    Lived here with my (then) young family in the military 2004-2007. No regrets. Plan to go back with everyone now that they're grown for a family trip one day...

    I just happened to encounter this video. I was born in Yokosuka and lived until I was almost 30. I moved to U.S. in 1986 and haven't been back to Japan since. I used to work at Naval Base, and other place in downtown Yokosuka. It's my home town. But after over 30 years, there are so many change/developments and it almost look like different town! I miss Japan, and my bucket list is to go back to Japan and live for at least an entire year before I die!

      Yes, I'd take my wife whom I didn't meet until 1986. She has heard stories and I have even cooked her Yakisoba one of my favorite meals while stationed there.

    In the '80s, I was stationed onboard the USS MIDWAY, homeported at Yokosuka.
    When you mentioned Shiori and Yokosuka-Chuo stations I lite-up remembering that and other places.
    Taking 1 hour+ from Tokyo meant that you took the Yokosuka Line, which goes west to go north (to Tokyo). The Kehin Kyoku (KHK) line is faster because it goes along the coast line north.
    I both STILL read and speak SOME Japanese (mostly from college though I got a lot of practice while in Japan for nearly 3 years), and damn-well miss that place!!!!!!!!!!!!

    How is the weather throughout the year? Is it easy to get around with Bus and Train, leaving the car at home?

    • @scotsmaninjapan
      @scotsmaninjapan  2 роки тому

      Hey Laura, all in all its good here. The summers are very hot, so I hug my aircon a lot and it's a bit chilly in winter, but Spring and Autumn are great! Winters as I said are cold, but mostly dry which I found unusual compared to Scotland, but then it rains all year around there.
      Transport is great here, especially if you live in a city, though rush hour can get crowded on the trains. Buses are easy to use, especially if you use a smart phone app like Google maps.
      I hope this helps!

    And how it was for you to live in YOKOSUKA? Big city? Expensive? How much money can you earn there?

    • @scotsmaninjapan
      @scotsmaninjapan  2 роки тому +1

      I enjoyed living in Yokosuka, its not a massive city, but big enough and easy to get to places like Yokohama and kamakura. Japan isn't cheap, but Yokosuka is cheaper than Tokyo. As regards to money, it all depends upon what you do and if you can speak Japanese. Most people who come to Japan to work become teachers, which isnt great, but you can still live in Japan on a teachers wage, but perhaps saving could be difficult.

    I was born in Yokosuka 55 years ago. My father was in the Navy. I am doing a project regarding Yokosuka. Is there anything else I should let Americans know about this quaint city? It appears to be very clean. I am a new nurse. Is there a hospital nearby? What about schools? I didn't notice any homeless people on the streets, very much unlike NYC or Lancaster, PA where I am from.

    • @scotsmaninjapan
      @scotsmaninjapan  4 роки тому

      Robin Adams it’s a great place to live. Plenty of schools and a couple of hospitals. I don’t speak much Japanese but never really had much trouble. A lot of people speak a bit of English( though they say they don’t) There is also an American dentist here. I don’t use it because I have different insurance. There are parks, the shopping is responsible and the public transport is excellent. Just over an hour for Tokyo and Kamakura is about 20 mins by train. I Love Kamakura, it’s a beautiful place.
