The champions passed in those quite 30 years were incredible, Rjikaard, Gullit, Van Basten, Baresi, Maldini, Ancelotti, Donadoni, Desailly, Boban, Savicevic, Weah, Papin, Nesta, Kaká, Schevcenko, Inzaghi, Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva, Pirlo, Seedorf, Rui Costa and many others. The reason of his lack of goals you mentioned in midseason was that he played as an attacking midfielder behind striker Johnny Bosman at that time. He later claimed back his role as striker because... well he was the best.
Marco van Basten was my all time favorite. I will never forget 1988 EC finals. Years later I met him near the beach, already retired. Weirdest moment in my life and as vivid as today. He's in the top of my list of heroes.
"First touch and ball control 8/10". No way. His technique was out of this world. He could do so much with a ball in a small space. His bicycle kicks and scoring ability with both legs (and head) are the result of his technical talent

Him, Bergkamp and Gullit( who also had a mega season at Sampdoria in 93/94) leading the Dutch attack, it could have been mighty. Cruyff may have been a bit less picky about taking over the national team with van Basten still available also, as his ego no doubt would have liked winning the World Cup.
Nice video once again! What a player...one of the best I've seen! it's such a shame that injuries cut his career short, when he was essentially still in his prime. Such a complete and prolific striker; he had it all: speed, shooting, skill, power, heading, two-footedness, passing, intelligence, hold-up play, movement, elegance...and he won so much in his short career with Milan, Ajax, and even the Euros with the Netherlands with an assist and an incredible goal in the final. It's a shame that he didn't get to play at the 1994 World Cup, as maybe with him (fully fit, that is), they could have done better and he could've gotten some World Cup goals, which would have added to his legacy, and might have led him to be ranked more highly among the all-time greats.

In the spring of 1993, at the age of 28, van basten tried to come back in 3 matches, but his ankle couldn't holp up any more and he played his last minutes in the lost Champions league final agianst marseille.
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT It is no problem if not every thing is correct. Most important take away is that van basten was an exceptional player. The Dutch wikipedia page of van basten has all statistics right nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marco_van_Basten#Doelpunten_en_statistieken
Retirement before 30 wasn’t uncommon back then. You need to take that into account just how far the professional game has come on and it’s ability to improve players longevity.
It wasn’t his great performances in Ajax that earned him his spot in AC Milan it was the fact he got injured for a whole season I think it was that made him affordable for Milan. I remember Rudy Gullit having a transfer fee that was like 10 times bigger than van basten because van basten had 2 screws in his ankle. That Dutch trio in Milan happened because of Ajax’s incompetence and honestly it was Johann cruyff fault for playing him with a messed up ankle.
The entirety of Holland so wished for van Basten to return with Bergkamp, Kluivert etc. The injury took a while to nationally digest. To compare him to R9 (Nazario de Lima) is a bit apples-to-papayas because there's a generational difference. Soccer took a leap in pace. And yes if you have seen R9 in real life (I did) you know he is the BOAT. Van Basten did have the height (1.88m) for headers and overhead kicks. But in his era, he was as big of a star as Zidane, R9, Maldini, no doubt. And in Holland, he remains perhaps the biggest icon after Cruyff.
A Generational difference? When Ronaldo passed from Barcellona to Inter Milan, Van Basten was 31 y.o and he would still playing at the top of his carreer without the ankle injury and the retirement. Van Basten was way better than Ronaldo, because he was not only a striker but an assist-man with a number 10 feet and vision of the pitch. In fact, in FIFA's official ranking is the 9th gratest of all time, and Ronaldo 13th.
@@LightMovies Both Ronaldo and Van Basten careers were hampered by serious injuries. Neither of them could fulfill their true potential. If not for the injuries both of them would have challenged the likes of Pele, Maradona, Messi and Cruyff in the GOAT debate.

