My partner and I have a couple, I've just removed the paint from hers as it was chipped, now it's good as new.
The lids work well but I'm annoyed that Contigo don't sell replacement lids, had them since December 2019 and they are still good as new (now I've removed the paint)
Come on Contigo get with the program, save the planet and sell replacement parts!!!!
Other contigo bottles using that style lid have a hing mechanism so the mechanism swings out for cleaning.

I have one, the only way I can get it perfectly clean is to unscrew the lid, take it apart and use a water-pic to get into all the nooks and crannies. The high pressure of the water pushes any gunk out into the sink. I then submerge all the bits in boiling water and a steriliser tablet.
I do like the bottle, the cleaning is awful though. I’m trying to leave a comment like this on all review videos, because i was horrified the first time I took the lid apart.
Yes I just bleached it last night and noticed inside the drinking part there was mold inside the seal part between the seal and the lid uggh my son's water bottle for school but it does say only put water in it not milk or tea. I can't imagine what's between the parts inside. So he is not taking it to school until I find a bottle that just has a plain lid on it not parts in it.

I was about to buy it but many mentioned that the lid is not easy to clean. it is big no. will stick to camelbak chute
If lid cleanliness is important to you, then I think that's the right call!
Germ cap but there is black mold in button mechanism and air vent.
Oof I hadn't even though about all those nooks and crannies that can't get cleaned in a bottle like this! that's why a i love caps that you can fully take apart and clean.

Does it narrow toward the top or are the sides straight?
great q - it's slightly cinched about 3/4 of the way up the bottle, but then widens back out. so not exactly tapered, though it does get skinnier at one point.
