Hearing the sound of the awkward revving and crunching gear changing on board this bus is the sort of sound I’ve not heard since my early childhood. It is so nostalgic just like an old forgotten song. I love it.
You’re not wrong. I saw an AEC Regent III pull up in 1960s footage and it was filthy with scrapes and dents everywhere. Only when new or just after overhaul they looked this good.
I travelled on these double deckers many times between Wynyard and Manly going to the beach. They were great although a bit slow specially when going uphill!

They sound the same as the old British buses use to sound
Wonderful! Very tuneful gearbox on the old girl!
Beautiful, they look better than I ever saw them when they were in service, well done everyone involved.

Used to love working at Leichhardt Bus depot Walking around the old Workshops
Leyland sounded nice. I was surprised to learn the preselects were in the minority and most were synchro manual.
7:43 an ex sta bus in the top right I believe!
A great job. Recognized my local area thee towards the end getting on the M4 back to Parramatta, I think? What was the problem with the Atlanteans?
Goverment wanted one man bus union did not
Also the union didn’t approve of the staircase position. I think they wanted it just behind the driver.
