    That's a lovely song, I like it a lot....In memory of the more than 1,000,000 Irish who died during the dreaded Famines in the country, 1846-1848.....And the other more than 2,000,000 Irish who left the country for America and other parts of the world during this same sad time....

    It’s so tragic and incredibly heartbreaking, and I wish we as a race could say we’ve learned from it, but I can’t. There are ripple effects from The Irish Potato Famine for hundreds of years. Such a beautiful song about a tragic and preventable situation. This song is one of those that makes and breaks your heart all at once.

    Was awaken to the beautiful sound vocals with the cello on the Victoria episode. I’ve never experienced this inner soul of collective comfort. Astonishing..’’

    That such beauty can come from such misery is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

    O, Father dear, I oft times here, you speak of Erin's Isle
    Her lofty scenes, her valleys green, her mountains rude and wild
    They say it tis a lovely (pretty) place, wherin in a prince might dwell
    So why did you abandon it, the reason to me tell?
    And you were only two years old, and feeble was your frame
    I could not leave you with your friends, you bore your father's name
    I wrapped you in my cota mior, in the dead of night unseen
    I heaved a sigh, and said goodbye, to dear old Skibbereen

    Please somebody tell me where I can find a proper recording of this. I know Sinead O’Connor did one but the melody of this particular cover just keep sticking with me.

    Conveniently leaves out the anti-English lyrics

    • @Under_Your_Bed_
      @Under_Your_Bed_ 8 місяців тому

      Because the Irish and English collectively agreed that there was nothing the English could've done to save them from that, they did all they could. So those lyrics have been officially omitted from any recent covers and from the official song as a symbol that no hard feelings remain
