Ran into an old pal in Birmingham tonight and he was kind enough to invite me to jam with him on an old blues number. Cheers Slash! ;-)
Thanks also to Myles, Frank, Todd, Brent, Pete and the entire crew for making me feel so welcome. I had a great night and you all nailed it! There were definitely 10,000 happy people at Birmingham NIA tonight... well, make that 10,000 and one!
Came here for Chris. Dig Slash too. But Chris is a monster
Today he is. Back then he was very good, but unfortunately he forgot the most important thing : To spare a little volume when he knew, he was up agains a high output Gibson. Well, the soundman could have helped a bit, but Chris (that i really like a lot) had a wimpy sound and his brillant playing didnt come out. He's much more experienced now, and I would like to listen to a rematch.....so to speak
…. BTW, Why do so many numb-skull know-nothings always regard collaborations like this as a competition?
Neither Chris nor Slash would see it that way - and were clearly both loving it !
Stop trying to work out “who won” FFS ……. We ALL won by hearing two greats play together, and both absolutely killing it!
Thanks for the opportunity to hear this!
Just because you can shred doesn’t mean you should all the time. The tone and soul and timing by Chris is superb
All of the best guitarists CAN shred, but the GREAT ones mostly choose not to.
Kossoff, Green, Ronson, Clapton, Knopfler, Taylor, Moore, Bonamassa ……. It was never about the speed they played at, but the texture and tone and feel - and sheer emotion.
And these two gents are the same - so happy to have heard them perform together on a few brief occasions. Both true greats!
@@mikegray8776 David Gilmour couldn’t shred. He is arguably one of the greatest
Buck is a more schooled guitarist with a better feel. Slash is just an ego driven show off, and if you listen to his blues shredding, it repeats the same couple of penatonic riffs over and over....and over to sound fast. I'm gonna get thrashed for this (but I have been a player since 1974, so I know a thing or two), but so much blues lead playing can be broken down into a few simple cliche riffs played very quickly up and down the neck. It sounds impressive because it's fast as they're all strung together. For Americans, guys like Eddie and Randy did much more inventive stuff...
Chris is making Slash playing even better. Both are Monsters. One is a legend, the other will be.
Chris is the modern day Slash. I love both. Rock on my compadres.
One of the greatest guitarists of a generation…and Slash 😊
Fantastic! I was there to watch this and record it for posterity. In fact this is my video recording so very proud its gone on to showcase Chris and his awesome talent!!!
thanks!!!
i was up the front at this gig. pretty sure i can see my arms in the air.
Great!
This is the first time I heard slash's voice
Chris' tone is just perfect for the way he is playing.
To tell the truth, I honestly thought that Chris was going to absolutely body Slash.... But I really forgot how good of a guitarist Slash is. I actually started off as a huge fan of Slash when I first started playing guitar, and over the years I sort of brushed him off to the side when I started to watch more skilled players (Vai, Satriani, Govan, etc.). But this video proves to me that Slash deserves all the credit that's given to him. GREAT blues playing by both of them!
Slash is mega...but so is Chris.
@@larrybethune3909 There is a reason Slash is better, he understands how to place himself in the band, not to over complicate! Too many redundant solos that are over stretched is why those guys never were part of a great band!
More technical doesn't equal better. Slash is veeeery good. Vai, Satriani, Govan are virtuosos but their solos aren't nearly as memorable as Slash's
Bruh. I was thinking the exact same thing. What a great player it was nice to revisit.
Slash is a little sloppy like Jimmy Page is. But that slop is where all the good stuff happens. Totally love Chris as well - he's right there in the middle between technical and sloppy. Love his playing. Crisp, but with loads of feels.
I wish both of these greats would do more Blues! I'm talking to you Chris.
Don’t see how it can get better than that. Just recently discovered Chris Buck. An awesome guitarist.
I came 2nd to you in 2005 young contemporary musician of the year! I even remember you snapping a string before the final performance!
You still play? Itd be so interesting to see an upcoming contemporary player :)
@@glennlilley8608 I think the other few would've been 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc.
Wow bro u must b really really good because this guy is really really good😆😂🤣👍
Hmm. Chris is bringing out the best in Slash. He had to up his game...
Brilliant solo, Chris - and really cool of Slash to invite a (then) barely known local guy to take centre-stage during his own gig in Brum.
[Respect to Myles too for his own genuine reaction!]
It is quite common to invite an established “name” to guest on stage for a song or two - but it is ultra-rare to see an up-and-coming musician given a break like this.
Thanks Slash, for a really memorable cameo. 👏🏼👏🏼
Both of you guys are fucking genius! It is like the time of Page and Beck turned back.
What a dream come true. Playing with your Hero. A few years down it will be a new kid then blown away the same way about Chris. Let’s continue to inspire!
Who's the dude in the hat and leather trousers that keeps playing over Chris?
The guy giving him the op.
@@joebryant8500 So you didn't hear Chris play? OK
It was a jam. They traded solos.Sometimes jams end up with two players playing lead simultaneously. Really not that difficult to see. And hear.
