When I was in Elementary School I had an aid, because of my physical disability made it hard for me to get around without help, but I was in I think the second grade and she made one for herself ( but a little different than this one). She showed hers to me, and I begged her to make me one. It lasted several years, and I was heartbroken when it we had to throw it way, but now thanks to you guys I know how to make one, and can do it myself! Thanks!

These things are old school! A lot of my grandmother's friends made these when I was a child. I have always loved them.

We used to buy these from a co worker. You don’t have to paint the cups at all, just leave them clear - being clear makes them like a lens that magnifies each light a little..
Secondly, use blinking multi color Christmas lights, and it is much more spectacular than non blinking lights.

These are very cool. I don't celebrate Hannukah, but the blue one is so pretty, it almost looks like thereis blue garland tucked behind the cups, but it is just the reflectionof the lights on the clear balls. I think red lights and clear cups would be pretty for valentines day.

I LOVE THESE LIGHTS!!! Can't wait to try them out! I'm so excited I don't have to hunt a special stapler. Also, loved the step by step-frame by frame- process on how to do this. Rebecca's first video was great too :)

I'VE BEEN MAKING AND SELLING THESE LIGHTS FOR OVER 16 YEARS AND I HAVE A SUGGESTION FOR YOU >> INSTEAD OF USING 50 LIGHTS >> USE 100 AND THEN PUT THE EXTRA 50 IN THE CENTER OF THE BALL BECAUSE THEN IT DOESN'T LOOK HOLLOW ON THE INSIDE AND BELIEVE ME THE LIGHTS ARE SO MUCH BRIGHTER AND MORE BEAUTIFUL :)

Thanks for the great tutorial. Today is April 13, 2020 and I made three sparkle balls for #LightForLife. They’re hang in a tree in my front yard and not only do they look wonderful, (in pink, lavender & lime green), but they’ve withstood a storm with high winds and lots of rain too! One thing I did differently was to use a plier stapler that uses heavier staples than a desktop stapler. Also, the handles made stapling the cups together very easy to do. The sparkle balls, along with other decorations, are bringing a bit of joy to my neighbors who are living through a life changing experience right now. Thank you again. I couldn’t have done it without your well detailed directions.

I start with a circle of 12 as well...then 9...then 4...25 for each half...50 for the total...i don't use staples at all...they rarely hold and if dropped break apart easily...I use a pencil type soldering iron and melt the cups together...I also use the soldering iron to insert the LED lights as well...no drill needed...a 100 light combination string allows me to put 2 lights per cup...looks amazing...and the welds hold together for years!

I would love to see you create a clear one with clear twinkle lights to see what sort of reflection and effect it has blinking and twinkling off and on against the clear plastic cups.
I think they could have a big impact hanging outside from a large, front entry or porte cochere (you'd want the scale to be right). Perhaps hanging staggered, in a group of three, dripping with lots of greenery in the center (to hide the extension cords and to feel extra lush) and add a grand, wired bow at the top with the tails, like tendrils, hanging down amid the sparkle balls and greenery. So many possibilities...

EEN63 I love your ideas. I think a twinkling sparkle ball would look fab and the ideas you suggested for hanging and concealing the cords are spot on. Please do it and post a photo on our Facebook! :-)

This would be awesome any time of year depending on what color lights and cups you use. I think they would be beautiful hung outside for a New Year's Eve party or something, and if it's too cold you'd want them leading into your home I suppose and then have some in the main room you use for the party. The party could be any time of year as well. LOL

…okay, I admit I listened to this on mute because, for me, Christmas music is ONLY for Christmas eve and Christmas day. Anyway, I went back and saw that I need AT LEAST 48 SOLO CUPS - for anyone else who might have muted too.
