Regarding the Outer Heaven Logo. To the people saying that the symbol facing the left doesn't imply evil, I would ask you why they no longer use it in future games? The connotations of a military power using a Swastika. In 1987, Outer Heaven were just pure evil bad guys, and they illustrated that by invoking the Nazi party. The symbol's origins are irrelevant compared to it's use since World War 2. The intent was clear, adding it to a scary looking skull was purposeful, and IRONY also exists. Ask yourself why they used it. And why they don't anymore.
My headcanon for the Outer Heaven logo is that it's a deepfake the Patriots made to discredit Big Boss. Apparently until mgs4, Big Boss was treated as a total villain but the Patriots realized making him a "hero" would help the war economy with more enlistees.
I actually disagree. You have to remember this was a game made for a Japanese audience first and foremost. In Japan it is still a sign of prosperity and good luck and still in many places. You even had it appearing on Pokemon cards in the early 2000s in Japan. Just somewhat recently (2016) were trying to change it (To a Pagoda) because of tourists but the symbol is still plastered over many Buddhist temples and it didn't pass. "Even though the modifications were intended only for non-Japanese-language maps, domestic response was quite negative; as one scholar said, “We have been using it for thousands of years [sic] before it was incorporated into the Not See flag, so I believe it would be better for us to keep it on our maps and ask others to understand its true meaning.” It disappeared because the games started becoming popular in the West.
@@Gatorade69 I think context is key here though. It's not a swastika on a temple in the game. It's a swastika on the logo of the bad military organization. Thus I think it's pretty obvious what was the intended message by using it in their logo, and it wasn't prosperity and good luck..
Even on the primitive MSX hardware, you can see Kojima’s filmic sensibilities and stylistic flair shining through. Only thing that changed was the technology that allowed him to fully embrace it
You missed a golden opportunity by showing Volgin grabbing Naked Snake by the balls when talking about how Kojima's Metal Gear series grabbed US by the balls.
I'm loving these new style of videos clement is making! While part of me will miss the old let's play videos (pretty sure clement is what got me to play mega man), I'm excited to see what the future brings with this new style!
Can´t wait to see more MG and MGS videos, especially MGS; liked it a lot for beeng litterally an "interactive movie". Fighting Psycho Mantis when you had to switch your controller from slot one to slot two , the use of the vibration feature for example when Dr. Naomi Hunter gave you a shot after beeing tortured by the best enemycharacter - Revolver Ocelot - mindblowing back in the good old days!
It is very surprising that the series went from a pretty light story but some cool ideas in play to OMG the story is compelling......but WTF is the cutscenes so damn long lol. That proves the dedication that Hideo Kojima had and still does to this day. That said Die Hardman.........yeah Big Boss rolls off the tongue more and yes the cardboard box is a friend to everyone......except in Survive when it may be the cause of us being in another dimension because the box is a dick lol. Regardless, a soild Humble beginnings video on the first METAL GEAR there Clement!
5:50 Fun Fact: The Swastica actually means various things to different heritages. And in Japan and Buddhism, it's not only written opposite to the Nazi Swastica, like in the Outer Heaven logo, it also symbolizes peace!
The swastika is used as a geometrical motif and as a religious symbol in Eastern and Dharmic religions and possesses many meanings, often relating to peace (the original Sanskrit svastika literally means "to be good").
To you reading this, Jesus can help with whatever problems and hardships you have. Believe in him and what he has done on the cross for your salvation. You can not save yourself he came to save us. Turn from your sins repent which is the act of changing your life to follow the way of God and not your way, your way will lead you into a pit to hell I know it, my way had lead me in to a pit going straight hell, but Jesus rescued me and he can rescue you. He can grant peace and joy unfelt, and be your closest friend always there, here's the gospel Jesus Christ, son of God, sacrificed his life for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day. After he went to his tweleve disciples and many others before ascending into heaven eternally triumphant over all his enemies and making it so that there is now no condemnation for sin to all those who believe in him, but only everlasting joy. John 3:16

@@Gatorade69 Agreed I concour with that I've seen authentic images of the temples so I can corroborate that claim.

Bruh you everywhere. Lol
Didn't know you watched Clement too.

