    SO GLAD YOU GAVE WARNING FOR FLASHING LIGHTS!!! Thank you on behalf of everybody that has epilepsy or has eye issues triggered by flashing lights (I get migraines, if one starts, the flashing is like a flaming ice pick in my temple)

      the flashing lights easily could have just been omitted, especially with you showing it to us spinning oval under illumination more then the actual finished project.

      @@mariavlachou4650 Believe it or not, there are multiple medical reasons to avoid flashing or strobing lights.
      (Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to word it so it wouldn't sound sarcastic. I believed the exact same thing before I learned more about it in my nursing career.)

      Yea, I appreciated that as well. Videos with flashing lights and stuff like that tend to give me migraines. Since I was expecting it I was able to quickly close my eyes once it started

      @@bipolarbear9952 Your comment sounds all the more informative. Now that you mention it, one of such reasons a someone should stay away from flashing lights and/or images is if he or she may be or is an epileptic; and those two events can literally seizures.

    If you did this again you could do regular pencils on one side and colored pencils on the other. Or darks on one side and brights on the other.

    I know I am late to the party, but
    1. this is awesome
    2. I liked t when there was the sphere in the middle with the two bases on either end. That would have made a super cool look.
    3. Options for inclusions: use two round natural wood bases with bark on either end. Use raw wood pieces to make it look like spikes inside. Finally put spiky crystals inside. Keep them from the edges to make a stalactite or stalagmite look.

    I really like this one Nick! There are quite a few spheres on UA-cam, but this one is especially your style... It came out great too! I think I could stare into that for hours...

    Surely rather than super-glueing all the pencils at different heights you could have just used pencils of various lenghts? Nice job though

      Could have. But it would have taken more adjustments (via cutting and fitting) on most (if not all) the pencils. Supergluing only the ones he wanted took less time/effort.

    That turned out really well. Having done a few experiments with coloured pencils myself, I found it much easier to seal the leads before doing anything else. I just dipped both ends in some clear metal lacquer in the end, but superglue could work even better. Then the pigment won't seep out as you're working on it & there's less chance of things chipping. Low viscosity superglue will also seep into the lead itself & give it a bit more strength & stability.

    The way done of the pencil led colours bleed into the resin is pretty cool. Perhaps you could base a project on that effect!

      It seems like it's only certain colors that did that too. Or at least some were more obvious. I'm guessing if you wanted to avoid that you could pre-seal the tips with something before they get submerged in resin?

      Depending on the type of resin used, a thin coat of super glue would likely do the trick.

    Nick could you get a string of those copper wire fairy lights and embed them in a sphere with a wood section that has a plug that fits into hole in a base where the wires come out to connect to a battery set. That's the only way I could think to turn it and keep the wires safe. It would look like a sphere but you wouldn't see the wires that connect to the battery. It would only be found out if someone picked it up.

    I think it looked great... Just retireing at 66 and really getting into resin and turning, Knuckles spheres are inspirational as this one.. spheres are where I want to go..alonf with lots of other projects.. probably left it a bit late in life but I intend to be around for many years yet so who knows, really enjoyed the video m8 and will have to look at more of your work.

      Yea i thought it was funny at first, but I could see what he meant. not like it looks like a realistic 3D rendering but that it seemed like it was 'popping out' of the background more like an 80's 3D movie

    Can you explain what the pressure chamber does? Sorry if this has already been addressed. I'm guessing it prevents air bubbles maybe or does it speed up curing some how? Thanks!

      No, it makes the bubbles compressed and tiny when/while the resin sets and also traps the gas with lots of force.
      Vacuum is a much better idea. It doesn't create the same potential for cracking.

      It forces all the air out of the resin. A bubble can make a week spot that can ruin a project

    I would like to suggest doing a similar one with crayons... just take the paper off first and you should end with a really colorful one,

    Nick, if I send you my dried acrylic fordite (layers and layers and layers of dried paint from my acrylic pour paintings) is it possible for you to do a turn on the laithe with it? You might have to put it in the pressure chamber...but I would love to see you smooth it out with resin in a mold or something and turn it into something cool... I'm not using it, and it is super colorful!
    Nice work on the pencil planet, cant wait to see what crazy stuff you do next!

      I thought it was low pressure, so the air moves from the high pressure in the resin to the low outside?
      The vidzs I have seen, the guy removed the air from the resin before pouring, so solving the size problem.

    What effect does the pressure chamber have on the resin? Can this be completed without the pressure?

      Are you using pressure or vacuum? When molding silicone, we normally use vacuum for degassing.

    I am starting to get into wood turning and resin work, but I am curious...what does the pressure pot do? Does it prevent bubbles from forming in the resin?

      Yeah it does because it is basically a vacuum chamber which pulls the bubbles to the top

      He’s actually compressing the bubbles to minimize them, in lieu of degassing with vacuum.

    The process before you cut off the ends,makes me think of the 4 poster beds. Can you imagine what it would look like if the poles/banister ( not sure if that's correct term ) would look like if you made them like this? Me thinks it would be cool,groovy,simply awesome!
