Possibly the coolest. They designed and engineered this unique, massive dual tone rotor/stator that clearly does its job fantastically well, and then just abandoned it and never used it for any other subsequent model. Try to think of another rotor that they never used in more than one siren. The STL-10 is the only other one i can think of, but there’s nothing particularly special about that one. It’s just big and low pitched. This one has curved rotor vanes, angled ports, one of the only directional rotors Federal ever made. It’s clear that a lot of thought was put into it. I’d love to know the reason why it was made, and the reason why it never got used for any other purpose.
@@MarcusToroian they aren’t curved. They’re straight vanes just like all other Federal sirens. Stator is bidirectional too. They did that purposely so you lose no performance if it’s wired backwards. It was a much more mature design overall though. Super cool machine
Fr. These things were also used in the design of the 2001, and were made to be a more reliable option than the Thunderbolt which it was a great job at. Only problem with it is the belt driven rotator. That is why they created the 2001-SRNs which are basically 500-SHs with the chopper assembly reversed and they put it on a Thunderbolt rotator as it’s much better than the 500’s rotator. IMO they should’ve kept the chopper assembly how it is and kept the overall design of the 500 the same, just put a DC motor into it which is the same one as on any 2001 and put it on a Thunderbolt or 2001-130/Equinox/508 rotator. Then we would still be able to have dual tone sirens which would be more distinct from other sirens and background noise, and be louder than a 2001
God have not been to Abilene in years man last time I was up there went to the Eisenhower library. From Topeka you guys be safe out there and ty for the video!
You are brave enough to let your self hear those sirens but heed the warning seriously if they are sounding because of a tornado threat sincerely Shannon
They were/are rare sirens due to poor advertisement by Federal Signal Corp, thus leading to only a smaller amount being ordered and made. The SHTT in it's name stands for "Single Horn Two Tone"
Bro I just found out that they switched them to alert earlier last year and slowly your gonna hate Kansas because they are taking down the older generation sirens slowly and replace them with the newer Generations
Easily one of the coolest sirens Federal ever made.
Agreed

God Abilene has such an epic system
All the Active Sirens In Boone County is 2001s, 1 Eclipse-8, and an STH-10.
All The Sirens in My Area are 2001s.
@@ACAAllertor125 i have no siren :( but also VERY dangorus to not have sirens
Yeah. Sacramento relies on EAS Alarms. That is a Dumb Move.
Sounds good! I love these sirens!
This is the other one! Finally a video of this beast
Man I can tell you what this is my lucky day when I saw that 500 cuz it's not very many left

I know right I just started liking this hobby of videoing loves and believe it or not it goes off every Tuesday and Abilene Kansas
Sounds like a 2t22 Tornado Siren
I agree 100%
I'm hoping I can catch an alerter here soon
I wonder how this older 500 Siren would do against a modern 508 Siren today the 508-128 soundwise
beautiful recording!!!
Thank you
Could i use the audio from this for a game I'm making?
Vibrations occur in the video cause it's so loud📢
Is the SHTT a rare variant of the 500? How many of the SHTT were made? And what does SHTT stand for?
They were/are rare sirens due to poor advertisement by Federal Signal Corp, thus leading to only a smaller amount being ordered and made. The SHTT in it's name stands for "Single Horn Two Tone"
No thare not rare if you want a rare one look for the double-headed two-tone 500 and it only sets off one time of year
The only place I know there's 500 is Abilene Kansas
Awesome! When did they switch the 500s to alert? Or did they only switch this one?
Bro I just found out that they switched them to alert earlier last year and slowly your gonna hate Kansas because they are taking down the older generation sirens slowly and replace them with the newer Generations
This year old siren federal signal 500shtt google found it replaced sentry:(
???Question Mark???
Wait, so Abilene has more than one of those 500 SHTT's?
They've got 2, used to have 3
Sounds like a smaller version of a thunderbolt
I know right
Sounds like a 2t22
what is this and why did you post it? Can you tell us more about this siren video?
It’s a federal signal 500SHTT and because why the fuck not, it’s a rare siren as well
@@BRISTOLFORCE2009 oh cool. We don't have them in UK...
