Your overall description of Steelseries is so on point hahaha. Not sure why I keep thinking this but it almost has "Elgato" vibes to it. Either way it looks pretty sweet, better than I'd expect from them (not a diss, just overlooked on my part).
Having the Apex 5 for over a year, All I can say is WOW! This is a real tremendous keyboard. The small screen on keyboard is really useful for benchmarking or checking your temps, stats in games, displaying your music and much more. Nick saying that this keyboard is a work of art is the TRUTH. Really good building materials, my only complaint is the keys itself, not the most extravagant keys on the planet but that can be solved by getting custom ones or ordering the Steelseries keys on Amazon. A tiny bit pricey for just keys but it's kinda worth it! When it comes to accidentally spilling liquid on the keyboard, I've accidentally spilled both Water AND coffee on it, and after a good cleanup, the RGB's and the keys work just like they did out of the box. And no, there is no visual damage from the liquids either. I 100% recommend this keyboard!
love how on point this is, I have one and use it daily for already around 2 years, already gave him some rage slaps and it still looks and works just as new, it's really an beautiful and fun work of art
For anyone worried about the Apex 5's really loud switches, I would upgrade to the 7 and get either Brown or Red switches. It is 50$ USD more than the Apex 5, but, the options are worth it. Daily driving the 7 now with red switches and I love it.
The Apex 5 doesn't have loud switches at all. However, I own both the apex 5 and the apex 3, and disappointingly, the apex 3 switches feel much nicer than the apex 5. The apex 5's keys feel very mushy compared to the apex 3.
Just bought one of these today after seeing your review, using it right now - no lie, I prefer this over my old Blackwidow Chroma which was a $220CAD full-mech keyboard from Razer. DAYUM. These keys are fucking scrumptious - sounds, feels and even LOOKS (when you pop the keys off) like a mech - doesn't even remotely feel like a membrane keyboard AT ALL. No squish, no wobble, clicky as fuck and registers a click after about 1/4 key press at the exact time the click happens - this feels indistinguishable from a mech as far as I am concerned. Holy hell.
I picked this up to switch from my razer cynosa chroma. I never liked razer in the first place but i was an improvement over my old Logitech at the time so i grabbed it. This keyboard is heaven.

I just got this! Very happy with it so far. One of my keys on the Razer Huntsman Elite randomly stopped working (even tried cleaning it and everything)... right after my warranty ended. While I do like the clicking sound/ feel of my old keyboard more, the price is better than my last keyboard and it has all the features I want+ more. So, it's worth it. I absolutely agree with the wrist rest, it's hard, yet soft at the same time which is weird. My last keyboard had a plush wrist rest that started to wear down, so I guess I don't have to worry about that. But, if I were to nitpick I'd still prefer a softer wrist rest. It will take a little bit of adjusting from my old keyboard, but so far so good. I'm in love with the colour design and like the oled screen.

This is my first GAMING keyboard and I love it since I can change the colour of the key and the oled screen doesn't really add much to it for me(mainly use it for the gif) and it's not really loud comparing to razer green
@@Immission I like how the keys feel they are smooth. Also i like the oled display and the button you can use to skip/play/pause etc.. music. Also the colors are pretty cool i had only one color on my last keyboard so its different and i like it. The keys you cant really hear them if you are listen music or playing but i think when you use microphone it might catch some sound and when you dont listen to anything and take your headset off its pretty loud compared to old keyboard razer deathstalker 2014. I guess all mechanical keyboards are kinda loud.
i'm waiting for my apex 5 and to be honest i couldn't be happier with my choice considering the price has dropped to $140 AUD it is definitely a bang for your buck keyboard. thank you for doing this review, i can't wait for my keyboard and start using it myself.

I've received mine today. Hadn't had the time to play around with it yet. A friend of mine has the HyperX Alloy Origins and he finds the illumination of the keycaps is not bright enough compared to his. I can confirm that the RGB lighting isn't as bright as his but I don't see that as a big deal.
I know it is over a year later, but I just got the Apex 5. Unlike the Razer, I noticed that it won't allow for the lights on the keyboard to go off when my monitors go black. Computer is still on, but they keyboard still stays lit. Is there a way I can get the board to go black when my monitors go black, if that makes a sense. Like a sleep feature of sorts.
im geting one for my birthday this year.. i wanted to watch some videos about it.. i currently run a steelseries apex 3 with membrain switches.. i regret it because i love clicky sounds lol. the apex 3 doesnt have all the fancy rgb.. so im swapping to the 5 because i just got a new pc with all the fancy rgb.. and i want it to match pretty well tbh. cant wait to try it out my self!
i am so glad i found this video, i’ve been looking for a new keyboard and was about to make the “‘mistake” of getting the ornata v2. the apex 5 just looks amazing, especially compared to my dad’s old pc gamer’s saitek keyboard thats probably as old as i am (which i am currently using)

You're that one person who listens to their music too loudly even though almost everyone tells you to turn it down. You also love loud keyboards because it helps you annoy other people just a little bit more on top of the already too loud music.
I bought it last month. One of tue switches broke sooooo easily. I talked to amazon they agreed to send me a new one for free. But the thing is that I’m a bit worried it happens again.
The Razer huntsmen is better I'd buy that over this as the huntsmen has way faster optical switches and PBT keycaps which are better than these ABS keycaps.
I have the latest Razer Blackwidow with similar features to this and I must say that the included wrist wrest is heaven to use compared to those hard rubber/plastic pads. Unfortunately the keyboard has a number of issues. The cable routing is spaceous but doesn't hook enough to the cable unlike with this kb though the cable is sleeved. The keycaps strangely don't have the symbols illuminated. And the biggest issue is that they still use ABS keycaps when PBT isn't any more expensive. I have dry fingers (so my skin oil is kind of hyper reactive) and PBT don't even last more than 2 weeks before they shine. Note after going through thorough cleaning each cap every week I just stopped bothering as it never ended. I don't eat finger food on the PC and always wipe my hands too. Kinda sad they skimp on PBT caps. 😧
I really liked the keyboard review and you covered all the necessary points; with that said I just don't get why you would leave out a sound test for this keyboard. I was really looking forward to seeing it. But overall, thanks for the review. I'm looking forward to your other reviews with keyboard switch sound tests included in them!
I picked up this keyboard today. I have it plugged into my docking station and after about 10 min or so it stops working. The RGB lights are still lit up but when I go to type nothing happened. It’s the weirdest thing. So I unplug it and then plug it back in and works for a little. Has this happened to anyone else/ is there a solution or did I just get a bad one? I also wouldn’t think it plugged into the dock would be any issue. If someone could help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you know if your Custom settings (Illumination, Macros, etc..) are saved when unplugged from a PC and plugged into a Console?

TRIPLE TAP for previous track is annoying as hell. Two small previous and next buttons are a must.
That cable should at least be braided. Most of their competitors sell keyboard's with detachable cable AND braided cable.

Unfortunately it’s only the blue. If you want a red or brown switch go for the apex 7 with genuine cherry mx switches.

is the input delay noticable bc the apex 7 has like 6 ms and this apparently has 20 ms. idk if it makes a difference
