I used to date a lady from Chongqing. In the small talk period in our relationship she told me Chongqing is called "The Frog City." I had not been there so I looked on a map and a big river flows through there so I assumed frogs like water and forgot about it. On a trip to Chongqing later, I learned Chongqing is called the "Fog City." It was one of the least damaging misunderstandings I had in China.
Proud to have made it to Chongqing once via Hard Seat Train from Shanghai, it probably took 38 hours. It was worth it. Beautiful City! Lots of pretty people too.
Lol😁, it's somewhat an overstatement though. Chongqing as whole is a municipality with plenty of suburban/rural sides, the city area itself is smaller actually but still pretty big nonetheless. About twice the size of Luxembourg hehe :-)

My hometown is a small town between Chongqing and Chengdu. When I was a child, my father took me to Chongqing to take a boat trip to the Three Gorges. At that time, Chongqing gave me the same feeling of poverty and chaos as other places except Chongqing. A few years ago, I graduated from college and went to Chongqing with my classmates. It is completely different from when I went there as a child. The light rail in the sky makes me feel in the future. City planning is also particularly cyberpunk. It really is the feeling of the future!

Am planning to move to China. Research on which part to move to and your video help a lot. I think Chongqing would be nice as a base. Was planning to rent first before, familiarize myself before buying a property. I had a apartment in Vancouver Canada, lands in Texas Austin, Horseshoe bay, and properties in other part of the world, but I chose to live in China because that is where the future lies. Even Jim Rogers agreed that China is the Future to be and his two girls can speak prefect Chinese. Well Smart People Thinks alike and for those China haters just stay where you are, China dont need you.

I used to think that Chongqing look like industrial city, like it is "grey" and ugly, and the city only focused on developing industry. Then one day, I watched a youtube video about an interview with the young officials of Chongqing, and learned that the gov over there actually focus so much on making the life comfortable and convenient for the people.

Well, you are not exactly wrong about it being industrial. CQ used to primarily focus on heavy industry, including weapons manufacturing (it was the provisional war time capital of WW2 afterall). It's only really in the last 10 years or so they've started to move a lot of the manufacturing outside of the city centre to the outskirts.

Because western media tends to cover up every positive aspect of China. Chongqing was not a tier one Chinese city so it receives even less attention. (To be honest, western media doesn't even want to talk about how advanced tier one cities like Shanghai and Shenzhen are.)
I do think Chinese peoples love their country from their hearts otherwise they can not make their country so beautiful and technologically so advanced.
When you find that a country or region has a high support rate and sense of identity for the local government, you should think that this is actually true and cannot be the result of brainwashing dictatorship because human nature does not allow it
Funny thing is the big mall at the start with gucci is my parents mall that they opened around 10ish years ago and i havent been back in chongqing since january cuz of covid.
Aesthetically unique city and definitely worth a visit but I couldn't see myself living there due to the climate. Barely any sun, high humidity, hot and humid summers. Chengdu has a similar issue (for me, sure some people prefer that). My guess is like all of China's rapidly growing cities, it's mostly people from the surrounding areas moving to cities as China has been encouraging urbanization for a few decades. China has such a massive population, so they have so many mega cities, pretty crazy.

Living cost in tier one cities like Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen are some of the highest in the world. In the recent years, a dozen of smaller cities (believe me, Chongqing is far smaller than Shanghai) with more affordable living cost and attractive features became new popular cities for young people. Chongqing is one of them due to it's food culture and unique landscaping. There is also the city of Changsha for it's endless night market and pedestrian district, and Xiaman, for it's beautiful beach, blue coastline and pretty island "gu lang yu".

I've lived in China for four years and Beijing, Chongqing, Hangzhou... these were the most interesting places in my opinion

Some northern east cities might suit your imagination , old factories , undeveloped . young people are running away from it .

Why is it not so popular
Because western media tends to cover up every positive aspect of China. Chongqing was not a tier one Chinese city so it receives even less attention. (To be honest, western media doesn't even want to talk about how advanced tier one cities like Shanghai and Shenzhen are.)

I do think Chinese peoples love their country from their hearts otherwise they can not make their country so beautiful and technologically so advanced.
When you find that a country or region has a high support rate and sense of identity for the local government, you should think that this is actually true and cannot be the result of brainwashing dictatorship because human nature does not allow it
Funny thing is the big mall at the start with gucci is my parents mall that they opened around 10ish years ago and i havent been back in chongqing since january cuz of covid.

Aesthetically unique city and definitely worth a visit but I couldn't see myself living there due to the climate. Barely any sun, high humidity, hot and humid summers. Chengdu has a similar issue (for me, sure some people prefer that). My guess is like all of China's rapidly growing cities, it's mostly people from the surrounding areas moving to cities as China has been encouraging urbanization for a few decades. China has such a massive population, so they have so many mega cities, pretty crazy.

Living cost in tier one cities like Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen are some of the highest in the world. In the recent years, a dozen of smaller cities (believe me, Chongqing is far smaller than Shanghai) with more affordable living cost and attractive features became new popular cities for young people. Chongqing is one of them due to it's food culture and unique landscaping. There is also the city of Changsha for it's endless night market and pedestrian district, and Xiaman, for it's beautiful beach, blue coastline and pretty island "gu lang yu".