Fantastic video! Not a lot of people have played or know of the original Metal Gear, so I'm glad you made this Humble Beginnings episode.
The flamethrower guy became the inspiration for the Fury in Snake Eater.

Mega Man is what got me to watch "The Great Clement", since 2009 so almost the entire time thus far of ClementJ64.
HOW DOES THIS VIDEO DOESN'T EVEN HAVE 20K VIEWS???? THIS CHANNEL IS CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED
The enemy uniform remark may have been referenced in MGS3, where The Boss took off Snake's Raikov disguise calling it a "fairy disguise"
To this day, the NES building music is the music that plays in my mind when I'm doing something all sneaky like, lol.
Guards with terrible peripheral vision and they say Genome Soldiers began that trend.
These introspective-type videos are the absolute best! Thank you Clement, always take care of yourself.
Snake Eater is still in my top 3 games of all time.
It's always a good day when Clement posts.
9:54 No doubt alot of people have this as their text message alert.
Please, talk about the second one!!! Please!!!
This video was a lot of fun. It was well-crafted and had great editing. Well done.

Awesome video clement ❤
We will see how a starting developer deciding to make a stealth game because of hardware limitations turned into the most insane best thing ever
Always a treat to hear you talk about things you enjoy.
Another very good video. Nice job.
Love this new direction of the channel!!

Waiting for the insane lore of mortal Kombat!!
Oh yes! Clement at it again. Love to see it.
Great video! Hope to see your next videos about the other Metal Gear games!!
Man wouldn't it be awesome to get a remake of metal gear and metal gear 2 solid snake someday? It would be pretty awesome if that ever happens.
Never happening unfortunately.
A great video from the great Clement! But man, needing 16 C4 for the Metal Gear, when the game can just softlock you out of it... that's just cruel 😂.
Amazing video great clement
7:53 Old school video game commercials really are something else lmao.
And the Suikoden 1 and 2 collection.
Great video!
Great video
Awesome video man keep up the great work
Oooo metal gear. Curious to see if you’ll be doing the whole series
Was really happy about this!! Really excited for the eventual binary domain and Yakuza 3 videos.
I’ve not seen as thorough a run through of the originals as this. The original is interesting after playing solid 5
Hideo Kojima the Steven Spielberg of video games.
A remake of metal gear solid 3 that controls like 5 is the dream
So you got a PSG1.... you can use that against sniper wolf.
thanks for another awesome vid. Please cover God Hand, No more Heroes, or Shin megami Tensei 1 and 2.
Hideo Kojima wanted to make movies, but got into games and well He just wing it 🤣
5:53 “Hans, are we the baddies?”
Slay
Mgs2 is my favorite in the franchise
34:42 is that the eggman logo?

The "Big Boss" that Solid Snake fought isn't the real Big Boss, but instead his body double, Venom Snake
Yeah, he jokes about that in the video
Why is there EggMan/Robotnic logo in the corner of the screen at the start of MetalGear2SolidSnake?!
clement added that lol
@@Omar_E11 you mean he added it by editing the video like this...? 😅 I thought it was a strange MetalGear-thing...
@@kaloriommati6933 Nah thats Sega copyright. Back when that game was released the logo didnt even exist
Dude can you make a video talking about the lore of street fighter?
Well you got your wish
@@Gatorade69 Yeah and the video was really good 😊
@@zaidi3000 It was. Actually how I found the channel.
Clement GEAR?!
If anyone wants to play a more modern version of these MSX Metal Gear games, try out Unmetal. It’s a great parody
People were eating good in the ps2 era
30:34 🤣🤣🤣
You’re saying you might go back to LPs again?
Best franchise under Konami's umbrella.
It's competing with a card game.
Oh no youtube thats cool, dont TELL me when someone Ive subscribed to for almost a decade uploads 🙄
Some Dirty Duck this was...
Sounds like he was giving bad body armor advice in purpose ;D And trying to hide power of boxes(in retrospect)
You should review xenoblade series.
18:34-18:38
Cardboard boxes
Damn shame what konami did to Hideo Kojima

This is definitely, Lockstin! 🧠
What one?
So... many... ads...

MGS V, not 5. There is no metal gear solid 5
Peace walker is 5.
Although it is nice to finally find someone else who makes the distinction between 5 and the V series.
