I'm organising a Murder Mystery party for my 9 year old daughter and her friends. This was just the inspiration I needed. Thank you so much! Greetings from London, England! :-)
Really good tutorial. I had written out about 45-50 pages of notes, story plots, motives and character profiles, but was having problems turning this mountain of info into a game. This tutorial is pure gold. Really helpful. With this and your other 6 tutorials in the series I was able to create a structure and finalise the evening. Thank you
Jonathan, thanks for your question. After the details of the homicide are revealed, the suspects give opening statements that indicate they are under suspicion by authorities. It then becomes apparent that investigators should focus their attention on these individuals and no one else. Happy sleuthing.
Thanks heaps for these videos. I ran a murder mystery having never played one before, and none of the guests had played one. And it went great. Couple hick ups, but pretty good overall. And then my brother ran one more recently, and he knocked it out of the park. He asked for a tutorial or reference and I sent him here
Hi this is great information! I'm Begining to write my first murder mystery party. I'm going to hire out a castle here in Ireland for it once covid has died down. I'm planning on giving my friends a night to remember! Can't wait to learn from you 😁🍀
Thank you for this video ! I’m writing a murder mystery for my Halloween party - the murder of the billionaire bachelor, set in the 60’s , with a smoke machine and poker table as accessories !
I'm not really sure if it was intended to be absurdist humor, but it had me crying with laughter a couple minutes in. Anyway, it's a great guide for mystery design in general, which is what I came here for. Thanks!
I was looking for a video exactly like this! Thank you so much it really helps a lot...I am writing a mystery dinner about the corona virus but there is no murder involved...it's about who destroyed the anitdot 😁
Thanks for this video. Might you have any tips for a Theft mystery for my wedding? I want to make it around the lines of stolen jewelry at the hotel we are getting ready at. Maybe 6 characters. The maid, bellboy, hairstylist, makeup artist, an aunt, the hotel manager. All who had access to the room and the advantage if a distracted bride. Any input helps. Thanks so much!
these videos are a great help, i am putting the finishing touches on a "1940s mafia speakeasy" murder mystery for a work function. i did mine kinda different every one is going to be given an envelope with their character and their motive and alibi in it. and every one has to interigate/question each other after the murder takes place as well as find hidden evidence i have placed around the area of the party. the way im doing it, the murderer wont even know they're the murderer unless they piece it together. i know the way im doing it isnt the usual, but do you have any tips none the less?
What about serial killers, Jack? I was watching a show called mindhunter which is about the FBI agents who first uncovered what a serial killer was and the big problem they had to tackle was motive. Mainly because serial killers dont have a motive so much as a pathological MO. Say you wanted to host a dinner party for friends you enjoy watching horror movies with, and you want to write a mystery around a serial killer. Does a motive need to exist still? If not, would that spike the difficulty way too high?
Timothy Scully If you were to use a psychopathic killer, you would need to give clues about the subject’s deteriorating mental health. Some medicine with his name, physician’s logs, etc. It also may be helpful to, even if there is not a valid motive, provide some cause for a vendetta against the first victim to get the ball rolling. Make the first victim someone the killer knew.
is it okay if we write about the murder's point of view like what they are thinking about as the investigators try to reveal him/her? I'm writing my murder mystery and i'm having a writer's block and i'm unsure if that's okay by the way i'm turning 13 in a few months
Ash, since you're writing a mystery novel, you can take a unique perspective to your story. A caution: make sure that your "self-talk" is consistent with research into the criminal mind. Some of your readers will be familiar with it and will challenge your plot unless it makes sense with what's known.
Thankyou very much this was helpful, I’m organising a party for only 4 people have you got any ideas of what character could be what for only 4 people?
Question, so at the beginning of the party do we reveal do we reveal who is a suspect and non suspect? Also if we do reveal it to the audience do we reveal each suspects motive?
+Mysteries on the Net I would love to attend your Mystery Boot Camp,,, how do I register. Please email me any info. at Gospelrose7811@gmail.com,,,,,, I love your UA-cam videos
Okay but I cannot for the life of me find any source on what exactly a Murder Mystery Dinner Party is. I can only find articles and videos on how to host a MMDP.

*thats not a good enough motive for murder*

I’m always pleased to assist with an investigation.

Crime fighting can be rigorous. A little levity is always a welcome relief. Enjoy the series.

im hosting a murder mystery for online school so students could have fun during their online meetings. thanks!
Outstanding! I’m now hosting online murder mystery parties. (www.playmurdermysteries.com) The world has changed and we have to adapt.
Fantastic, thank you!
Glad I could help.
This is helpful but you really do look like Sean Connery
I am writing a Witch Murder Mystery for a 10 year old birthday party for my daughter! Any suggestions!!!
Keep the plot simple and don't overdue the red herrings for younger people. Build in plenty of interaction.
Hello, anyone could explain a little bit more about the means and opportunity? I got the motives down, I think. Do non-suspects need a motive?

I’m trying to make a murder mystery game where the host play to but idk how to do that. Do you know how to do that?
skip to 3:43 to miss his red herring rant
How do you ensure that the smoking gun clue does not get discovered/revealed until the right moment?
Thanks for your question. Since I’m the one who drops that clue, I can determine the timing. Regards, Jack
Planning a murder mystery dinner

He looks great but that white triangle of stomach distracts me.