@@xmandlt really?!
@@joebryant8500 I think for the chance to share a stage with a guitar great and one of your idols, I don't think Chris would have minded if his guitar wasnt even plugged in! You can hear both by the way, but maybe slash was a bit concerned of looking like Clapton when he let Hendrix jam on stage with cream!
this is so f'n boss man, almost sounds like a tribute to Jimmy Page, just sooo tasteful
Never understood how players like Slash can play their guitars slung so low.
cuz its cool
@@wilfredreedman5683 the question was “how” not “why” 😅
Wingspan can probably play a factor in it. Some people have wingspans that exceed their height which would in theory make it easier to play the guitar when slung super low.
if you ever see him walking down the street ,his hands reach is calves ..super long arm slash.
Both guys are awesome, Chris has some real soul in his playing and slash … well he’s a guitar god isn’t he!
Slash is awesome when it comes to rock and blues rock, but when it comes to the blues I would go for Chris Buck everytime. Two legends on that stage that night.
From listening to Guns 'N Roses, who the Hell knew Slash had these kind of chops as well as feeling? I sure didn't . . . very impressed. And this kid Chris Buck is going to be big!!!
Slash was playing Jimi Page solo pretty much note to note from Led Zeppelin's since i've been loving you
Who didn’t know? His playing on Appetite is some of the best guitar in music history.
@@dahliafiend idiots shit on slash because it's the hip thing to do. He is really great.
That vibrato at 2:54 is divine.
I knew Chris could do almost anything on the guitar, but had no idea that Slash could play the blues LIKE THAT!!!
Great job Chris dude. And, hey...Slash was one true gentleman. Cool.
I know what to expect from Chris Buck. He has a uniquely great solo voice. Slash is a damn good guitar player. I love those blues lighting runs. They really sound great.
The guy with the best tone and sweetness dripping from his guitar is Chris, Buick Magic on display.
Chris mate, I've been playing Blues for over 30 yrs, and with all due respect to Slash's amazing guitar playing skills, when it comes to Blues he don't even come close to ya !
P.S. love your channel.
That--was--INCREDIBLE!!
Man, this had to be an incredible experience. Great stuff
Wow !!!!!! I just saw this nearly 11 years after it was done, Slash is unreal & Chris even way back then matched him, not that it was a match. Just fantastic !!!!!!.
This has a lot of “Tea for One’” by Led Zeppelin in it. Great jam.
Yes
Was thinking Since I've Been Loving You, but yeah, definitely 👍
Slash is far more influenced by Jimmy Page than realized. They both play those fast sloppy bursts mixed with melodic runs.
@@kevinmcguinness1113 You’re right.
Wow, way to keep Slash on his toes Chris! You were both kicking but! 🎸
definitely in the likeness of Since I've Been Loving You
That was fantastic, wow!
Awesome collaboration, really nice jam. Congratulations and greetings from Spain.
Thats slash i love ..great playin guys!
Awesome man!! 👍
Well deserved! This is antology.!
2:51 Best moment. That was perfect 👌 he is good
These two guys are getting after it! Great players bring out great performances in eachother! I wish they wouldve given Miles a go! Hes a great player too! Awesome video
Woah love this...
Wow...beaufitul!
I had no idea Slash was short... or that Chris was so tall.
Slash is 5ft10
@Angel. Slash height is 5ft 9 or 175.3 cm tall - if that's important ;o)
That must have been a blast! IMO, Chris said more with fewer notes.
No pressure at all just jamming Infront of your home crowd with Slash and Myles
He's actually from South Wales
great moment
How good of Chris to let that up n coming guitar player Stash to com up n play wi him. Especially in his home town of Birmingham! What a guy! Chris Buck❤Don't give a F@€£ x
Whatis about stickinga aolian scalein blues that make it so bad ass to listen too...Love the blend betweenthe two of them sounds so well especally with a gibson and Strat at the same time. This is just mint!
fantastic
OMFG!!! i have thought, "Chris Buck is one of the best guitarist I ever seen but to be on stage with SLASH. JUS PROVES MY POINT
Wow, just ...WOW!!!
OK so I worked as stage crew on this gig, a job I've done in all its forms for many years, not anymore. For me and many others furlough ends on the 30th of October and universal credit is our only comfort.
I sold my soul to rock n roll and loved it and it loved me back through thick and thin.
It's been mine and countless others lifestyle and I'm proud to have known so many beautiful and talented people.I've been so blessed, I'll be eternally grateful but fear I'll be forever sad because I feel it's gone now and won't come back.
When all this Covid nonsense ends, people are going to be desperate to get out to gigs, the theatre, festivals, live events.... hang on in there and stay safe. It WILL come back to you 👍
I was there , I attended at Edinburgh Manchester and Birmingham
What a gig! :o)
Class....x
Class
Dear Casper ...As a fellow guitar player, I'm amazed at your mastery and finesse...I think that piece was played by the great Tommy E. - is there a tutorial that would avoid me a long job of deciphering ???...and, mainly, who's the genius who composed that moving and snappy piece ???