The next season Van Basten came back strong and became for the 2nd time topscorer of the Italian league with 25 goals in 31 matches. Milan became champion. The following season Van Basten improved himself again scoring 12 goals in the first 8 league games, including 4 goals against Napoli. The same month Van Basten scored 4 goals against Gothenborg in the fist edition ot the Champions league, including a bicycle-kick. Van Basten was considered the best player of the world at that time. But than his ankle gave up. At the end of 1992 van basten won his 3th ballon D'Or and the 2nd edition of the FIFA world player of the year. In the spring of 1993, at the age of 28, van basten tried to come back in 3 matches, but his ankle couldn't holp up any more and he played his last minutes in the lost Champions league final agianst marseille.
I double check my sources a few times so idk, if something was wrong I don't really see a way I could avoid that, any suggestions?
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT It is no problem if not every thing is correct. Most important take away is that van basten was an exceptional player. The Dutch wikipedia page of van basten has all statistics right nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marco_van_Basten#Doelpunten_en_statistieken
was ik maar 15 jaar ouder dan. mijn eerste shirtje heb ik nog steeds stond van basten op.
Retirement before 30 wasn’t uncommon back then. You need to take that into account just how far the professional game has come on and it’s ability to improve players longevity.
He stopped playing at 28
It wasn’t his great performances in Ajax that earned him his spot in AC Milan it was the fact he got injured for a whole season I think it was that made him affordable for Milan.
For sure one of the BOATs! Best of all time!!
how GOOD was Van Basten?
Ronaldo7 can score another 1000 goals and will still not impresses me as watching MVB playing, he was such joy to watch
An incredible player.
P.s. Have you done one on Weah?
The greatest all round centre forward to have played the game. Took Tony Adams years to get over 1988 in the Euro's.
First touch and ball control: 11/10 simply perfect
Icon factor: 11/10 people still talk as "the new Van Basten" when new striker talent starts
He was simply the best and still is if you compare him with Messi or Ronaldo. Marco van Basten ti ameremo per sempre!
Sad that he went out at his peak. Would've been 29 in USA94'.
Longevity should've been at least a 6. He was at the middle part of his career.
Im proud he is born in Utrecht and lead the nation to the first cup in history 💪
Marco van Basten is in my book a complete striker.and a all-time great.he could score from any angle.injuries cost him and the soccer world .
Top 15 player of all time IMO
yeah probably
I know it is pointless for asking these, but what is the background song? 😅but good vid bruv
respect for the good video
thanks man, dont forget to sub for more videos, i post one every week
good work mucker...
at leat 9/10 for first touch/ball control
He didn’t injured his ankle while in Milan
His ankle was destroyed when he played for Ajax ( and was in constant pain) so he just decided to do surgery again to clear it. But never recovered
Get your facts right please
Wait, I don't get the difference?
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT you Make it sound like he got injured while playing for Milan !!!
He came to Milan already injured and he only played 3 full games that season then he went to win euro
Marco van basten legenda hidup pesepakbola belanda & ac.milan
And to think that since 1986 he'd never been able to play without pain because of that ankle. He would have been even better
Hero!
Waiting for the Dennis Bergkamp video
He left on top

Best striker ever
Mano, já fizeste algum video sobre o Karl Heinz Rummeniege?
A great striker
u missed his winner in the uefa-cup final with ajax
From another planet “ il cigno di Uthrecht
6:50 11:25 why are there sound of people arguing in the background
Best nr 9 in history.
Defenders destroyed Van Basten. A bloody shame.
the luck factor was not on his side
Not according to him. He said that doctors and wrong surgeries ruined his ankle, not defenders.
the worst part is he got his first ankle injured tackling someone.
Am planning to start out a UA-cam channel like this thats why am asking
Imagine if he played at least for 2 or 3 years more
Football history would be very different
Lewandowski of his generation!
Do a video on Patrick Kluivert
The Dutch R9
Bruh!
Mondrian as a football player.
Because theyre both dutch?
I watched him score 3 times in a Eurocup final, true story.
How good was Van Basten? just about one of the best players I've ever seen in my 48 years..... and I've seen quite a few, I can tell you. I've seen GREAT strikers but he was in another league to most of those. He almost scored goals for fun, it was effortless....
Bro is your channel monetized ........because the video clips you is copied from somewhere else which can cause copyright infringement
I have the same question honeslty, you cnt monitize before 4000 hours and 1000 subs so I don't know if I'll be eligible yet
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT Aight.......because I made a similar video like this and it was taken down. For copyright infringement
Really frustrating cos I spent close to 8 hours making it
Nice background track, Id?
Not really sure tbh I use a few different ones and I dont have my laptop here rn, but I think it's called wish I'd stayed
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT thx, found it! Btw nice work man, keep it up!
Playing through injuries, Taking bad medical advice. His ankles were pretty much shot by his early 20’s so he continues to play through injuries and take more terrible advice from surgeons therefore he’s nearly crippled by 30.
diadora legend.
ballon dor at that time used to represent the best european player, not the best player in the world
