decide to keep the reanimated husk head in your room and you also have the space hamster when you activate the hamster the head will react and scare the hamster. I thought that was a fun little interaction between two items
I've only played through the entirety of Mass Effect 3 twice, and both times I have beat James's pull up record
With the pullups, I decided to do a few just to see if there was an indication that it was being tracked. It soon became apparent that it was, and yeah - at that point, I simply had to do 184 no matter how long it took.
in the citadel DLC when you find your hamster, if you have the husk skull it will consistently scream the whole time until the elevator door closes
I can’t believe I actually did the pull-up thing. Such a waste of time haha
I've beaten James' pullup record twice, once as paragon and once as renegade. Yes, I have problems.
I've done it both with maleshep and femshep. Guess I have some problems too
I like that you can get the husk head in ME3.
Man, didn’t know about the hamster 🐹 I’m dying 😵 thx Big Dan 🙏
I did the pull-up challenge first time and was blown away by how mediocre the payoff was lol
The whole space hamster thing is a reference to the novel 'Forgotten Realms'
1&2 I ran into already. 5 - skipped the mass relay asteroid mission the first playthrough and was really confused at the fact that all the repercussions are still in ME3 (had no context). Second ME2 playthrough it finally made sense.
Holy shit... just encountered the firsf one like a day or 2, on my recent playthrough of mass effect 3. I didn't really wait that long to talk to him either, only a few hours since getting him on Palaven, so its easier to encounter than this video might suggest.
I ALWAYS go and do the whole pull up record thing! haha
Gotta feel bad for how the space hamster was treated, poor little guy.
