Burley Sew--You are just the BEST teacher! I am new to Brothers, Bernina broke for the first time in its 20 year life right here in the middle of my Christmas sewing!-- but I bought this Brother for my 11 and 9 year old nieces this summer, and although they have NO sewing experience, they are able to follow your instructions very easily and so am I! Nice great machine but man with 5 granddaughters and living 90 miles away from the city, I AM SORELY MISSING THE RUFFLER AND GATHERER FOOTS! Thank you for the work with really clear videography. You are doing lots of us a huge favor, and I'm so very grateful. I have all your videos re. this machine in a ""my favorites" list. You do a great job and you're a great teacher!
I still want to throw the brother machine out the window. I only use it on rare occasion to embroidery. I have a Husqvarna for regular sewing. I fight with this brother machine every time I try to thread it. 9 easy steps, my big toe!!! I always have to get out the instruction book & watch Burley Sew over and over and over . . .
Thanks for your effort & time. ‘Gege to 12’ & a bit of time required since touching my machine caused a need for a refresher. And this solved my problem. HappySewing!
Thanks so much for your easy to follow videos. It's been 38 years since I had my own sewing machine and now that the kids are all gone and on their own, I decided to get a new one and my have sewing machines changed. You make it look so easy. Best wishes to you.
TYVM for your help! It was soooo easy with your video and now on to threading and doing my 1st hem on some jammies for the hubby :) I was soooo excited about getting my Brother SE400 yesterday and intimidated at the same time and you helped me get over that! *hugs* Jaime
Great detailed video for someone like myself. I'm purchasing the brother se400 machine and watching all of your videos over and over on this machine. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this video. I have never owned a sewing machine and your video was done very well. Easy to see, I was also grateful for your review of the steps and your patience showing this. What a blessing this video has been to me.
thank you so much!!!!! I just got this machine and I don't know anything about machine embroidery yet so this is so helpful to me. You are clear and a very good teacher!
I'm thinking of getting this sewing machine. I've never had one so it's new to me. I've been looking at lots of videos of this model. You make this very simple and it's very clearly explained. Thank you so much.
I am also a burly man who is just getting into sewing as I am single now. I'm looking to purchase the Brother SE400 and am watching all the videos on it I can. I appreciate you keeping it all simple and encourage you to do more videos. My only critique is to make sure your right hand doesn't pass in front of the camera to block the view. On some of your videos it happens. Otherwise, excellent tutorials.
Thanks and Thanks for the tip. I am working on some new videos with better light and better camera angles. This is a great machine it does just about everything.
Thank you for the video! Sewing machines have always intimidated me and I'm taking the plunge...and watching all the videos I can! Good job and looking forward to watching others.
Ok thank you best ever explanation maybe I can practice sewing now that I know how to thread my machine thank you thank you! You don't know the frustration I've had after 2 classes and pulling my hair out yay! I can do it!
very thorough, and clear and slow video! Thank you, I subscribed to your UA-cam only because you were, as I stated above. I've got to get my new glasses and I was having trouble seeing how to thread so I searched it on you tube. Great Job!
Thankyou it looks so easy and I think I’m doing it right but for some reason I’m doing something wrong. Ive watched you about 6 times. I wont give up even if I have to watch you 20 times. Must be cause. I’m old. Lol lol. Thats my excuse. You couldn’t teach us any better. I think its hard for me to get my neck down there to see properly. Thank you. I might be back. Lol. Maureen
Hello! First thank you so much for the videos, they are very helpful. I am having problems with the threading. I have followed the steps over and over again and for some reason it will not take the thread. Do you have an idea of what I am doing wrong.
Thank you so much for doing these videos. I made my first frame and put initials in in using the resize and repositioning instructions you put in the other video.
thank you for making this video I'm interested in buying one of these machines and know nothing about sewing or anything so this will definitely help me!
Thanks so much for the video, I just received the brother se 400 as gift from hubby and am a visual learner, I appreciate you took the time to make all the videos with all the close ups and different explanations too, have a great day, how does one get other patterns for the embroidery to do some low cost
Hi Tim, thanks for all your videos. I just got the SE400 my ? is, the needles that came with it, are those for embroidery or machine sewing? It didn't say on them.
first of all thank you for Ur videos they r very helpful.if i have a large image can i transfer direct from pc or do i have to use an external storage device.thanks in advance
I super LOVE your videos. I have this machine, (the Brother SE400). I know how to thread the machine, but I can't. I have to thread it manually because the needle is too far over to the left hand side, above the throat plate. The needle itself is constantly rubbing against the throat plate, sometimes breaking off needles...It's a mess trying to sew like this! Is there any way I can 'set' the needle to the middle of this machine and 'save' the settings once and for all? Thank-you so much in advance.
