That NEW stadium is going to Brookpark, Haslem will get terms/aid that he’s ok with (mainly from the state). He’s making the Cuyahoga County Democrats look like idiots (which they are). They’ll go down in history as the regime that lost the Browns to the burbs….hope they pay the price at election time (especially Mayor “Urkel”). 🤣
Hate hearing that they’ll lose the team again bc literally the land touches the municipality of Cleveland lol they’re just mad bc it’s billions of dollars leaving the city of Cleveland. But it’s a bad investment for the city to keep it lakefront. On the other hand it’s a great investment for Brookpark and the Haslams to move… of the options presented Brookpark is far superior.
Dome/BP no brainer. Putting $1 billion into a stadium that at best makes it 15 years complete waste of money. Develop lake front into something awesome. (Burke airport not an option because it’s built on in fill/not real land and FAA airport closure process can take up to a decade)
I respect everyone’s opinion so folks who say because of tradition I just ask, what has that won us? Sometimes it’s better for find progression then staying in the same spot. It’s so many flaws with the current stadium I beg anyone too read into it. BUT BUT BUT I am not with using our tax money. Jimmy definitely needs to fork up some more cash.
I agree, the cold weather hasn’t won us anything… but the issue with not using any tax dollars is that the city owns everything. So if they’re going to hold the team hostage the city needs to fork up a reasonable offer to make it worth it to the Haslams to keep it downtown. The Haslams would be losing billions by not moving. Edit: to clarify I’m not saying I want them to use tax dollars either but the reality is that the location sucks so if the city wants to benefit from the team being in Cleveland then they need to help out or let the Haslams do what’s best for the team, northern Ohio, and the Haslams themselves.
I am generally pro stadium development, but these luxury stadiums are just getting insane. LA can offset the cost of a $2.2b stadium because they attract world events and it hosts two NFL teams. SOFI is booked close to 100 dates a year. They also have a large corporate base they can sell suites to, which are a HUGE portion of total ticket revenue. Cleveland spending the same thing on a stadium that will have less than 30 total dates a year booked and a fraction of the corporate money is insane. It will never going to recoup the taxpayer money that will go into it
All this means is that the county isn't going to fork up money for the stadium meaning Jimmy is going to have to fork up some of his own money....and he has the money to do it.
So they want to spend over a billion dollars to renovate a stadium that gets used less than 20 times a year? Where's the money in that?!?! MAKE IT MAKES SENSE!!!
@Depresssed Ginger so news5 Cleveland did a report yesterday interviewing the mayor of Brook Park and he stated that the Cleveland Browns Stadium decession is not a Priority right now their priority right now is to restore power to those who are affected and clean up after the Storms that went through on Tuesday. Also as a side Note. Brook Park will be a better option then the cleveland browns stadium. The reason i say that is if the lease expires in 2028. They could finalize it, Purchase the Land and start the the piping, water, etc then once completed Start the construction. Before Map out with wooden stakes to show what what to help get a better idea driving by car and what it will look like by Air. By 2025 you can start the building process and be ready for 2028/2029 football season
Not surprised, only the delusional fans, thought the Browns would leave downtown for the suburbs. I always knew just like with the Chicago Bears as well that these two teams are going to stay put downtown and have to figure it out. What the Browns need to do is develop the area around the stadium and make it more of an attraction to come on non-gamedays. The city and state need to give that lakefront area around a $5-7 billion deal for development around the stadium. The biggest question for the Browns is do they need a dome just yet? I was thinking the same thing with the Bears, if both teams can't figure it out then stay outdoors a little longer. Jumping to the suburbs in non-car cities is never the answer.
Not from Cleveland but outside looking in, i dont think they need a new stadium. Worrying about building shops and restaurants are not important to this sports fan.