Amazing performance Chris and I also had never heard Slash play with so much feel.
Blues? Scales! Someone loves that 5th.
I heard of you in Alan Nivens interview, he said Slash was impresses with you! BEST to you.
@@shumailkhan7205 Doesn't exist. Hot air!
Double WOW Sublime 🤟✌
I'm just saying, Slash wasn't in the 10 guitarists improvisation challenge.
Elaborate more on this please if u have the chance? What’s the improv challenge?
@@user-zd8vg1nl5g look for a video called 10 guitarists improvised over the same track. By Paul Davids.
....Chris's choice of guitar was a perfect choice...A perfect dynamic to Slash's AFD.........
Chris Buck went to my high school go on buddy! and he's not from Birmingham I'm afraid he's from WALES! CWMCARN!!!
Slash is from Hamstead.... But I know what you mean though! A lot of americans think UK is England and it makes me, as a Welshman, sad!
To be fair to Slash, I think Chris's girlfriend was living in Birmingham at the time, but Chris is definitely Welshman!!
same same, no?
i was at the show that night and man you were fucking awesome
1:38 Shine on you Crazy Diamond
Exactly!!
3:14 since ive been loving you
That's is so AWESOME you got to play with Slash! Cool as hell you got it on video too! How'd you get that opportunity?
So Slash wears that hat to try to hide the fact that he’s a hobbit?
Get rid of the hat..it becomes too much of your identity if your never seen without it.
Buck💐❤️💯
Great to Hear Ya Let Your Hair Down...Rock OM Cheers AAA
Impressed*
Respect
I agree with you...if I invite a guest up to my stage I don't try to upstage him or certainly not cut him off...if we get into some Allman Bros twinning that is cool but I don't get Slash hammering all over a guest who is invited - now a troll that needs a lesson in etiquette I don't mind taking down but that would be slash-it in Birmingham 9,10.12 ~ great demeanor & super performance Chris! Peace
Ha ha. You got to play with Slash. Lucky cnt.
Nice one.
That shakey bend at 2:55 is ill!
“Chris Chris, come over here give me a hug” - Slash hahahahah
Slash, a proud Welshman
Wow 👍🏻
Slash is amazing. But Chris can play the blues 🤘😎
I had no idea you played with Slash. I would have rubble in my pants :D Great play anyway!
Wow Chris! The best playing since Gary Moore!!
I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself not even the same solar system lol. Honestly I thought Slash out played him but to each his own I guess..
If you've ever heard Chris Buck play in a gig situation, you'll know he was playing well within himself.... it's all about feel.
I'm not saying the guy can't play.. But to compare him to Gary Moore is ridiculous...Moore was able to play more genre's including metal, jazz, fusion, rock, and blues and was way more technical. Also Gary Moore played with more feeling than just about anyone... I respect your point though.
@@justinmuldoon768 Chris is like early 20s here man. Gary could pretty much only shred hard rock at that age, compare a 40 year career with someone who been playing for like 10 and with only one band.
By the way Gary Moore solo to this song wasn't that much better than Chris 'to many roads' John mayall
Yeaahhh
Slash: hold my beer
Chris: you hold mine...
wow..i was starting to dribble haha
I see many comments about Chris beeing more soul inspired than Slash. Maybe we don't have the same feeling, i found Slash amazing on that play and above Chris. It is the same matter of appreciation for me about Clapton, i never understood why so many people said he was a top player.
Its almost as if music is subjective
Remember when you were young....class but I thought Chris was from Wales? And this is Birmingham, although I suppose to someone from America Wales and Birmingham are basically the same neighborhood!
Haha. Slash is from Stoke so he knows Britain fairly well I imagine 😆 I was living in Birmingham at the time so I think that's what he was referencing. Or trying to endear me to the local crowd!
@@ChrisBuckGuitar that explains it. I did know he had links to stoke on trent - that blows my mind in itself - gnr and l.a and leather trousers and the hair just seem like a million miles away from stoke! Like the Friday fretworks videos btw, it's funny because although I play guitar to a fashion, I'm not really interested in amps, valves, guitars etc to the point you are, yet I find the videos entertaining. Its the same with Paul davids videos. So thanks.
Slash all the way better sound and feeling !!!!
Wow, I Don’t think Slash was expectingCHRIS to be so Strong 💪 of a guitar 🎸 Player….While Slash was hitting every note on the Scales as Runs,, Chris was soulfully banging out Some Great Solos!!!!! Tastefully….Nuff said, except Chris Won by a Knockout…..
Anybody know what song they were playing. "Somebody Loan Me A Dime".
Let's just say I'm glad Chris keeps his hair in a bun these days 😅
😂😂
Dies that audience understand what they are experiencing?
It’s like MJ and Kobe, and I’m KD
slash I've been loving you?
One more time Gm Blues jam, I love live performances but you should do studio version or live but put it on some album or Ep in official form...
Vaya turra, amigo
Did chis have much playing time? Mostly I just heard top hat playing more ,louder and over everyone else .
Slash is fucking this up
I think its their take on "Since I've been loving" you by Led Zeppelin