Im curious if you can answer my question i have threaded everything as you demonstrated and done my bobbin as your video but i think my bobbin thread just doesn't work right it keeps coming on top of my bobbin any suggestions would be great. Thanks
Your videos are the best instructional ones out there, I find them clear and easy to follow. My only request would be, please dump the music! It is intrusive and competes with your voice. Otherwise, the video is perfection.
Thanks for making this video. It's clear and easy to follow. I do have an issue though, my automatic threader is not threading my needle. I did change the needle to a ball point needle, could this be why?
I have been trying for awhile to figure out how to adjust a stitch for a regular satin stitch or embroidery stitch without a hoop. Just for my own applique designs. I don't know if I can do that with this machine?
Thank you for all your videos . I just have a question when I want to start the machine is show that on screen (The safety device has been activated. Thank you again
Any thoughts on my metallic thread would keep leaving the needle? I have it in a cup behind the machine and I was working...now it constantly comes unthreaded!
Yes you thread the the machine the same way as you would to sew. Make sure you pull the thread through the hole of the embroidery foot. Check out some of my other videos, especially the one on how to thread the machine and maybe some of the ones in the embroidery playlist. What is or is not happening when you try to embroider?
Can anyone let me know when I'm using my brother for embroidery do I use the bobbin at all? i didn't see in the video of him talking about it. .just got my brother so setting it up and already advanced on just a normal sewing machine. thank you much appreciated
I'm curious as to know whether or not this machine is good for making iron-on patches. I'm relatively new to embroidery using machines but I am in the market for one that can embroider iron-on patches. Is threading the machine for sewing basically the same process as threading it for embroidery with just a different foot? And do you think this machine is good for making patches? Thank you for the video! :) Subscribed.
Like your video ( course I am a beginner , question , I am trying to use the sawing machine and it keeps telling me to change the speed controller mode to off ? Please help , I don't know what to do
videos r great. does any one else who is starting with this machine feel a little bit overwhelmed. As I have no problem when it comes t wifi systems or e-print apps; this machine set up for some reason Is really overwhelming. It's been a long time since I have sewed...does any one have any tips? Would greatly be appreciated
Hi, I just bought my new machine a few weeks ago. I'm using it for the first time because I've been sick., When I first started using it, I had no problem getting the thread to go through the needle on que. I recently changed the needle because it totally broke for no reason as I dropped my needle to begin sewing and since then it does not seem to line up and therefore will not thread for me. I have followed every instruction on doing it but still will not work. Any idea what may be the problem?
Do you have any videos that show how to create your own image using SewWhat Pro? Or at least just add stitching (not text or another image) just adding additional lines or something
Thank you for the post and nice words! Congratulations on the new machine! You can search for websites that offer free embroidery patterns. Some have free libraries, some have a free file of the day/week/month type setup. Most of them require registration. It seems that most of the good designs you have to pay for, especially ones that are licensed. You can also make your own for free. Check out some of my videos on SophieSew. It's free software that you can make your from scratch or by tracing.
I have a Brother Disney sewing and embroidery machine and can’t find a video on how to thread it! Can you please direct me to a video about this machine please
+Audrey Lennon There are tension wheels that a thread has to go through. The wheels are inside the channel between step 2 and 3, when the on/off switch is red, wheels are open; green, closed. To open the tension wheels while threading the machine is a correct procedure. Do not close the wheels while threading because you will lose your tension and cause bird nesting underneath the bobbin when sew. You thread keeps coming out from under the thread guide because the wheels are open. Check to see if the on/off switch is red. If so, the thread has no tension. One way to prevent the thread keeps coming out is to turn the switch to green by lowering the presser food level. Be mindful when the switch is green, the machine is alive. If you inadvertently touch the on/off switch, the machine will start sewing and might cause injury.
Ohhh my gosh!! I’ve had my machine for 3 years and I’ve been threading it incorrectly !! I have 4 machines so I haven’t used it that often but still I cannot believe I’ve actually been sewing like that duhhhj🤣😂🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️-that’s what I get for thinking I KNOW!
I have watched this video and I am doing everything you show, but my machine still won't thread, could it be my needle us in wrong, it acts like it want yo thread it but it doesn't, I need help!
I just purchased this and I thread it and the button with the arrow stays red and the screen won't change what am I doing wrong I can't get my machine to work. Please help me
Like a few others in the comments, I have completed all of the steps successfully except for step 9 (pulling the lever to actually THREAD the needle). I've accomplished this several times successfully but now it simply won't cooperate. I see the same question unanswered from years ago. Some1 please give me an alternate solution, my situation is time sensitive.
THANK YOU!!!!!!! I bought this sewing machine after not sewing for 20 years.... Any you've been AWESOME!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!
Just used this to thread my se600. Spent so much time trying to understand the threading but this video made it so simple. Thanks much.

Check to make sure your needle is inserted all the way. Also make sure the needle is in the up most position of it's stroke.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
