I think you can buy already scripted murder mystery dinners online or in a lot of toy shops. You don't have to write the plan or character list on your own

Yes, they can take on the role of any character - the host has to take care of printing all the game stationery and facilitating the "flow", so it's probably helpful to know who it is!
I was expecting a bit more movement than just chilling at the dinner table and calling an accusation of a murder. No clues, no objectives to be found around the space?
Hey, thanks for your comment! This is how my style of murder mystery experiences works. It's not really a "Cluedo" kind of game, it's more about improvisation and conversation. It's definitely a fun dinner-table party :)
Hi Amber, it's possible... It just isn't advisable... My murder mysteries are designed to be played around the dinner table so everyone can hear the conversations, which are full of clues! I find if people are too spread out it can ruin the game. Have you played a murder mystery before?
@@murdermysteryguide Nope but it sounds really fun especially since I love performing. I’m thinking to host a masquerade picnic for my 21st birthday and I’m trying to decide whether or not to include murder mystery into the list of activities, it sounds way more fun than truth or dare.

It depends on the plot, usually. If the characters are attending a reading of the will, they know there's been a murder. If they've been invited to a gala dinner or some other type of event, they should arrive *not* knowing that there will be / has been a murder.
the host can host as a character, but I've also facilitated / hosted games as an observer. (I usually just make up a name and a reason for why I'm attending the dinner, then drive the action that way)

I’m finding it hard to put together my murder mystery plot and the clues, because I know the mystery and who did it, it’s hard to tell if I’m doing a good job and if my murder mystery will be a mystery
You can only ever truly know if it will work by taking the leap and hosting your game! It's always a bit nerve-wracking, but it helps if you have someone you can talk it all through with to check for any blind spots.
That's a great question, Alex! I don't recommend murder mystery dinners for kids, due to the adult themes, but it depends on the individual child and the content of the game.
Some games only allow the murderer to find out they did towards the end, but as you get to allocate characters, make sure you don't allocate someone you can't trust to be the murderer!
