I was on the trail May 23-25 2024 and south of Hill City there was water in the rest stop cisterns. Avenza is good. I use GAIA pro app for public land. There is limited public land between Pringle and Edgemont. I ride a Surly Bridge Club with 27. 5 with 2.4 tires. Pretty cush. I used a shuttle from Edgemont to Deadwood then rode south back to Edgemont. Pretty party pace at two and half days.
Very under rated channel . .. . love every video
I appreciate the guidance especially in regards to knowing where you are in relation to private and public. On X and BaseMap also have good maps showing where you are and the land type and can be downloaded for offline use. To keep people friendly and not cause use problems for all it is prudent we respect private property rights. There are already areas being closed to use from land owners becoming tired of the disrespect from visitors. You know, dropping a dubber and all on their land. Nice job, thanks!
At last, specific and logistical information. Most appreciated.
👍👍
Wow, ton of information. The water situation in may, I had never heard this so very useful, we are planning to ride next May.
Thank you for these vids on Mickelson!
Great video. I bicycle camped the trail last year and saw my first mountain lion near Rochford. I found that camping was not an issue, I just started to look for a flatter area about an hour before dark. I was careful about leaving no trace but not about land ownership.
Sure hope you're concerned about private land.....
Given the head and crosswinds you encountered going South on the prairie, do you think it would be advantageous to take on a bit more climbing to get out of the wind? Go South to North?
It may have been the time of year I was there, but I don't know the trail well-enough to say for certain.
Hi. I am confused. Are 28mm ok? You mention 28mm or wider in audio but the graphic says 32mm or wider.
28mm are going to be ok in my opinion, but it ultimately is down to rider comfort and skill, and the load on the bike. If you can go wider, it gives you a bit more stability and comfort. I must have missed on the graphic, but either are ok. Thanks for the question!
I watched another video where two riders did the entire trailer in one day. They started at Edgemont. There were two signs at the trail head. One stated a permit is required…. four dollars per day per person or $15 annual. The other trail requirements showed no camping on the sign. I don’t understand that since one of the maps that I found on the Internet showing services along the trail show a camping symbol. Can you help me out with both of these items? Thx
I assume tandem not a good idea for difficulty steering on gravel etc but did you see any?
It would certainly depend on your bike and your comfort level, but I didn't see any reason an experienced tandem crew couldn't ride this trail.
